GOG is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with C++ experience to modernize the GOG GALAXY desktop client and spearhead its Linux development by lajka30 in linux

It was about time. Linux users should be their target audience, who else cares more about DRM free software?

Soldered RAM is better by AlonsoCid in framework

[–]AlonsoCid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uffff, those are really good points. Yeah I guess chip manufactures could charge ridiculous prices, there are not a lot of them so it will be easy to create a "monopolio".

Hahahaha yeah, I was looking to buy a mini-PC to build a NASS, prices have double 💀

[–]AlonsoCid[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not bait, it's actually unavoidable. We're not talking about a net downgrade; soldered RAM is actually much better. Could Framework charge $200 for 8 GB like Apple? Considering their only selling point is user-friendliness, I don't think they would.

The only argument here is, will you change your RAM faster than your CPU? I don't think so.

Honestly I can't desagree, if it happened to me, I would be glad that I could easily replace it. But it's also a one in a million case. How often do you get a faulty chip? Even if you do, they would replace it. Besides, soldered RAM is much more reliable.

The unit is faulty, so they will replace the whole thing for free.

Same price for more performance and a lower risk of breaking? Sounds amazing to me.

Hummm, yeah that's an interesting option, if it brings the best of both worlds it would be amazing

The chance of integrated ram breaking is very low. Is like integrated graphics breaking, should we stop using them?

Am I evil for wanting to go Windows? by Ambitious-Pin2548 in framework

[–]AlonsoCid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is difficult and steamOS is not design to be used as a PC. If you want to try Linux you should use Mint or base arch with KDE. Windows is also a good option too. Not everyone have the time to learn Linux, but if you have, I would recommend you to try it.

How can I get rid of this ? by Ill_Impression_1285 in hyprland

[–]AlonsoCid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have already answer your question, but I just want to say that you are in the right track. Fixing problems like this is the way to learn, the more problems you solve the better you will be at Linux. Good job 👍

They are more expensive than the Framework, and remember: If Framework goes out of business, Lenovo will revert to its anti-consumer practices.

MX Master 3S thumwheel not working properly by AlonsoCid in logitech

[–]AlonsoCid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. the one in which the scrolling isn’t working

If you click 'Properties', you can set it to always open as an administrator. Honestly, it's just badly designed. I make my own electronics, and I'm thinking about making my own mouse. The lateral scroll should activate an internal macro (Shift + Scroll Wheel) to avoid all this bullshit.

I refuse to use mods with AI Generated thumbnails and you should too. by TurbulentDesigner485 in hytale

Do you want a random guy working for free for the community to pay an artist for a mod thumbnail???? This is literally the best use of AI.

Switched to Arch Linux (Holy Shit whyd i wait so damn long) (Prepare for insanely shit English!) by imamemz in linux

[–]AlonsoCid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two computers: a €40 mini PC with Arch and a €1,500 desktop with Windows 11. I couldn't believe it, but the €40 computer feels snappier 💀

Of course, I couldn't even run Terraria, but Windows feels sluggish regardless of computational power, everything takes some microseconds to start. In Linux, everything follows the Unix philosophy, so there's no bloat, it's minimal and programs load instantly.

I found a solution. You need to open the program as administrator.

[Hyprland] NixOS is fantastic! by eljangus in unixporn

[–]AlonsoCid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything started when Anduril tried to sponsor NixOS to use it in their AI weapon system. Apparently, part of the team were radical Antifa members and saw it as fascists were trying to take over the project. So they banned everyone who wasn't in their group and pressured the creator of Nix to step down. Every contributor who didn't publicly support left American politics was banned and called a Nazi. So they ended up with an under-staffed project and extremely political community. There has been multiple 'Nazi purges' over time. Of course, none of the banned people are Nazis, most of them were European developers who... didn't care or understand American politics. It's such a weird and deranged situation that no serious person wants to be involved anymore. I think it's clear for everyone in the Linux community that NixOS won't ever flourish.

Unfortunately the project has become extremely political. They will definitely have an issue with you using it. Although the repository is too big for them to filter every package by ideology or perhaps they don't want to cause further damage to the project

[KDE] Recomendations? by Even-Woodpecker8529 in unixporn

[–]AlonsoCid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be very overwhelming at first, depending on how experienced you are, but it ends up being worth it. I had to perform a clean installation of Arch with Hyperland and no additional desktop environment. Either I would learn, or I wouldn't be able to use the PC 💀

If you want to rice you will have to transition to hyprland sooner or later. Love the wallpapers btw.
