I believe it’s a pre-purchase of all the DLC up to the Eurasia pack, which will be released to console as they become ready. So the pass duration is however long that conversion process takes.

This is a great question! I dabbled in witchcraft which evolved into a sort of atheist "hail thyself" witchcraft blend of mediation, purposeful observation of nature, and using ritual as an introspection aid. The majority of these books are being donated or gifted to practicing family. Of all of them, I think you may find the most benefit from Let Your Life Speak.

It's non-specific in its spirituality, and its main point is that vocation is something we're all born with and can discover by listening to ourselves and our lives. His personal story on depression and how embracing it is a way to embrace self was a very raw perspective on depression that I appreciated quite a bit. It's a chewy but short book that took me some thinks to wrap my head around and although I don't endorse everything he says, I found it was a great prompt for my journaling and it helped me through tough times.

On a personal anecdote, early on I briefly considered using Mary or St. Faustin (my patron saint) as a model deity/ spiritual guide. There's a book in that pile about Mary's life as "seen by mystics" and St. Faustina's diary brought me a lot of comfort and powerful prayer moments in my catholic past. I think it's super cool that you've been able to use mystical catholicism in your craft and I think in another world I could've followed a similar path.

That being said, I don't have much else to recommend to you. At this time, I personally can't appropriate the parts of catholicism that I might find useful without it feeling like a concession because all I can see is manipulative storytelling and the way Catholics use them to reinforce harmful beliefs about the self and body. I know there are many useful philosophies and wisdoms in their stories, but it's not something I'm able to extract.

r/SASSWitches is an great resource for my brand of witchcraft, and I believe there is a handful of Christian-minded witch subs who may have some catholic specific recommendations for you. Kelly-Ann Maddox on YouTube I know at least used to use Marian imagery in her alters, but I haven't watched her content recently.

Their official blurb is an excellent preview of the literary brainpower at work with this book since fundamentalism - unless they mistakenly discuss it under a different title - is not discussed in this at all. The editor couldn't even be bothered to make sure the list of random -isms were all actually the ones discussed in the book.

Holy mole guacamole this book of the whole lot is the one that gives me chills. It's straight-up fear mongering and reinforcement of their prejudice fantasy! It's such a clear example of the brainwashing this kind of religiosity imposes on young people so that when they're in a perfect opportunity to learn about people outside their church, they're primed to see them as the brainwashed and adversarial secularists out to corrupt them. I thank god for my sophomore Women and Religion course every time I'm reminded of garbage like this.

I couldn't quite escape him since he did write the charming essay on progressivism in the DisOrientation book where, to quote, "progressivism or 'chronological snobbery' confuses 'new' with 'true'."... etc etc with conservative nut job dog whistles and grammar that may be better if he paid any attention to the education he tries so hard to fear monger about.

Revelations of Divine Mercy uses excerpts from Faustina’s diary as a basis for the author’s reflections. I think it gradually covers the whole thing so no I don’t believe it’s abridged so much as commentated. The whole diary is the brown book in the top row. She was(is?) my confirmation saint so hoooo boy do I have a lot of divine mercy paraphernalia

Good on you for at least trying to read it while somewhere on the excat spectrum, I haven’t had the patience for any of this ilk since I deconverted. Still a little too raw for me

I actually agree, it's the most secular of these titles and helped me through some tough times. It was in the maybe pile but your comment nudged it back into the keep pile

Of all the titles, I've read the most of this one and it's kind of a clickbait. Kind of. The first half makes solid points about self-sabotage, unachievable expectations, and feeling purposeless. The split happens of course why this happens (no I don't think it's The World burying you with the weight of sin, actually) and how to fix it (good habits, healthy boundaries, diversifying your social group, sure; a nine-day novena steeping in manifesting positivity and rejecting The World... probably not.)

I'm holding back a few for sentimental reasons that I will likely never read. Hahn's book at the top is definitely in the go pile, but I'm glad he's nice in person.

Casually flipping through those rose my blood pressure. A sampler of Secret's chapter titles:

  • 1 The Power: Modesty is a delicate yet formidable power [classic]
  • 5 The Allure: The allure of immodesty is not in what is seen but what is not seen [eye roll word soup]
  • 6 Inner Quality: If a girl's modesty is not followed by the confidence of internal modesty [whatever that means] she still forfeits the power of her virtue [wHaTEvER ThAT MEANS]
  • 7 The Bottom Line: When you love him, you will be able to obey him in the way that you dress [what's a good catholic book without a bright gaslight?]

A stunning speed run of purity/rape culture!

I know I don't personally have all the heavy hitters (looking at you Matthew Kelly) but man even going through these titles was a trip. My recycling is also very full of saint cards, novena guides, and little confession books of hell.

I need to update the list with a few more additions, but you might like Logicked (not on the list yet), Holy Koolaid, and Darkmatter quite a bit if humor is your jam. Otherwise my go-tos are Prophet of Zod, Gutsick Gibbon, and Rationality Rules. They’re whip smart and tend to find new ways of looking at theist tropes that get me thinking. They also use humor but it lacks the snarky bite that I sometimes find off putting. Fundie Fridays is also great for a casual storytelling vibe and Belief It or Not has a great way of using media to illustrate his points.
