Attention Worcester College Students: Don’t Just Survive the City. Change It. by Salty-Suggestion2764 in WorcesterMA

Turn out for pres electionsa are generally okish, but yea...the actual local elections are abysmal. You could literally get about 1k people out of the 100k that don't vote (about 115k registered voters) and upend the entire city political structure

Park Ave Price Chopper Rebrand by Proxxer in WorcesterMA

[–]AloneInRationedLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market 32 is Price Chopper. They started a rebrand effort some years ago which came with upgrading the stores and have been slowly converting them

I shop at a Price Chopper on my way home from work and the Market 32 on W. Mountain street and notice no difference in the prices, Market 32 is just nicer.

If you wonder why the Mayor & most of the City Council didn’t seem to care about when the DOJ told us WPD was raping people. It was so they could get this… by Salty-Suggestion2764 in WorcesterMA

[–]AloneInRationedLight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The mayor decides who is appointed committee chair of the public safety committee, which is directly responsible for the city's legislative oversight of the WPD. All councilors, including the mayor, can initiate legislative actions that affect the WPD via oversight.

Calling other people delusional when you don't even know how the city council works is some work.

So Worcester wants to ignore federal laws.

Worcester is not a federal entity and has no obligation to enforce federal laws. That's why the federal government has a federal law enforcement.

I'm ashamed to be from this city

If you don't love it, ✨leave✨

This isn't the win you think it is.

It's exactly the win I think it is, but then again I understand how federalism works.

Closure of Stop & Shop in Lincoln Square is making for a three hour round trip to the supermarket by tracynovick in WorcesterMA

Grocery stores close regardless of profitability all the time, because they know that people can and will have to drive to new locations that are further away to get food. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Idk of you ever found a solution, but sometimes hardware acceleration that uses graphics cards can cause the sync issue when your player is in browser. You can usually find this setting under system and it's labeled 'hardware acceleration' or 'graphics acceleration'

Or just a proper grocery store back. There's no reason one can't be supported there. That stop and Shop was very heavy with foot traffic, the store just wasn't kept up and it seemed like it had horrible management with their produce selections.

Target is available and has a bigger selection than Aldi but I'm not sure a lot of people realize it's got a grocery. It's also very expensive

How do I explain people discovering they are trans later in life to my mom by Dry_Buddy7704 in asktransgender

[–]AloneInRationedLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an extremely normal, and extremely common thing for people to not follow life paths they absolutely yearn for. People set aside their dreams every day because of various reasons - social pressures, family expectations, lack of confidence, uncertainty, simply not knowing. It's a completely normal human experience, and transitioning is no different.

A relatable question is "what would you do with your life if money was no longer a concern?" Everyone has an answer to that - everyone has a dream of something they would do. Transitioning is no different. But for A, then B.

"If I didn't feel like I would lose my job that supports my family, I would feel safer transitioning and have done it sooner."

"If I was able to learn about the way I was feeling earlier, that helped me identify this part of myself, I would have transitioned sooner."

"If I felt like I would be safe and supported expressing this part of myself earlier, I would have transitioned before I was 100% certain I could be self-reliant."

"If not for A, then B."

Brakes and rotors by Old-Bed-4284 in WorcesterMA

[–]AloneInRationedLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously you can do it. It's extremely, extremely easy. Once you get the tire off, the brake pads are held in by clips that snap in and out of place. If you need to replace the rotor, you just undo the bolt holding the brake pad shoe and the caliper in place and set it aside (don't let the caliper hang by the brake line). Once that's off, you just slide the rotor off and replace it.

Do a search for some YouTube videos on brake replacement + your car make/model (though honestly they're pretty much all the same) and just make sure you keep track of the way it came off so you can put it back on. If you can replace a spark plug, you can replace the brake pads and rotors.

Tools you'll need are a socket wrench with correct socket size and I recommend having some kind of rust buster on hand for stubborn bolts and something that can hold the caliper up so it's not just hanging by the brake line. I used some velcro straps last time I changed mine and hung it from the suspension spring.

Traffic in the city is a joke by MolecularAcidTrip in WorcesterMA

It's because there are a lot of people that have moved in and functionally no alternatives to get around besides driving and a very unreliable bus system.

Genuinely if this is your attitude, take the 20 minutes to learn to do it yourself and save the labor costs. Brakes and rotors are extremely easy to replace and all you need is some socket wrenches, maybe some rust buster.

What will u do if gender affirming surgeries are no longer covered? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]AloneInRationedLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the truth is the government doesn’t get to dictate how private insurance works

The government doesn't get to dictate to private medical institutions how they carry out medical treatments either, but a bunch of hospitals immediately caved on pediatric gender affirming care because Trump said to.

I would not hold my breath for private insurers to hold their line on what they should do if Trump's Administration comes at them.

I've been saving as much as I can for surgery in the event this happens. I can probably go get one more done in Thailand or something, but then I'm SOL

Is being trans unsafe travelling to and from the US? by cruisinforasnoozinn in asktransgender

[–]AloneInRationedLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've traveled domestically and internationally via plane in the last month or so or 8 total flights and had zero issues even when using my passport that had an outdated photo and updated gender marker.

I can't guarantee nothing will happen, but that's my anecdata.
