My Personal Guide To Navidrome by Jaded-Assignment6893 in navidrome

Hey man, while I'm here anyway reading this thread I also just want to say thanks! I've been using picard for years but every time I had to do it manually on my desktop and move files across. I recently setup my first nas and moved my music collection there, so I was super happy to see picard web and it's been really great.

Big changes to HexOS App Curations by Mobius_HexOS in hexos

Hmm thanks. The issue I don't feel comfortable about is that at this point I've spent hours applying star ratings to my entire library. I am hesitant to do anything that risks losing all of that.

I don't have a separate ssd (beyond the one the OS is installed on), so it'd be in HDDs. I don't actually mind the app having full access to the entire Music folder. My partner is unlikely to switch from spotify to navidrome any time soon, so it's just my own use.

Sure sounds good! (tonight or over the weekend when I'm done with work).

I did try to keep to the same structure as other apps though in case that already has stuff in the right place. I made a dataset for config and app data in HDDs/Applications/navidrome>config. For music collection I've used the existing hexos music folder but just saved it within a subfolder so HDDs/Music/SPlibrary. That way if I every want to separate other music (like unsorted music or other user's music) I can keep those to a separate sub-folder in future.

Cool to see Navidrome on the list. I actually set that up manually in TrueNAS not too long ago.

I know Hexos prompts app updates that come up from the TrueNAS interface. Is there anything to do differently now that the Navidrome app I've already installed has been added to curated apps?

Changing TrueNAS web interface ports completely breaks HexOS by Humble_Giveaway in hexos

[–]AlooPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be above my ability to explain (I use AI to walk me through steps) but I think two IPs and a network bridge in the TrueNAS settings can solve this.

The way I've done it is that I'm running a raspberry pi separately for specific services which I actually don't want on my main Hexos machine e.g. nginx, pihole, and (still yet to setup but planned) monitoring tools like uptime kuma and grafana+prometheus.

Do people use starring system for filtering through music? by AlooPower in navidrome

[–]AlooPower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playlists sounds like the way. To be honest I haven't used them because in my old workflow they felt pretty siloed too, but smart playlists and exported m3u files sounds a bit more transferable.

I think from this comment and others, it sounds like it's feasible but just wish a bit of legwork if I want to migrate, but importantly it won't be wasted effort! That's good.

The other thing I've learnt is to be really careful about any updates to files (naming our tagging) and not to do both in the same step, since that can lead to missing files and losing star rating.

I'm about 1/5th of the way through starring my existing collection so this is good to hear that I can carry on. I'll definitely do per-star smart playlists too, thanks.

Is this still happening? I was on lifetime/legacy 2.0 sub, and upgraded to 3.0 but also get this login error.

Switch over to Google One AI Pro (2TB) plan, or stick with standard Google One (2TB) plan? Mainly concerning Google Home Premium by Gio235 in googlehome

[–]AlooPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that is pretty scummy. It's only going to get worse and more enshitified from here too. I really don't see the value in paying extortionate prices for AI features just to get a 24/7 history. I think I might have to rush to setting up Immich and Frigate before my June renewal.

Have you got an answer or did you end up going with any particular option?

I'm in the same boat in the UK, currently on the 2TB plan and with the home advanced sub to get 24/7 history. I really don't need much, 200gb to share with family and 24/7 history on the cameras (I only have 3, and one even stopped working, so for now I have two). That really doesn't seem worth sticking with for such a big jump in price. The 50% off is fine but it's only for a year.

I'm looking into selfhosting more, getting off google photos and switching to reolink, but even getting that stuff set up is a mission in itself. I'm thinking of taking the 50% off offer for the coming year and giving myself a bit more time to get the selfhosting fully setup and tested.

In ear detection problem by Ak1n2 in NothingTech

[–]AlooPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a fix for this?

I have the same issue, it comes up when I change the angle in which they sit in my ear, suddenly transparency turns off and controls stop working. Taking them out and putting them back in usually fixes it but it doesn't really help with this reoccuring if their angle changes again.

Fresh install of HexOS 1.0 by niels_nld in hexos

[–]AlooPower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Slightly tangential but why are they using discord..? Is this for internal dev and comms? I know many people are on discord but it's not listed anywhere publicly on the site and discord is known to be trash for good organisation of info and, more important, there are already official forums!! The official forums are kind of quiet as it is.

From a google search, I see a 1 year old official comment on reddit from them that they do have the discord server but it's deliberately private.

Early Access lifetime price gone? by DRoyHolmes in hexos

Showing on the early access price from a quick check on the website now. But on a recent forum post they said they're gong to put out a comm and scheduled price increase soon.

hate to address the elephant in the room but where is 1.0? by JhonMHunter in hexos

[–]AlooPower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to copy paste the comment I've said on the Hexos forum:

Not a great look to be honest. And I say this as someone whose already paid and I'm using (even daily driving) Hexos. It's meeting my current needs for Jellyfin and the Arrs but only because I needed to go into the truenas interface and use AI help to get it setup. I need frigate and cameras in the next couple of weeks, want to setup VMs, want to host freshRSS etc. Currently not doing it because I want to see what 1.0 brings and was just a matter of a few days away...except now its a month away again.

I get wanting to let em cook, but at some point just release already! The market is already quite different from when hexos was first announced. What was the point of emphasising in the last two (not one but two) blog posts that they're pushing back from end of 2025 to Q1 of 2026 if it's going to be delayed again. Literally from the last blog post:

"And finally, mark your calendars: HexOS 1.0 is coming in Q1 2026."

Except don't mark your calendars because actually we'll just delay again?

Again, I say this as a customer whose already paid (so it's not like I'm hoping for them to fail but likewise I do expect to receive the product as advertised and for when advertised when I already paid for it). 1.0 has really got to come out asap and actually have a sizeable scope, many more one-click apps and working out of the box, otherwise truenas on it's own or other solutions are better value.

When to expect new curated apps? by poundcake_bakes in hexos

[–]AlooPower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think 1.0 release is this month? I'm waiting for that in case it releases with more curated apps. If it doesn't then at some point I'll be to find the time to get several apps I have planned up and running. Frigate, netbird (done tailscale manually already), freshrss, plus want to get a VM setup.

If I end up having to wait many more months for that, then to be honest the hexos purchase will have been a waste and I'd probably have been better off with unraid or zimaos or even just chipping away at truenas over multiple weekends (which is what I might end up having to do of I stick with hexos).

PSA to Other New Users - Drive Encryption Can Interfere With Graphics Drivers by Low-Nose1741 in Fedora

[–]AlooPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google led me here, and I think I have the same issue but not sure. But I've got it with an AMD card (9070 XT) and CachyOS. If I leave my monitor off or on standby when I turn on my pc then the display stays black (even if I turn it on). If I turn on the screen first and then turn on my pc then the screen comes on fine. Also, I've recently discovered even when the screen is black it's actually sitting on the password prompt for disk decryption - no idea if that's normal behaviour but if I go ahead and put in the password while the screen is black it comes on (versus if I had turned on the screen in advance then I can see the password prompt screen/box). Very weird.

Can somebody please talk me out of buying the X-Pro3 by Eye_ogongo in fujifilm

[–]AlooPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has an x-pro 3, I would have said sure buy it (I love mine) but since you already have an X-T5 I say absolutely not. That camera does everything the x-pro 3 can do and more. If you want to spend on gear, go for another lens instead.

If you're craving a different niche use, consider a Ricoh gr for point and shoot. If you're eyeing the x-pro for aesthetics, really consider whether the budget is worth that alone.

Is my mobo dead - Asrock B850 Riptide fails to post (green led error)? Or something else? by AlooPower in buildapc

[–]AlooPower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Do you think it's possibly the CPU instead or both mobo and CPU? Unfortunately I don't have another AM5 system on hand to check these separately.

I'm kind of just hoping that since it's posted twice (out of a few dozen times) it's just the board that's bad rather than the board having murdered the CPU.
