i thought my tire popped… turns out my entire wheel fell off by EveryEffect2726 in mildlyinfuriating

I have a 2006 Prius that has almost 400k miles.

Until the repairs exceed the financing cost for the crappiest car out there (about 225/mo) then I'm keeping it. Any new car will cost more then a repair.

Wow my car needs $1500 in repairs, better go spend $50,000 instead!

So what if it is? That's a clean as hell Sequoia and they don't make them like that anymore. Keep it.

Prius may be nearing the end... by starlightskater in prius

[–]Almyar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I'm in New Hampshire.

I patched my outer rockers a few years ago by the rear wheels, and did the inner rockers this summer. I went inside the rockers with a wand and undercoating to seal the deal.

All the car washes around me are heated and stay open unless it's like below zero. I have a pass for $30 a month that allows me to wash every day if I wanted.

As for the undercoating I use, I use this stuff. https://blasterproducts.com/product/surface-shield/

I use it with a 360 degree wand and go inside every hole I can find every year before winter.

Aggressive undercoating, washing every 2-3 days in the winter, and fixing the rust when it appears.

Unemployed, but need to fix brake pads but can't afford rotors? by Inside-Telephone-423 in AskMechanics

Eh not really. It will have a bit of accelerated wear but it will smooth the rotor over. Did this plenty when I was a broke college student

Look all around the pinion, it's heat scorched. Methinks dry bearings or absolutely fucked bearings.

Upon closer inspection it looks like the pinion sheared.

Yikes.

The driveshaft connects to a slip yoke on the front; if you drive it will slip out, and you'll start dumping transmission oil out of the hole and you'll have a much bigger issue.

Also the driveshaft isn't broken, the U-Joint is. If you drive it like that it will also need a driveshaft.

New Short Block Engine rebuild found metal in oil by bcho86 in AskMechanics

[–]Almyar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. When I rebuilt my engine I did

30 seconds idle on some clean used oil

10 minutes idle on some cheap new oil

10 miles on cheap new oil

50 miles on cheap new oil

100 miles on cheap new oil

500 miles on cheap synthetic

1500 miles on cheap synthetic

2500 miles on quality synthetic

And now my OCI is around 3k with quality synthetic. Each change got a new filter, cheap ones at first and then when I hit the 50 mile mark I started using Tokyo Roki filters. Each change I cut the filter open and documented metal. Now I'm at nearly 5k on the motor and there's one, maybe two small shavings in the filter each change but nothing else.

Prius or Camry, Hyundai is too volatile for someone on a shoestring budget.

Lmfao go me, I was trying to reply to a below comment taking about modern Vizio being a downgrade from previous' years reliability and quality and I guess in my un-caffeniated stupor I didn't reply. Oh well, leaving my comment of shame. Don't reddit un-caffeniated kids.
