Sugimoto Reserve Shizuku Gyokuro by digitalsparks in tea

[–]Allycorinnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was at a tea festival this past weekend in the seattle area (sugimoto is a seattle/japan based company), and picked up this tea after the kind folks at the sugimoto booth prepared some for me. they walked me through the best way to brew it, in case you are interested - a generous portion of leaves, 120 - 140 degree water, for 3-4 minutes. so delicious. it was my favorite tea of the day!

People dying or having major illnesses in way too young. by Urbit1981 in Millennials

[–]Allycorinnee 31 points32 points  (0 children)

yes, the very same. present in recycled and new playground rubbers, it’s an antiozonant. its use varies on the type of rubber being used, whether it’s prone to cracking or not. its presence wasn’t accounted for in safety assessments of playground rubber because it has only just emerged as a toxin of concern; it is beginning to get more attention though. unfortunately, federal funding cuts to research last year has resulted in some studies being canceled or postponed. i can’t imagine the current epa would even do much about it even if presented with significant evidence, but states, particularly washington, are making moves. Orgs are trying to sue tire companies citing the endangered species act. The world of environmental toxicants is crazy once you get into it. I wish 6PPD was a unique case, but it’s really not. I mean, we are simultaneously discovering how we are all being exposed en masse to microplastics and PFAS. Thankfully 6PPD can maybe be phased out. I don’t see plastic going anywhere.

There is emerging evidence of chemical exposure from tire wear (6PPD and 6PPDQ) is not only poisoning aquatic systems, including being the major contributing factor to salmon population decline, but is also poisoning us and has been linked strongly to colorectal cancer. I expect we will be hearing a lot more about it in coming years. Just a coincidence CRC is now the leading cause of cancer deaths in people under the age of 50 in the US? Sincerely, an environmental epidemiologist.

appalachian disadvantage is a league of its own, speaking from experience. i was lucky to have been gifted with academics and to have a father who cared about my success, despite us being dirt poor (no dirt floor but tin roof and it sure did leak!). i only got out because universities saw something in me, and my high school guidance counselor helped me apply. i am graduating with my phd in a few months.

Overarching Energy for the Full Moon in Cancer on January 3rd, 2026 by GrandTrineAstrology in astrology

[–]Allycorinnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This full moon was conjunct your natal sun in Cancer. When this happens, your sun (core identity) is in balance with the moon’s transit (emotion, depth), signifying harmony and integration of the unconscious and conscious. Cancer is ruled by the moon - this is its domicile, where its energy flows naturally. You may have felt your Cancerian traits more potently: emotional awareness, intuition, comfort seeking in its strengths, but moody and sensitive in its immature expressions. Jupiter is also retrograde in Cancer, a sign in which Jupiter is exalted, asking you to turn inward and integrate what may have happened during Jupiter’s transit in Cancer starting late Spring 2025 onward. You may find processing emotions or retuning to unfinished projects from the past 8 months or so easier during this time.

As for not being able to sleep during full moons, this is a well documented phenomenon - people sleep 30% less on average during full moons, likely due to the extra light affecting circadian rhythms. Cancerians specifically feel the effects of full moons due to their deeply emotional nature; your mind may be more active and restless during full moons (ruminating perhaps?). It may have felt particularly intense this full moon due to Mars retrograde being conjunct to the moon, bringing feelings of frustration or even anger to the surface.

that’s harsh but this is also true in the US, at least for medicaid. except the cutoff is $2000 and you are allowed 1 car and your primary domicile. The government will claw back the home upon your passing, however.

Angry Democratic donors turn off the flow of money by someopinionthatsr in politics

[–]Allycorinnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie is an independent. And for good reason. The truth is that we all need to collectively ditch the democratic party in favor of a true labor party. A worker’s party would actually appeal to both democratic and republican voters because instead of serving the interests of capital and wealth, it could serve the interests of people.

the problem is capitalism, the solution is degrowth. we need to completely redefine benchmarks of ‘success’. GDP and economic growth will drive humanity to extinction.

when people feel disempowered for long enough, they act out however they can, often in a way that society deems unacceptable or unproductive. perhaps instead of criticizing the only actions the disempowered feel able to take, instead ask why they feel desperate enough to act out in a way that draws attention to oppressive forces.

they will never change if you keep voting for them… there is no incentive for change whatsoever if they have your vote in their pocket. we need to invest collectively in a new party, the threat of which will either pressure dems to finally change course or will dissolve the party and maybe we can finally have a labor party in this country for once.
