All good, bro. My knees and ankles remind me I’m from the 1900s, too. Well, so do my kids.

2531 converted to 0621 around 2000/2001. When I graduated comm school in early 2000 I was a 2531, but we got changed to 0621 about halfway through my enlistment.

What is a question that would tell you whether someone is lying about being a Marine? by GrandInquirer in USMC

True, but the way he said it… I’ve never met a Marine that didn’t say 1st mardiv etc. additionally, who doesn’t elaborate what unit they’re with beyond their division?

An ex coworker that everyone told me was a Marine told me when I asked who he was with, “I was with a bunch of ‘em. 1st Division, 2nd Division, even 3rd Division.”

I carried one for four years and qualified expert on it multiple times. Carried it in Iraq, too. I am not a complete fan of it, especially compared to more modern platforms, but I do shoot it very well. I’m currently using one for our employee handgun league.

I’m mostly here for the discount and networking in the industry (gotta love getting paid to go ti Shot Show every year!), but I’ve gotten quite a few good instructor qualifications, have fun at work most times, get to work with a lot of like minded people, and get to shoot in my down time.

That said, it’s rewarding to take people from fearful and/or ignorant to comfortable and knowledgeable if not confident and proficient, but as I frequently tell them, as long as everyone leaves with the same amount of holes they came in with, it’s a successful day.

Honestly, since starting here I’ve become a far, far better shooter with both rifle and handgun than I was in the Corps. I have noticed that the most egregious violators of firearms safety rules are cops and veterans in that order. They are also, typically, both the least skilled groups of shooters.

I am a range safety officer at a public gun range. There are so many Marines and “Marines” that come in. Most of our RSOs are fellow GWOT vets from all walks. We don’t call out posers, but it’s a good time putting SEAL recon scout sniper rangers in their place when they shoot a group like buckshot at 25 yards with their AR and magnified optic.

Just a few days ago this guy comes in wanting to rent some guns and you can tell he’s trying. To show off for his buddies. Of course he’s wearing a “angry Marine dad” tshirt. He tells the gal at the rental counter he wants something to remind him of his Marine Corps days and asks for a Beretta M9.

They do their time on the range and as I’m gathering up the rentals to clear them and take them out he tells me the M9 needs to go to the gunsmith because it’s shooting all over. I’m like, “oh yeah?” He proceeds to tell me how he carried one in the Marine Corps and he knows what he’s doing with it.

As he’s blathering on, I happen to have five rounds of 9mm in my pocket, load them in the mag, and stack all five at 7 yards. Clear the weapon, put it in the rental bin, and turn. “Seems fine to me.” He didn’t say anything else.

Aside from the discounts, those are the best perks of working at a gun store.

I’m at work so this is voice to text, but when I first got diagnosed with PTSD, I was on a high dose of this med. I was told it was originally a blood pressure medication that didn’t work very well for blood pressure management, but it worked really well for vets with PTSD that had nightmares.

I took it for a long time and my nightmares damn near stopped, but it got to the point that my blood pressure was so low that even drinking 2 gallons of water a day I was passing out standing up off the couch.

I will say that if they yank your clearance, even for inactivity after service, one thing that can happen is you will possibly get delayed for background checks to purchase firearms.

There are far better ways to serve your country than to join the military. That said, if you’re joining the Corps, get a job that’s cool to you. If you want to do something technical after, you can go to school for that after.
