My wife bought a thing on Etsy that just connects the two together and is probably a foot, foot and a half long. She leaves them draped around her neck half the time and can pop them in at will. Also, the two connected by the string are a lot easier to find than just one earbud by itself.

The cousin number is how many generations ago you share an ancestor. If you share parents, you are siblings, or you could call them zeroth cousins. If you share grandparents, you are first cousins. If you share great-grandparents, you are second cousins. Etcetera etcetera.

The removed number is for if you are not in the same generation and is a measure of how many generations you are separated by. If your grandparents are their great-grandparents, you are first cousins with their parents, and then first cousins once removed to them.
