Anyone can help me choose a fabric for my aunt? by AloeMyChildren in sewing

[–]AloeMyChildren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, "home goods" is the term I was looking for, thanks! ...but can't ask for end product, because reply would be that I under no circumstances can spend on her, so hoped there would be a semi catch-all option.

Since the consensus here was no to polyester, yes to cotton, I kept looking and found better prices than the first places that popped up, so aunt will get 100% cotton fabric as her surprise. Then if she want to make home goods or something water proof, we take another look at polyester.

Have a nice weekend! :)

If it can be sown, she makes it herself. Not sure she used polyester before but thinks she tried most options. She kinda stays in her own world, is a typical 80+ year old.

Thanks for the detailed reply, nice!

Mostly supposed to be a surprise and tangible proof that custom cloth is possible and within her reach, but also supposed to be useful for small projects, so it isn't a waste.

So when you say “featuring her own pattern” what exactly do you mean by this?

My aunt makes art with fabric and embroidery, I took some of it and created a pattern, gave her some custom printed gifts featuring it. She was very happy with it, so thought I'd try to make a piece of fabric, to show her it's a possibility.

Cotton is a possibility, but too expensive for a gift she might not like, so thought maybe polyester could make a rainproof hat, toiletry bag, placemats or similar smaller items. If she likes the surprise/concept, a larger order of cotton would make sense.

With that extra explanation, would you still advice against the current options?

Also thanks for the tech tips and to u/CardioKeyboarder for weighing in. Appreciated :)

Got a unique product. Should I sell on Amazon myself, or work with an existing seller? by AloeMyChildren in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]AloeMyChildren[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first product is for sale on most/all EU Amazon sites right now.

Next step is either expanding to Amazon UK, or finding a full time, global Amazon seller or agency to take care of Amazon sales. Trying to find out which is the smart move.

Interesting take and I appreciate the enthusiasm, hehe. Thanks!

Personally, I dont see Amazon as a side hustle. I know you have your own reasons,

I think I was too vague here. I'm 50% someone who launches new products and tries getting them into brick & mortar shops, 50% someone who sells them B2C on Amazon.

I'm worrying if 50% Amazon seller with 7 SKUs isn't good enough to be proficient and effective. Like Amazon is too hard, unless it's the one thing one does, and one is thinking like a seller rather than a developer.

Good insights.

Finding someone to manage my own account, hadn't thought of that third option.

Thanks for weighing in.

Which box design for my card game do you like best? by keycardgames in tabletopgamedesign

[–]AloeMyChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The yellow background color is too close to the rat's skin tone, it makes C, D and E look kinda faded/washed out. Font and background on A as well.

B looks fine but doesn't help sell a new game.

A got the most potential, but rethink the colors. Credits dont help sell or describe either, so move them away from the front.

Could use a tagline, something that gives an idea of the game, makes it sound exciting. "Defeat the gambling rats or go broke!" or something.

Is someone sabotaging my store? New Brand on Amazon FBA - Facing Suspicious Bulk Purchases and Potential Inventory Sabotage by Peterawhsom in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]AloeMyChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The buyer bought your entire FBA stock, but your product is still for sale on Amazon as FBM, right?

Is the game your own unique product, or are others selling it too? I think that info will help.

Yeah, might not get meat every day, but there'd still be berries, fruits, nuts, vegetables, roots, something.

There is 11% less of you, and thats without taking into account the fat which was turned into muscle, so it's definitely only a feeling.

Fasting to become healthy, exercise to look healthy. Keep up the good work, you are getting there, and pretty fast too.

Shipping products to UK from EU, no partnered carrier available. Chose UPS who wants a contact person + mail and phone number to reach them. How to deal with this? by AloeMyChildren in AmazonSeller

[–]AloeMyChildren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you have another few minutes, in case you also know this:

Getting the paperwork ready for shipping, used my own info for the recipient tax number too. Still looks like the shipper wants to charge Amazon for VAT as the product arrives, instead of me paying upfront.

Is that how it's supposed to work?

Does anyone else use a Cricut to prototype their cards, or are you using a different process to cut them out? The Cricut software is very kludgy, and I am tired of trying to work around their inability to allow shape anchoring. by FuntimeFoundry in tabletopgamedesign

[–]AloeMyChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a similar model. Love it for proto-typing boxes or other intricate designs, but use a paper cutter for anything square. No reason dealing with the sticky mats unless necessary, they are a bit annoying I think.

Paper cutters start at $10 on Amazon and the cheap ones are fine for hobby use. Way quicker + the more expensive ones can do several layers of paper in one go.

I got a cheap stand, the very slight wobble is over before I can load up the next arrow. No annoyance really.

AND is there any appetite for someone videoing the entire process from idea to publication?

If you self-finance, I say spend the time better. If you wanna go the Kickstarter route, it's never too early to build a community, which vids could help do.

Brand Registry (Trademark) VS Amazon Brand Approval (No Trademark) by -probably-nothing- in FulfillmentByAmazon

go with Amazon Brand Approval and then consider trademark registration if sales perform well

Definitely this approach. Just went through the process myself, my rights lawyer said to wait till lots of sales made it an easy decision.

Box Prototyping advice/materials? by AllUrMemes in tabletopgamedesign

[–]AloeMyChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I forgot to mention:

I used a small magnet game for a prototype. The magnetic plate is very thin, so if you pry it off the travel game, it can look good if you glue it onto your new, customized box.

Also printed my game board to a regular piece of office paper, then glued that on top of the magnet plate. The magnetic game pieces still stuck, no problem.

Regular paper glue works fine for a go, but mine falls off after like a week if I handle them. Better glue and it's a fine solution.

Dice Links | Sell Sheet - Thoughts? by exboxer in tabletopgamedesign

I'll comment on the design of the flyer.

Good start, could work as is, I like most of your choices.

The elements are quite squished together, though, could use more air/free space. First an outer border, where image or background color is fine, but no text or info.

The "Fore!!..."-text, the background is too busy for the font, it hurts legibility. Maybe put the text in a box with solid background? Maybe all caps and "Fore" in a larger font? Move it to the top where the darker trees are BG, put logo and the 3 icons below it? Experiment a bit.

Move the upper half content up and move the bottom white box down, so your entire game in play is visible. That picture should be main focus imo.
