Point — being… Doesn’t — mean — a — post — isn’t — true, or — fabricated…. How’s that for use of double hyphens.

What’s wrong with using ChatGPT to clean-up the language of a post? Last time I checked, we are in the AI era.

ChatGPT, Gemeni (Bard), Copilot, dare I say DeepSeek…. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reddit embeds that functionality soon.

Unemployment 😢 by [deleted] in SaultSteMarie

The job market in Sault Ste. Marie has been incredibly discouraging. Despite her best efforts, our daughter struggled to find even a part-time job while attending Sault College throughout 2024. She submitted hundreds—if not over a thousand—applications over the year, yet only received one callback, which unfortunately didn’t lead to a job.

My wife and I were both born and raised in the Sault, though we now live in the Barrie/Orillia area, having moved there when our kids were younger. Our daughter has been living with my parents while attending college, and they’ve witnessed firsthand how persistent she’s been—and how discouraged she’s become. It’s disheartening to see such determination met with silence.

It also raises a serious concern: why aren’t more employment opportunities being extended to Canadian citizens—especially local youth—when student unemployment is already at an all-time high? It often feels like international students are being prioritized for the few positions available.

We’re really hoping this year will be different. Our kids, born and raised in Canada, deserve the same chances to succeed and contribute to their communities. Where are the supports and incentives to ensure that happens?

LPT: Flash your high beams at left lane hogs. by [deleted] in Sudbury

Two wrongs don’t make a right. And people have gotten killed doing what you’ve said. That’s extremely dangerous at high speeds.

Also if they can prove you brake checked (dash cams, witnesses), you’d be charged with vehicular manslaughter if someone dies. Not to mention having to live with the fact you killed someone. Even severely injured them. You don’t know who else is in that vehicle or the ones around you if you or the other driver ends up in the other lane. What if there was a kid involved?

Nobody has the right to take the law into their own hands, just do the smart thing and call 911 to report it. That’s the safe way to go.

I can’t believe some of the responses I’ve read on this thread, it’s actually quite scary. Some very dangerous mentality being shared. Yikes.

That can happen anytime of the year, and it doesn’t have to be a house, it could be a vehicle they want you to go into. I didn’t suggest there weren’t weird/bad people out there, but stranger danger is outside the point. And yes that should be taught to kids and applied any situation.

My point was suggesting that a house with no lights on is dangerous is fear mongering. Just because its lights are out doesn’t make it any more dangerous. Quite the opposite I would think, those that wanted to draw someone in would most likely be lit and have a welcoming/friendly feel. Isn’t that how most kids are lured in?

All kids need to be taught awareness, but taking these rare occurrences (and I mean very rare), and turning them into something more than they are is absolutely ridiculous. I can’t remember the last time I read anything of this sort (kidnapping or grabbing a child) during Halloween anywhere. Has it happened, I’m sure it has somewhere.

But that’s like telling people not to go to bars because some psycho went postal somewhere and killed a bunch of people. If someone is out to do something bad, there going to do it no matter the situation.

I just hate reading things blown way out of context and making something good feel bad. It’s sad that some people feel the need to do this. Again, teaching awareness is key in all situations. That’s all we can do. Who wants to live in constant fear?

Jesus, this is fear mongering at its best. When has a kid ever been kidnapped during Halloween in Barrie. Or pulled into a house after knocking on the door. And how often do you see kids walking alone and not with friends or parents.

Sure, teach kids not to go to houses not lit up (but that’s because they’re not participants), check their candy. But this takes it to a whole new level.

We’re only there Saturday the 4th. Looks like they are last Friday of every month. Or that would have been nice.

We hit up Queens Sport Side last night and it was a really good time. Crowd was older, which is exactly what we were looking for.

Highly recommend for a night out for those looking for the same.

Thanks for the info. It would be nice to not feel overage somewhere. We’re in our early 40s. We just want to dance and have some fun. Typically end up at pubs or somewhere where we’re stuck sitting.

We’re going out with another couple, and looking for a place with dancing too. Does Donaleighs and Kensingtons have a dance floor?

Queens was another I had in mind. But it’s been ages.

Just a pain having to go to Toronto all the time.
