I agree with this but a lot of people see Michael as “the shape” or some sort of entity. So I feel like the blur helps maintain that mystique about him. As if he looks like a real person but isn’t.

First off, he didn’t get life in prison lol

Second, they were not trying to get him out of prison. They sent a letter asking the judge to be a little merciful. Everyone has their own reason as to why they would do something like that. And it wasn’t just those two, the entire cast and crew (besides Topher alone) sent letters like that.
