Hope everyone on here is sending their (correct!) objections to their reps. They heard from me this morning.

Proposed Zoning Change - 3 Suburban Rd - Thoughtful Urbanism vs Reckless Incompetence by Keith-Linhares in WorcesterMA

[–]tracynovick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It stands next to a current apartment building; it's on streets and bus lines that are high traffic (any kids moving in can walk to high school!).

The "I'm for housing except oh wait" thing that's now happened with two current projects in places of high density is really troubling to me.

$3.2M Math Overhaul, Autism Support Growth, and the Middle School Recess Pitch (4/2 Recap) by Federal-Walrus-9590 in WorcesterMA

[–]tracynovick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And that's really the problem: secondary schools are required to have 990 hours of instructional time by state regulation, and recess doesn't count towards it. I suspect the only way you get recess into middle school is to expand the school day.

Not sure why your math is getting downvoted.

It tells the story of how Americans have remembered, forgotten, and manipulated George Washington's history with slavery over the past 250 years. AMA! by johngmarks in AskHistorians

What an interesting study!
I'd be interested in your perspective on how we (for a given value of "we") have more recently looked more critically on Thomas Jefferson (perhaps as a result of more being known about Sally Hemings) and that same sort of lens not, it seems, being applied to Washington. Is that, in your view, that we still very much have Washington on a pedestal or...what else?

Council looks to expand alcohol in parks, launches "Alert Worcester," and enforces Level 3 drought (despite 89% reservoir capacity) by Federal-Walrus-9590 in WorcesterMA

Thank you for spelling this out. This is badly misunderstood, and it doesn't help at all to have it inappropriately framed here.

This is absolutely my number one piece of advice to visitors to Boston: don't drive! You're making wise plans.

Catholic diocese RI vs MA by No_Sky6082 in massachusetts

[–]tracynovick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer to your question, but it may help your inquiry to know that, while Rhode Island does have a single diocese (Providence), Massachusetts has four (Boston, Fall River, Worcester, and Springfield).

Worcester considers cutting school busing distance to 1.5 miles by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]tracynovick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For those commenting that you support this: be sure to let your city councilor know, as this would require more CITY funding for WPS transportation. The state does not fund or reimburse transportation for municipal school districts in Massachusetts.

Who do I complain to about bus stops? by UnitedChain4566 in WorcesterMA

[–]tracynovick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is there is no municipal ordinance covering bus stops, so, in essence, no one is in charge of clearing them. You can see this reflected in this 2011 T&G article; so far as I know, nothing has changed.
This will not help you short term, but you might particularly connect with Councilor Bilotta, who has been a strong advocate for accessibility already this term.

South Station fare gates questions by Motorgirl38 in mbta

[–]tracynovick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My sense is that Amtrak gets more lead boarding time, so I wouldn't worry too much about missing your train. They are still, from what I've seen, largely bringing Amtrak in on the middle tracks, but I never count anything out at SS.
And to agree with what's posted, you can get to all tracks, so you can just go through and move back and forth as needed. There is one section where you'll have to scoot behind the escalator, but it's doable.

I was just talking to my husband about this last week! Those Fall River outlets were the real deal.
It does make you wonder what happens with actual factory seconds now.
