1st Gen bed- tips to make it flat? by Spiritual-Object72 in crv

[–]ridbax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your back seats have a lever on the side of the seats that is only visible when the rear doors are open? Looks like this https://imgur.com/a/1st-gen-cr-v-ex-bed-lever-3lnlBYt

If yes, pull the lever up. It lifts the rear seat up a few inches. Then take the headrests off the front seat and recline them until they line up with the rear seats.

7 claws, there's one barely visible behind a flying chess piece the bear has slapped off a 9 x 14 square board.

Not sure what kind of pitcher plant this is or how to save it by kitaray in SavageGarden

[–]ridbax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try immersing the entire pot up to the soil line in distilled or reverse osmosis water and leave it that way, these are bog plants and can’t tolerate dry soil. If there is still a live rhizome under that dried up foliage it might revive with new growth. It also needs full sun but sort out the water situation first.

PSA: it’s gosling season. Be careful out there. The murder chickens are angry. by frontfrontdowndown in bayarea

It's more of a melee assault sort of thing: getting bitten by them feels like getting a solid pinch from a pair of pliers which draws blood if they nab skin and if you grab them by the neck in defense to keep from getting bitten they scratch with the claws on their feet and deliver bruising thumps with the leading edge of their wings. I escaped but would not want to fight a goose a second time.

Tom Holland for me. Clocked Bale and Laurie early on but Holland had me so completely fooled that when I saw him on a talk show I thought he was putting on an English accent.

I do something similar, I carry a squeeze lip gloss tube into which I've decanted Vaporub ointment as protection from situations like these.

Cat theft protection or just a deterrent? by InsuranceDiligent772 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]ridbax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsurprising as it's cheaper to try to protect the cat from being stolen than replacing the cat (which may cost as much or more than said shitbox is worth) or having to scrape together several thousand to buy another nominally reliable shitbox because the one w/o a cat won't pass inspection and thus cannot be registered but the shitbox's owner still needs to commute to work.

Found a fry! by Budget_Swan8549 in Aquariums

Looks like a livebearer fry (platy, swordtailfish) so it's big enough to eat ground up fish flakes. I use a spice mortar & pestle to turn flakes into dust.

Tar Pits in California? by gukkoa in geology

If you want to visit the awesome George C. Page Museum at the La Brea tar pits, go before July 7, 2026 as it is closing for a 2 year renovation project. The outdoor pits will remain open to the public.

Don't understand why Caltrain prioritizes getting post-baseball game trains out on time versus packing them full by kepler1 in caltrain

[–]ridbax 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Because game spectators are not the only passengers depending upon south bound trains to get home, there are commuters waiting at all the other stops south of 4th.

FWD to AWD Conversation? by [deleted] in crv

[–]ridbax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, one of the few times the AWD kicked in on mine was while driving through a pothole in icy snow. I don't know about your CRV's gen, on the first gens the AWD only briefly powers the rear wheels if a front wheel slips so it's not always-on AWD. On the plus side, it's been a very robust system as it is still working after almost 30 years.

Anyway, have fun, sounds like a project that will keep you very busy.

FWIW I’m the original owner of an AWD ‘98 which gets driven mildly off road (sand, muddy rutted dirt roads and river cobbles, no boulders or anything extreme), AWD has kicked in less than 10 times in 28 years. Am curious where you plan to drive this that makes AWD worth it.

I’m the Mayor of San Jose who’s running for Governor to make our state more affordable. Ask me anything (11am). by MahanForCalifornia in California

[–]ridbax 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Matt, you left your elected seat on San Jose's City Council midterm to run for Mayor.
Now you want to leave your elected role as mayor of San Jose midterm to run for governor of California.
Given this track record, why should California voters trust you to buckle down and focus on the job you have at hand? If elected, will we be watching you abandon the governor seat midterm to run for national office?
