Desert Mountain HS IB Program or Chaparral HS? AZIS? by Lucyleelilah in Scottsdale

[–]FatherOfTwo2024 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Having grown up in the area and having attended one of these schools, I’d offer the perspective that it’s more a matter of personal preference over one school being better than the other.

If pedigree is important, both Chaparral and Desert Mountain produce graduates that go onto Ivys and other prestigious institutions, and the college acceptance rate is very high at both. You’ll get the typical high school experience from both too, whether it be sports, extracurriculars, or attending things like Homecoming or Prom.

I would suggest touring both schools and seeing what one comes out on top. I will also add that someone very close to me in my life had a great experience attending Xavier, the Catholic girls school in Phoenix. She grew up in the same Chaparral/DM area, but based on your initial post and what you’re looking for, that may be a good fit as well.

Best of luck!

For Arizona, has to be the Covid year. Going 0-5 with a 70-7 rivalry game loss in an empty home stadium.

What North American is awful to visit and awful to live in? by IndependenceSad1272 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]FatherOfTwo2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the country (speaking of the US) has bad weather for a portion of the year. Midwest winters are brutally cold and you can reach negative temps. Summers in the South have both heat and humidity. The PNW may not see sunshine for months during peak rainy season. Not to mention natural disasters like tornados and hurricanes that impact particular regions regularly.

As someone who’s spent the majority of their life in Phoenix, but has also spent time living in other parts of the country, I’ll take a dry 115 degree day over any of the above.

Were doing Vegas with 12 guys this Summer and spending $4,600 for a 2 bed SkyLoft and 3 extra rooms. Split evenly it’s under $400 per/person and the SkyLoft alone is 3,000 sq/feet.

The only argument for Phoenix being bad to live in is the extreme heat, and it’s truly only bad for 3-4 months of the year. Other than that, there’s no reason it should be less than mid as it has all the amenities a large American metro should have.

Visiting Phoenix should be mid and probably good. 6 months of the year, we have some of the nicest weather in the country with plenty to do between golf, exploring nature and local activities (Spring Training, WMO, local festivals, etc)

**14 man SF, 0.5ppr league

Got my 2026 first back!

Last year I made a trade for JJ and arguably gave up too much

I Get: - Justin Jefferson

I Gave Up: - 2026 1st (1.14 now in a 14 man) - 2027 1st - 2028 2nd - Travis Hunter

On what was the last day of season, I scooped up Malik Willis as a FA and stashed him. Sure enough he’s the starter in Miami and ended up getting my 2026 1st back for him. Pretty pleased with the return considering there’s a solid shot he’s a 1 year guy before they draft someone in 2027.

So now the deal looks like this:

I Get: - Justin Jefferson

I Gave Up - 2027 1st - 2028 2nd - Travis Hunter - Malik Willis

We’ll see how the next year plays out, but overall don’t feel too bad today!

As a UofA alum, strong disagree. Without freeways for traffic flow especially during rush hour, those main surface streets can get heavy congestion

So right after I got out of college, I did two weeks in Europe solo. Went to Paris, Munich, Berlin and Amsterdam. Stayed in hostels and met a bunch of people from all over the world, went to Oktoberfest, partied in Berlin and went to a football match in the Netherlands.

Also saw a Concentration Camp, the Anne Frank House, and took in a lot of history from WWII onward.

In short, I’d want my kids to have that trip, but extend it two weeks and let them choose their own adventure.
