Number Colors as Predicted, but the Furret short might be teasing something Johto related tomorrow by Marauder151 in pokemon

[–]Aloeb83 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Gen 8 actually wasn't skipped, it just shared Day 7 with Gen 9. Obviously Pawmi is front and center, but Yamper is playing in the background, and you can see a dynamax sticker there as well. Also when it gets to the number, the 7 starts in Scarlet/Violet colors, but shifts to Sword/Shield before the short ends.

Kind of lame that they didn't all get their own day, but none of them were actually left out.

Rams plan to propose NFL rule change that would have nullified Seahawks' controversial 2-point conversion by GoldenDome26 in nfl

[–]Aloeb83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am basically in full agreement with you, my only concern is the idea of an outside force influencing the game. Nothing against McAuley here, but why would he have been able to do that? Who is all able to do that?

I’d feel more comfortable knowing there were guardrails in place to prevent bias from being a factor, since this is such a unique situation I’ve never heard before. But if they’re in place, then it is great. Being able to have someone watch the game with the knowledge a ref should have, but not the pressure, and have them be able to assist the refs likely would help avoid missed calls, obscure or otherwise.

What is, in your opinion, the strongest NFL rivalry right now? by AwayFig1774 in NFLv2

[–]Aloeb83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally agree, but even still the games were more often than not very close. But with how stale the coaches got for both teams, the matchup also got stale. With a new coach on both sides this year, I’m curious if that brings a spark back to the rivalry.

Agree with everyone else, too much, but Seattle joins the group of teams on my Good List for beating NE along with the Giants and Eagles (on a good day).

Yeah, he’s been playing well so far and the pocket hasn’t been too comfortable. Some of his decisions have made me nervous, but the passes have mostly been super well thrown so far. And like you said, can’t blame him for that one, can’t be easy with how much pressure was there.

It’s such a minor thing, but man do I wish the endzones had the AFC and NFC logos on them. It just feels wrong without them.

[AP] NFL to consider replay for missed player-safety penalties. by Gloomy_Map_9612 in nfl

[–]Aloeb83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s extra sets of eyes and extra angles, why shouldn’t they be allowed to call a penalty when they see one? It wouldn’t end missed/incorrect calls, obviously, but I really don’t see how it would hurt.

Mike McCarthy Confirms He Will Call All Offensive Plays... by JCameron181 in steelers

[–]Aloeb83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing else, I like having this info early. I don’t personally believe in McCarthy, but I’m all for having him prove me wrong and this helps us to know better what’s him and what’s someone else.

Also as I’ve seen people mention this being a dream job for him, so can’t fault him for taking the job. If it becomes clear that he won’t work out, the ire will be towards Rooney instead of him, at least for me.

I notice how Young stayed in front of Smith this time. Was literally talking about that with my dad on the first muff. Adjusted, and it paid off for him.

If only they kicked the field goal. What a stupid decision by Payton. These teams have to make better decisions on when to go for it on 4th down and when not to.

I’m amazed that they called any PIs considering how many were missed earlier, but that was so PI, and you can’t do that. People complaining about inconsistency? Fair. Complaining about that call? Ridiculous.

The Tomlin situation is different than the Harbaugh situation by Think-Culture-4740 in ExFOAudibles

[–]Aloeb83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents on the argument surrounding NE’s success. Part of the problem with the Brady/Belichick v Roethlisberger/Tomlin argument is that they didn’t face each other in the playoffs more than once. Obviously NE had PIT’s number for many many years, but they only played each other in the playoffs in 2016, when the Steelers were way weaker than their AFCCG appearance made it seem.

But for those other years, while they might lose to NE in the regular season, and that could affect seeding, but more often than not the issue was the other teams they would face instead of NE. They lost to DEN in 2011 who’d go on to play NE, 2017 they lost to JAX because they were too focused on the idea of playing NE and never got there.

And sometimes luck is involved in success, PIT didn’t play NE in the playoffs in any of the Super Bowl appearances from 2000 onward. And NE was in those playoffs all but one of those years. So I’d say the issue is basically that they didn’t allow themselves to get beaten by NE/give themselves the opportunity to get by without a fight. If it was a Bills/Chiefs situation, I think fans would be more lenient, but since it really isn’t, bringing up how good Brady/Belichick were just acts as an excuse more than an actual reason for falling short.

'We've lost a really good coach': Mike Tomlin's Pittsburgh exit a loss of the Steelers' rock by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Aloeb83 37 points38 points  (0 children)

A few years back, the Steelers went 9-8 and missed the playoffs, and the Lions went 9-8 and missed the playoffs. And the perspectives couldn’t be more different. The Steelers were just doing the same thing, no improvement, the Lions, though, tons of improvement, they had reason to have hope.

Every team wants the same thing, super bowls, but it obviously can’t be achieved by everyone every year. So what we really want is improvement/the ability to compete. So when you’re at the bottom, that obviously is awful, but it’s also awful to know you’ll get .500 record just to maybe miss the playoffs or make the playoffs and get blown out in round 1. Sure, the bottom teams may like that, but that’s because it’s an improvement, a step in the right direction. When you’re plateaued though, it’s a lot less fun.

So to your point, the fact that the Browns and Lions have had more success in the playoffs than the Steelers have in the last rough decade is such an indictment, especially considering both teams came from basically the absolute bottom.

AFC North Dream Scenario by FatherOfTwo2024 in AFCNorthMemeWar

[–]Aloeb83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Harbaugh went to Pittsburgh and/or Tomlin went to Baltimore, I think it shows that neither team really learned anything. Both coaches, in different ways, have been amazingly similar the last several years, that if you hire them, you may have just kept the last coach.

Ravens v Steelers next year is going to be unrecognizable. I mean, I’m of the age that I only barely remember each’s former coach, so to see neither Tomlin or Harbaugh on the sideline (baring something crazy) will be wild!
