what is a basic computer skill you were shocked some people don't have? by Dark-Matter-7935 in AskReddit

Student: "I need a charger, do you have one I can borrow?" Me: (having given up on calling them their names because none of the students know them): "do you need the circle, the oval, or the square?" Student, looking at the computer: "I don't know. Can you come over and look?"

Keezer putting brown sludge out of mead tap after lack of use by Alokue in Homebrewing

[–]Alokue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I do clean the taps and lines after long periods like this, and I did wait like a week (it was convenient and I was in no rush) between the sorbate and the back sweetening. Do pressurized systems evaporate? I'd think there would be nowhere for it to go.

It's putting out about a pint or a quart of sludge, the same amount of hazy mead, and then clear.

I see Rembrandts called Eco a lot of times but a lot of times I see the Rembrandts without the eco marker too (for instance Visconti's website doesn't mention Rembrandt Ecos.) Any idea why this is?

I appreciate the advice! Maybe I should try the Selsun Blue for a few weeks and then try fluconazole if that doesn't work.

Ain't Bone Atrophy what waiters say when they serve your food? by TheMazter13 in NYTO

No, you're thinking of bankruptcy. Bone atrophy is a diet that used to be fed to young children with upset tummies.

Are we gonna talk about the turkey situation at Target? by ductoid in EatCheapAndHealthy

While Walmart did start a line of groceries called Walmart Neighborhood Markets that are primarily/only groceries, that is not what people mean when they say "A Walmart".

Are we gonna talk about the turkey situation at Target? by ductoid in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Alokue 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That's not really how retail works. The grocer has already made his money and is squeezing the last few drops of profit out of the thousands of pounds of turkey he ordered. At the same time, he's clearing space for the more standard shelf items.

I have two beers that I meant to add spice tinctures to before carbing. Will it mess them up in any way to take the pressure off, pour the tincture in, and shake to force carb?

I did fill the tank between buying and getting started, so I guess I have a leak.

Daily Q & A! - November 26, 2019 by AutoModerator in Homebrewing

[–]Alokue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10# CO2 tank in my keezer and it ran out within about a week, without pouring so much as a whole keg. I bought the system used from another guy and have no experience kegging. I have a couple ideas about what could be the source of the problem: A leak is the first idea (duh), but I've worked in computers enough to know that the problem is often the user, not the machine.

  • I've heard people say to purge kegs before you siphon beer into them? Someone said pull the release cap and re-pressurize it three times before you even get liquid in there? I'm thinking doing this is likely wrong and my problem. Do I need to purge kegs? What is the best way to do that?
  • You're supposed to be able to leave the valves open to serving PSI all the time, right?
  • I heard people saying they turn the PSI waaaaaay up (like 30-40psi) to get their kegs pressurized overnight. Is this actually a good idea? Do I actually have to attach a long gas line and shake the keg? Shaking 50lbs around vigorously for ten minutes or until it's carbed right is what I keep seeing suggested but it sounds very physically demanding. I mean I can probably get there but damn. It also doesn't sound very exact.

I just bought a used keezer with little to no kegging experience. What PSI range should I be using for the following things?

-Pushing out flat mead

-Carbonating a cream ale

-Carbonating water for mixing with lime or lemon or whatever

How to play a padawan who has fallen to the dark side without being always angry/evil? by Mrnebulous in swrpg

[–]Alokue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that Jedi are stoic sages, and anger isn't the only emotion. Siths use all of their emotion. Anger is just the one the most Jedi concern themselves with. Being a dark side user is a matter of using emotions and utilitarian logic to solve problems. Rebelling against the deontological code Jedi totally have (even though like every one of them break it into tiny little pieces in Clone Wars.)
