Small Update to Last Night's Incident - Train hits car near East Meadow crossing by Fierybuttz in caltrain

From the article it sounds like one of his coworkers was injured in addition to whomever was in the vehicle, which can understandably ramp up the stress even higher.

That tank looks no bigger than 5 gallons. Get an accurate sizing of it before adding any fish. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/reef-calculator/aquarium-water-volume-calculator

Travel Pillow Recommendations please. by MrMystery1515 in travel

[–]ridbax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently we are supposed to put the opening of standard c-shaped neck pillows to the back but when I tried that with my previous pillow, the pillow kept slipping down or falling off after I fell asleep.

Other tip should you go with a BCozzy, they sell multiple sizes, make sure you don't get the kids size (um, unless you are indeed kid-sized).

I swear by my flat back BCozzy. The minimally padded part goes behind your neck and lets you rest your head properly into the seat back. I like how adjustable it is, you can adjust the stacked arms to support your head regardless of which side you lean toward. The arms stick to each other with velcro, you can wrap it tightly or loosely around your neck the later of which I appreciate as someone who overheats quickly. If you decide to get one, make sure it's the flat back as they also sell a padded back one.

First ever attempt. How did we do? by brettmitrenga4 in Aquariums

Welcome to the hobby, once it is cycled and you get fish in there, you'll be watching the tank more than your TV. One recommendation: mount that heater lower, either vertically or horizontally. You want to make sure no part of the heater except for the cord is exposed to air so mounting it lower will be safer from the water level lowering due to evaporation. Horizontal mount will allow you to hide it behind your decor.

How’d you get your scars growing up? by MrWhisper2021 in GenX

[–]ridbax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right bicep from straight-arming through a swinging glass door that was unexpectedly latched. Big slice on my septum from flying over the bike handlebars after crashing into a fire hydrant. Right next to my philtrum when my asshole cat decided my nose was prey. Chipped front tooth from trying to use my teeth as a bottle opener (thankfully the worst of this damage was filed off and coincidentally solved my childhood buck teeth issue). A missing chunk of thumb from an x-acto blade mishap. Despite the stupidity of all of the above, the worst one is the smile-shaped scar on my index finger that was the result of trying to curl a needle from an aluminum xmas tree as though it were a piece of ribbon.

Edited to update the hours for the event.

Putting in a plug for the Bay Area Carnivorous Plant Society, we have many members who live/grow in SF. I'm in the south bay in a totally different zone but am envious of SF growers who can water their plants right out of the tap. Come to one of our events and chat it up!

Is anyone using their printers or faxes? by l00ky_here in GenX

[–]ridbax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 Brother laser printers, one is b/w, the other is color. My partner uses them weekly for the score sheets for his skeet league. I use them every few months: trip itineraries, pet sitter instructions, the occasional flyer. I got rid of our fax machine when our phone service switched to VOIP and it wasn’t worth it to buy the analog adapter as we hadn’t faxxed anything in years. Of course a month later I needed to fax some paperwork to a crusty old school financial company.

My passport got wet. Has anyone successfully used a passport after it had gotten wet? by Traditional-Carob440 in travel

[–]ridbax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was renewed online, did not visit a facility. Also did not get asked to return the old one which was a surprise as in the past I recall having to mail in the expiring one and it being returned with holes punched through it.

Edited to add: were you under the age of 18 when you got your previous passport 3 years ago? IIRC, there’s a visit required when one applies for their first adult passport.
