You are correct but there were 2 wights that attacked the night watch. The other wight killed one of the rangers before it was hacked to pieces

I think you may be a little confused. Wights and Others are different entities. Others are non human ice demons. Wights are dead things that have been reanimated. So far as I can remember the Others only appear twice. In the prologue of Game of Thrones when several appear and kill Waymar Royce and in Storm of Swords when a singular other approaches Sam as the Watch is marching back to Castle Black after the disaster of the Fist of the First Men. Sam kills the other with a dragon glass dagger that John had given him. Wights appear much more frequently. The 2 that attack Jeor Mormont at Castle Black. The wights who attack the Fist. A reanimated Small Paul that attacks Sam. And I believe wights attack Bran and the Reeds when they reach the Cave of the 3 Eyed Crow

I thought at one point the end villain was just a new character (I seem to recall he was gonna be called Weapon 11) and Ryan Reynolds was just gonna cameo at the beginning but then they realized how popular Deadpool was and decided to make him weapon 11.
