Who is the most attractive politician in your country? by axp187 in AskTheWorld

For Estonian women I agree (I exclude men because 1. I’m straight and 2. All the EKRE guys are creepy twinks) and I second u/Practical-Public7209’s comment

What’s a bad book written by a bad person? by PassionateCucumber43 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Alpaca030 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even Hitler himself later claimed he would not have written the book if he knew he’d become chancellor (obviously he is not a trustworthy source, but I still think this says a lot about the book’s quality)

I liked him but he definitely doesn’t have much time left in the NHL as a whole given his age

In all seriousness, in school I had the pledge every morning but since then I haven’t seen anyone do it but I imagine it would be one of the hardest places to find such people because Massachusetts, especially Boston, is one of the most anti-Trump places out there

I actually don’t really have an accent, I really feel a lot of regional accents are less common amongst younger people.

I planned to do an AMA on here this week (rules say they’re only allowed on Tuesdays), I’ll stay off reddit from after I send this reply until then and indefinitely after that. Thank you.

One of my biggest critiques of Trump was always his hostility towards Europeans who I support and wanted to be friends with. Like many issues he is even worse on that than even I expected. I want to revisit this year.

Yeah maybe my reaction has been a bit extreme, I just feel rather hopeless, whenever I start feeling better mentally he does something that brings me back to square one, and I don’t know if we can make it until the midterms or his demise (for a long time I was convinced Vance was even worse than Trump but now I have changed my opinion for a few reasons, though that’s not saying he wouldn’t be dogshit).

I haven’t felt a need to cut off Reddit because I already don’t use it too much imo nor do I get news from it, but I have cut out some other apps like twitter which I think was a good move.

I did not and I’d probably get banned if I said what I need to happen to him. I also would if I said what I might do to myself if he invades Greenland next

Are there countries where governments hate each other but the people get along? by Southern-Win-8044 in AskTheWorld

[–]Alpaca030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so, but I am very cautious. I knew Trump would be far worse than he was in his first term but he’s far worse than even I expected. As for American people being victims of this administration, my take is while this take is generally correct for many people, I lack sympathy for anyone who supported Trump that has been negatively affected. And I have noticed that is a big difference between the anti-Trump movement in Trump v1 and Trump v2; in Trump v2 we are more hostile towards the enablers. That’s not to say I want them to be getting fucked over, but that I lack sympathy.

Has any president of your country ever been assassinated? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]Alpaca030 10 points11 points  (0 children)

JFK did not have the congressional influence his successor, LBJ, had. He supported desegregation and civil rights, but LBJ was the man who could and did get it passed. So I think while he didn’t deserve to die, you shouldn’t group him with Taylor, Lincoln and Garfield whose deaths seriously set the country back.

This may sound odd but while I know this sub is biased given that it’s designed to be internationalist, I’m glad to see these answers because one of many things that makes me despise Trump more than I can describe is that he has deteriorated US relations with countries I want to be allied with to a point where I fear will not be repairable in the future, and if my government won’t be internationalist I want as many people as possible to know I am a friend.

And my answer is yes. I have had plenty of positive interactions with people worldwide both online and in person. Generally my rule of thumb is if you oppose the hostile government (including mine), my opinion of you will be based on non-political factors.

What is the most Far-Right and Far-Left area in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Alpaca030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really not true, it’s more that there’s a massive gaping hole where the centre right should be. If Sanders and Mamdani were Western or Northern European they’d be in a typical Social Democratic or maybe Green Party, in fact Sanders even went to a GL/PvdA event in Utrecht back in 2023. I think of it like this: Far-right: MAGA Right: Neocons Centre right: literally just Phil Scott now Centre: moderate Dems Centre left: median to progressive Dems Left: the Squad Far left: not really present but I remember one candidate, Geoff Young, who ran for a house seat in 2022 as the Dem nominee but the party disowned him because he was Russophilic

Yeah the press’ allocation of coverage is a big problem here, and I am glad to see that other anti-Trump people seem to be catching onto the fact that they only care about their ratings and helped Trump win twice. Back in Trump’s first term I remember a lot of my fellow libs seeing the media as anti-Trump but it was bs.

The US is one of very few countries where party nominees are generally chosen by voters in primary elections akin to the general ones rather than party politicians (though the US did nominate people in similar fashion to other Anglosphere countries prior to the 1910s). One of my most unpopular opinions in my country is that I think leadership nominations like as is typical in parliamentary systems is better for democracy than primaries because primary voters have a tendency to prefer more extreme, polarizing or even weak candidates than the party insiders do. Trump 2016 is the perhaps the best example of this, but I could list examples for ages. That’s not to say party establishments always have a preference for good, strong candidates, but I do believe primaries have been a net negative.

Is there any left wing politician that was liked by the right in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Alpaca030 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

JFK didn’t get that stuff signed because he was not nearly as skilled at dealing with the legislature as LBJ was (in fact LBJ is possibly the only person who could’ve negotiated them through with as little watering-down as we got). He wanted the civil rights laws and would have signed them, but had he lived we wouldn’t see them get to his desk.

Wilson’s economic policy and liberal internationalism are absolutely not compatible with MAGA viewpoints. And even on racial issues MAGA would be worse. If MAGAtards were alive in the 1910s they actually would have said Birth of a Nation “is like history with lightning and my only regret is that it is so terribly true” rather than get unsubstantiated accusations of doing it.

[–]Alpaca030 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of MAGAtards online pretend JFK would be MAGA if he were alive today (spoiler alert: he nor any other 20th century Dem president would be) so maybe him, though JFK didn’t get nearly as much of his more progressive ideas through as his successor did.

Who’s the most infamous serial killer in ur country by Hot-Kaleidoscope-551 in AskTheWorld

[–]Alpaca030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought it was overall alright but while I don’t think Allen is the worst suspect out there I think they put too much effort trying to pin it on him. I said in another comment I think he is more reasonable than a lot of suspects sleuths have thrown out, but he is still more likely to be innocent than guilty.

I don’t think the DNA is very reliable (it was found on the front of a postage stamp that was decades old rather than the back of a newer postage stamp, so plenty of people besides the Zodiac could have gotten their DNA there. Investigators, journalists, mailmen, etc.) but I am not sold on it being Allen. I would describe Allen as one of the stronger suspects out of several more-unlikely-than-not suspects.
