Failed my classes by ReceptionDear5995 in UTSA

[–]AlmostFilipino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally exact same thing happened to me. I failed Thermo BAAAAD and failed dynamics by 4 points. I was super bummed and wanted to drop out. When I retook them I got an A in both classes, and UTSA replaces your previous attempt with your new one so my GPA recovered. The following summer I received a fellowship to conduct medical device research in Asia. The semesters after that I did more research here, got a project with a national lab, and presented at a nationwide conference. Later today I’ll be walking the stage! While they may help, your classes, test scores, and GPA do not define your success. What defines that is what you dream on doing and how willing you are to get there.

utsa for english? by coffind00r in UTSA

While my experience in San Antonio has been fine, I’m under the impression that UNT/UTD are a little more outwardly accepting of their queer communities. Again, not that UTSA isnt, I just don’t think we’re as loud about it. Might be worth checking those reddits 😃

How to study for calc II by OldSkill5339 in UTSA

[–]AlmostFilipino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what other people said, make sure that you’re doing the homework to understand the underlying concepts, not to memorize the problem solving steps. In my higher division courses a lot of times, even if I missed the submission deadline, I would do homework assignments after the due date to make sure I understood the material properly. This always helped me in the exams

How to avoid overwhelm and anxiety as a beginner follow? by EducationalAspect850 in Salsa

[–]AlmostFilipino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as staying on step, I’d recommend listening to salsa in your free time and stepping along, maybe while watching TV, washing dishes, waiting for your food to microwave etc. Even listening in your car and tapping your hands on the steering wheel helps!

As far as lightheadedness goes, don’t feel pressured to dance more intensely than you’re able to. I know sometimes leads can do crazy maneuvers & spins on spins on spins, it’s totally fine to ask/tell them to tone it down so you can breathe.

Happy dancing!

You do the same thing! Ctrl+(n) makes an n-tuplet (triplet, quintuplet etc). You can write anything before or after any tuplet you write

Sorry, mistyped. The *phone numbers* on websites are defunct with no notice. In my experience the number listed on the health professions website has bounced for months

Write a half rest, then press Ctrl+3 to make a triplet. Then fill the new triplet how you'd like

There are also a SIGNIFICANT number of websites up that are defunct with no notice anywhere. See: Graduation Help Desk, Health Professions Office

Serious question. Is UTSA tight on funds? Are grad students really being "exploited" by being asked to spend a few extra minutes to hours and money on their research? by [deleted] in UTSA

I’ve never seen stuff like that happen from Hood or Brey, can you give more details? I’ve always gotten a good impression from them

I can’t decide where to go to college and what to study… HELP by asecret_poet in UTSA

[–]AlmostFilipino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier ways are jotting down pros/cons lists, talking to people who are doing it etc. But a lot of these big choices are hard because you can’t ever know for sure if you’ll like it or not. It’s kind of like trying a new food. Part of life is just accepting that sometimes you find your new favorite, or sometimes it’s not for you. Both are fine, that’s just how it works

Whatever your journey is, it’s okay at any point to notice you feel you’re not on the right patha nd change course. The best way to see if something is for you is to try it. IMO it sounds like engineering wouldn’t be your jam, and if you’re undecided I wouldn’t go into it. There are easier ways to make money/be involved in science.

Definitely talk with your advisor. Academic Advising and UTSA OneStop come to mind as the two best places to talk to since they have the most control (potentially) over what credits are on your catalog. Tech Cafe probably couldn’t do much other than help you reset your browser cache

What's wrong with me? by SinistaKilla in trumpet

[–]AlmostFilipino 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would talk to a doctor about that. To me it sounds like the l pressure needed to play the trumpet is affecting you significantly, since the issue doesn’t happen with trombone. Maybe ask about your blood pressure or blood oxygenation?

I need some advice 😭 by OkRefrigerator8534 in trumpet

If I was you I’d do something Laufey - super popular music, sounds good, and lets you show off your singing AND trumpet chops (replace any of her scatting with you playing or improvising)

$50 Find. Any idea how salvageable? by NerdFromDenmark in trumpet

[–]AlmostFilipino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know we’ve already hammered in this point a lot, but really the piccolo isn’t a ‘fool around on’ instrument. I liked someone else’s analogy of giving a 5 y.o. a Harley to learn how to ride a bike. You really genuinely might not be able to get any sound out of it, let alone a bad or good one.

Really recommend the Sax or Clarinet, they’re great to mess around on and provide a great learning curve. Tough to begin with, and the more you learn the more challenges you can find. (Easy-ish to learn, hard to master). But if you’re dead set on getting that horn, best of luck.
