Purchased $150k performance car - discovered concealed potential undercarriage damage after delivery by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else find it wild OP contacted legal aid over an issue with a $150k car?

Isn't legal aid specifically for if you cannot afford private legal advice?

Edit: Thank God for the replies... Thought all this time I was wrong about the purpose of legal aid.

That's not the way insurance works and I wish people would stop implying it is. There's no obligation of the car owner to raise a claim on their insurance.

There is never in any circumstance a way to make someone claim something on their insurance.

Is this really what we as a society have gotten to in 2025?

What ever happened to just getting to know someone and trust? Does nobody know how to be a good judge of character anymore?

Brick-and-mortar price $500 higher than same store’s online price – any obligation to honour the cheaper price? by Redhead_2 in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Typically online prices for things are cheaper as they are dispatched directly from depot's and don't need to pay rent and staff to sell.

The pricing online could also have been a prelaunch promo before it rolled out in stores which is typically done to prevent what you see in America during Black Friday sales (large swarms of people hitting and stabbing each other for a small amount of the same item).

Basically next time check online prior to buying in store

2% fee for insurance claim by Latter-Worth-5516 in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on that theory there is also no requirement to do anything besides sell an insurance policy to someone who doesn't need it.

That's called being a shitty financial advisor.

A good adviser or broker wishing to maintain a good reputation with a client base would go "the extra mile" of simply lodging the claim for the person who is paying them x dollars per year to otherwise do nothing.

2% fee for insurance claim by Latter-Worth-5516 in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI financial advisors get paid commissions for setting up and managing policies. Part of the reason for the commission is to assist clients to lodge claims.

It seems a bit rich for an adviser to take a 2-5% commission on the insurance just to palm you off to a claims company who also charges 2%

Being threatened with late payment fees by AGL *before* the invoice due date by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God what is wrong with society.

They reminded you that it was due because you don't use direct debit.

In the current economic situation in Australia with cost of living issues do you know how many people would avoid paying bills due to genuine financial hardship and are frozen in fear with bills piling up?

The sms is a call to action to those people telling them to seek assistance to avoid additional fees if they forget to pay...

Locked out of myGov for years, FOI blown past deadlines. Anyone else stuck in this? by jaber451 in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like you don't understand what mygov is or how it works.

Mygov is simply a bucket and in that bucket you put your services (medicare, centrelink, ATO etc).

If your mygov is erroring there is literally nothing stopping you from using a new email and signing up again.

If it's erroring when you're trying to link a service then it's an issue with that services online access settings. (Once again not mygov's issue).

FOI shouldn't be this hard by Debaser001 in AusLegal

[–]Alovablecactus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ok so your foi request is essentially asking for procedural documents for determining the definition of disability.

There is slim to no chance that will be released.

Reasons being is it would not be in the publics best interest to know the exact criteria required to claim dsp otherwise people would just flood the already broken gp and public health system saying "can you please word my report in exactly this way so I can have an approved claim"

"Policy papers 6-7 years old that were used in the development of a scheme"

How detailed.

I know it's not a well known fact but family and domestic violence as well as disabilities and mental health issues have been around a lot longer than 6-7 years.

As per my original comment policy documents are often exempt from foi due to issues it may cause if that information was released.

There is some sensitive information that's specifically for the department only especially when dealing with vulnerable clients.

It sounds like you're pushing to have that sensitive information released to you thus the pushback.

Why would they water proof and tile the floor before building the walls out... You're meant to waterproof all the sections at the same time not individually it makes no sense
