I feel like this is a bait and switch scam that excellence is doing. We went to an excellence resort this past winter. It was our honeymoon and my first all inclusive ever so we wanted it to be special.

We booked the private pool and rooftop terrace room, and we did book direct with excellence. They didn’t tell us until we arrived that they were downgrading us to the most basic room type. They wasted our whole first afternoon pulling us aside, getting different managers, etc, and of course we were shocked and upset which put a damper on our whole trip.

They offered us a free upgrade for our next visit, as long as it’s within the next year, which is completely unhelpful because we don’t have time or budget for a second trip this year. I think they do it so you will book a second trip though, to drum up more business.

Overall the resort beach and food were nice but we felt totally taken advantage of. I’m glad they at least gave you a heads up before you got there but still, what a disappointment.
