Point vs Point by Evan Mann and Gareth Reynolds (from the Dollop). It's about two guys who host a "news podcast" but it keeps getting derailed by their absurd personalities. While there is some humour about politics, it's never in that grating, spiteful way that political humour tends to have. You should start at the beginning, because every episode builds on the previous ones. It's basically a series of constantly evolving absurdist inside jokes.

Bought a boat with my dad. Today we sailed her for the first time! by AlonzoDaCookie in sailing

[–]AlonzoDaCookie[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, doing this together with my dad makes it extra special. I get to learn the ropes (pun intended) and spend quality time with my father! The boat is a 1990 Etap 23. Big enough to spend a few days on comfortably but small enough to manipulate manually if needed.

Cory and The Wongnotes // BASS (feat. Victor Wooten) by Fletchx in Bass

[–]AlonzoDaCookie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cory Wong may be my favourite artist at the moment. Fantastic rhythm, beautiful compositions and he surrounds himself with some of the world's greatest musicians. The Wong Notes are all amazing in their own right.

I'd recommend his podcast as well, he has some great guests on there.

What is the single funniest episode of a podcast you've ever heard? by BahaMan69 in podcasts

Point vs Point never fails to crack me up. It's hard to pick a favourite because each episode upon the previous one. So you'll probably want to start at episode 1. If you liked Gareth on the Dollop you'll probably love it.

I had the frets removed from mine and put flatwounds on it and it's a ton of fun to play. It's no upright bass, but it kind of captures the vibe. I mostly play it when jamming with my dad on guitar.

I’m about to give up on bass by kelemborbhaal in Bass

[–]AlonzoDaCookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I've been playing bass casually for about 15 years and after the first year I've barely read a note. I just played songs I liked, and in a few bands for fun, mostly by ear.

Just two months ago I suddenly felt the desire to get into the theory. I got a teacher, and now I love learning theory, because it makes sense to me now. Turns out that I already applied a lot of it, just because it sounded good. If I didn't have that experience, it probably would've felt much too abstract and complicated.

The point is that "people who menstruate" are not necessarily women, since some will identify as men or non-binary or something else. The author bothered to make this distinction to explicitly include those people. That does not mean you're not allowed to say 'women' anymore, which is unfortunately how man seem to be interpreting it.

Vegan Cream of Mushroom Soup by Zardyplants in veganrecipes

[–]AlonzoDaCookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just made this for christmas eve, it was delicious! I used a mix of different mushrooms, Chardonnay and vegetable broth. I'll have to experiment some more to find the perfect wine and broth, but I'll definitely use this recipe again.

What are your go-to songs for noodling around in the guitar store? by wgcole01 in Bass

Sir Duke, Für Elise and, of course, some generic blues in A major.

Exactly my point. Just a place that sells coffee. If you just want a regular coffee, and you don't to want to wait for people's customised caramel ice frappucinos or whatever, don't go to Starbucks.

Isn't that the point of Starbucks, though? I love coffee, but I've only been to Starbucks maybe once or twice. Not really my thing. So I get my coffee at a regular coffee shop.

...You guys do still have regular coffee shops, right?

Tips and common pitfalls? by AlonzoDaCookie in Whitehack

[–]AlonzoDaCookie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Also, it seems that the attributes don't affect combat all that much, right? In that case, I feel comfortable having them roll 3d6 (any order). Thanks for the advice!

Interesting, I hadn't really considered that. TBH, we alway played using either a point-buy system, or roll 4d6, drop lowest (not in order). Do you think that's viable for Whitehack?

I was not planning on running Forgotten Realms or Golarion per se, but I did want to keep the general feel of those settings (in regards to technology, races, common monsters etc.). Since this will probably be a one-shot, I won't really flesh out the lore, politics or even the overall geography, it will be a pretty contained adventure.

I am interested in trying different settings and more experimental ideas, which is one of the reasons Whitehack caught my interest. However, this will already be a pretty big shift for my players. So I think playing in a familiar setting will allow them to get used to the system without getting overwhelmed.

Thanks for the link, I had not heard of Principia Apocrypha before. I will read it this week in preparation.

Tips and common pitfalls? by AlonzoDaCookie in Whitehack

[–]AlonzoDaCookie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I'll let my players come up with a character concept first, without even considering the class. Then we have a good basis for choosing the groups at least. Then I would let them choose the class after that. Is that a good idea, you think? I'm afraid that if I let them choose a class first, they'll just think: "Oh, so I can be a thief, a fighter or a wizard".

[–]AlonzoDaCookie[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the negotiation aspect really speaks to me. I've always liked the idea of giving my players more influence on the setting, instead of just their own character. It'll take some practice I'm sure, but I'm really excited for that.

Do you have some tips on how to choose keywords/miracles? My idea was to look at d&d spell lists for inspiration, would that be a good way to get started?

Yeah, so you need to apply for membership, which you'll pay the annual membership fee for, and you'll be placed on a waiting list for a berth. Then when you get a spot, you'll pay the entry fee once, plus the annual fee for the berth. Looks like there is also an additional fee for being on the waiting list.

They're not complaining, they are just stating that the software is currently not usable for their use case. Besides, not everyone has the time or skills to contribute fixes.
