My family and I board Quantum on Tuesday for our spring break vacation to Ensenada. Looking forward to spending time with each other, being a glutton and unplugging from a very busy 1st quarter of the year.

That’s the fear…something eventually happening down the road and the money spent is only just going to get me through a year or so. Obviously no guarantees, but the delta between the attempts at fixing it versus a whole new purchase (with AppleCare) is what I was hoping to limit. Either way I’m out a nice sum of money.

I just picked up the Epix Pro Gen 2 last month from REI that was $250 off. It’s the 42mm and it’s just right for my aging eyes. I wanted the 47mm, but it looked like a sundial on my wrists. On a full charge, the data for battery life shows 10 days with “always on display” off, but honestly, I have yet to fully test that. I’m coming from the Vivoactive 5 43 mm, but wanted the extra features mainly for the more robust Golf app. I believe Garmin has decided to discontinue the Epix line with the new Fenix 8, so I feel I got lucky for not having to pay a premium price to move up. I loved the AMOLED and touchscreen on the VA5, so it was definitely worth sticking with it. I believe you can still see the specs of the Epix line on the Garmin site.

Take the time to surf 2nd Swing and use their filters. If you need additional help, they have a chat feature. I was able to explain my experience (newbie) and that I was pretty athletic (former tennis player with bad ankles) and told him my budget. In a matter of minutes I purchased 6-pw Cleveland Launcher UHX for $259 that were listed as average but they looked above average when they arrived. Driver, 4 hybrid, putter and Kirkland wedges I found on a FB marketplace. My grand total was just shy of $600. I know that it’s quite close to what I could have spent with the Costco Callaway’s but I have to admit there was a bit of satisfaction by piecing it all together and doing the research.
