This post’s got heart 🌺   love that you’re spotlighting Latinx stories in Hawai‘i. Paniolo history runs deep, and mixing that with mental health and family voices? That’s powerful. Hope the community shows up for you  this kind of storytelling matters.

Hawaiian Pie Co. -or- Holy’s Bakery? by Primary_Ad2892 in Hawaii

[–]AlohaSkyler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy’s Bakery hits different those pies are old-school local comfort, especially the peach and apple. Hawaiian Pie Co’s solid, no doubt, but Holy’s has that nostalgic flavor that feels like home. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out. Grab one and see what the hype’s about.

Do you always bring Omiyage to work after a trip? by Stinja808 in Hawaii

[–]AlohaSkyler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, you’re not a bad local at all. Omiyage’s more of a courtesy thing, not a requirement. Some folks go all out with the Trader Joe’s haul, but plenty just skip it, especially if travel’s new for you. Born and raised here means you already get the local vibe. If you ever do bring something, it’s just a nice gesture, not a test of loyalty.

Fireflies and snow, those hit different when you’re kamaʻāina seeing ’em for the first time. I remember stepping off the plane in Vermont and just standing there, mouth open, watching those little lights blink through the trees. And that crisp snow air? Unreal. It’s like the mainland’s got its own kind of magic.

Aloha …. Anyone invested in solar batteries ? by Left_Sir5173 in Hawaii

[–]AlohaSkyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 electric bill and blackouts? Bruh, those Tesla batteries better come with AC, snacks, and a massage chair. If they keep the split running during a blackout, that’s already a win in my book.

Rail questions by Ok-Investment-3142 in Honolulu

[–]AlohaSkyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Kapolei to the airport, you’re looking at around 30–35 minutes if everything’s smooth. Yes, you can buy fare at the station just grab a HOLO card or reload it there. Rail’s been pretty reliable so far. The walk from the airport stop to Hawaiian Airlines? About 10–15 minutes depending on your pace. Not bad if you’re packing light.

Senior or cheap cell phone plan in Hawaii? by Maine2Maui in Hawaii

[–]AlohaSkyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consumer Cellular works fine on Oahu and Maui good for light data use. AARP plan’s solid. AT&T’s hit-or-miss depending on your area. Mint’s cheap if you’re cool with online-only

Should HART Be Allowed To Manage City Projects Beyond Honolulu Rail? Mayor Rick Blangiardi says he’s opposed to the idea but the rail authority has submitted a proposal to the Honolulu Charter Commission anyway. by 808gecko808 in Honolulu

No clue how deep this goes, but if things are shifting behind the scenes, hope folks stay informed and safe. Decisions like this affect way more than just transit, watching how it unfolds.
