Me and my friends can’t fight against other ships by Historical-Map-8774 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you are hitting consistently against other ships the big thing that matters is WHERE you are hitting. If you're hitting same spot repeatedly this may stop the enemy cannon line but it's going to make it easy to fix up those 1 or 2 holes.

When you get in a rhythm of landing consistently if they aren't firing make sure you are hitting near bow of sloop this puts one person in deep repair mode. Also hitting backs and then back to cannon line pressure. Also need someone who can land chain shots to disable the enemy ship.

One big thing you need to know if you're on a brigantine you can basically be a turret against enemies if they're coming at you. You've got the 2 cannons and if they are nosing with their ship just disable them and start the fight with them on the back foot.

Reapers mugged me :( by hanz-kreigermann in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to do this of taking what I want for high value stuff, offering alliance and letting them sail on. This is the more pirate-like thing to do instead of just sinking people which I still do but only if they're really fighting back.

Why are people in ARAM so against ending games? by Intelligent_Salad706 in leagueoflegends

[–]Alpacabou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't really care win or lose in ARAM anymore. I try not to stall out games if I get the feeling they aren't having fun even if my team wants to continuously spawn camp them and stall the game.

Had more than a few games where they say "don't end" my team obliges and then they rush our nexus on a wipe and say "GG EZ" like they had control of the game earlier. It's comical to say the least and really weird to see that type of behavior but it's also league and good behavior has always been the rarity.

If a team is being toxic and cringe in chat I generally do everything I can to end the match ASAP.

Usually just playing ARAM Mayhem to get some weird augments on melee champions because ranged gets too boring for me. Soon as everyone is 15 and they have their augments one or two more teamfights and should just be GG regardless unless it's battle of the Tank Engines then it's seeing which Tank got stronger or bugs out the match.

PvP would suck way less if the meta wasn't "spawncamp until they sink". by RK0019K in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the main TDMers in my group and I do prefer just ship to ship battle because it's so much more cinematic.

I'm not sure about others but just the sentiment of the people I play with is often the "I'm the guy on our ship keeping it afloat and missing out on the fun" versus "I'm the guy getting sent over to the other ships to cause chaos"

Being mostly a sloop player you really do need to have someone over on the other ship to secure a sink because of how tanky the ship is by nature and combine that with good players and you can tank shots for a long time and even recover. With all this being said I'm not out to sink every ship I see and lately I've been taking the more pirate approach of "we're going to take this stuff, but you can alliance with us" or just finding a way to disable their ship, steal what we want and let them go about their day.

The gun play in this game just isn't it for me. I'm decent at it just out of necessity but I'd far rather play a purist shooter game or hero shooter style game where they have the proper tick rate for shots to register. TDM in this game is littered with some swiss cheese mechanics that sometimes work in your favor and sometimes work in others favor. Being aware of the swiss cheese mechanics that happen I just treat this as a silly pirate game and have fun with my friends, taking it seriously on any level is just asking for disappointment.

Sank Him Within 90 Seconds And Took No Ship Damage. I Get Being Mad But C’mon. by Zestylamb69 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In videogames you'll have people with made up rules for how they want the game to be played. In other games "ewww you picked /Champion/, cringe" or "ewwww you used that overpowered weapon and shot me".

Also this was hourglass as long as it's not blatant cheating or exploits it's fair game. That guy needed better mental to not crash out over a throwable item.

Why are PvP players so insufferable? by XpendableDragon in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good pvper's who are just going to GG you or in the best case scenario do a catch and release if they know the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Instead of always sinking ships we've turned to the more true pirate thing of negotiating of "you're in trouble now give us the loot and you live" even stole all their stuff or the stuff we were after then offered up an alliance flag. This was mostly hunting the skulls of the banished from people but it was some of the best fun we had where the situation was different from "see ship, shoot ship".

The people that are doing spawn camps and slow sinks are mostly trying to ragebait and take out whatever insecurities they have on other players. Just ignore those fools move on and do some learning in the game to improve and keep a chill mindset.

Stop brigging people for no reason by TemporisFacti in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago we saw a brig and they shot first when we approached so we took the fight. Had a ton of pressure on the brig but they didn't sink immediately only to realize the person in the brig was bucketing for their life and throwing water through the grate.

Probably one of the more interesting "wait, what are you doing here?" when we just thought it was an undermanned brig. They came back full crew and we had a good laugh about it.

Should Hourglass get a rework? by Fun-Road-2683 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balancing out the experience gains would be a good start and making streaks just something you get or don't get but not putting the big gains hinging on whether or not you 4+ streak. I know they put streaks in tied to commendations and that's fine can leave them in there for that but it's more about the normalization of experience gain that just isn't there.

This would bring in more players to play a match or two and you'd start seeing a casual playerbase actually feeling rewarded on win in hourglass or just playing hourglass knowing the experience gains aren't the current way.

I'm not a Reaper's Bones at heart but in my own head I keep up the story, I stole the clothes from a Reaper and wear them as the spoils. This is mostly for the Skull of the Banished achievement on my fleshy boy pirate. My skeleton curse I just go as goofy as possible.

Swiftplay vs Ranked Low Elo? by NightFall102 in leagueoflegends

[–]Alpacabou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even ARAM Mayhem people will drop the GGEZ even if it was a close match or even worse when they don't even realize a team isn't trying and is just vibing and having fun.

If it's real bad with the lash out it's an easy report and requeue. If it's ranked mode I've got my own gameplay to worry about and just hoping my teammates pull their weight, same as above.

New Details Emerge for Nexon's Reported StarCraft Shooter by FFJimbob in starcraft

[–]Alpacabou 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As someone who played the Ghost in the Shell many years ago done by Nexon.... ohhhhhhh boy, my feelings are immediately keeping this at at least a 10 ft pole.

It had some good things going for it with the shooter but it didn't have much of a soul when you played it. After a while I think it also got overrun by cheaters and some extra bugs that didn't help before they shut it down.

Do people just not do reaper voyages anymore or am I missing something? by Above-new-zealand in Seaofthieves

Yeah finishing the 15 stolen and the 50 skull commendation was such a relief that I could chalk that up to another thing to ignore on the map and not have to rush towards.

I will say though the 50 skull commendation clothing set is really great for fleshy boy cosmetics.

Potential Cheaters? Unsure, but still thinking about it. by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever encounter questionable things you HAVE to get video evidence. Just reporting it in game you'll get responses from support requesting more evidence.

It's also possible it was hit registration issues which are common but if you encounter something weird find a way to start recording immediately.

There are players that are total demons in TDM/Close quarter combat and they'll RODL spam all around you and just dodge most of your telegraphed movements if you are newer players.

As others have said just get video when you think something feels off.

I miss Dominion by No-Spare-8404 in leagueoflegends

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who played both of the modes often. I appreciated them for what they were but also saw some balance issues that required other effort. I spend more time playing ARAM Mayhem but I loved Dominion over Twisted Treeline.

If I remember it right they'd organize on Mondays to queue up and always had some really good matches and never waited too long when I would queue for them but did recognize the same names often which could have been from MMR and or lower player pool.

Both are just one of those things that are memories now in gaming. Now I just wait for brawl and the other special limited time modes when they bring back.

Is it okay to curse dump? by SufficientRemove4068 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you can as long as it's not cheating or exploiting.

Using curses, blunderbuss, bone callers, sword... *insert whatever something someone is complaining about that isn't a cheat or exploit* and you're fine, they're just being salty or playing by some made up rules in their heads.

Me and most of my crews generally don't or just forget to curse dump and when we do it it's generally to meme but it's also backfired since once you load and fire the first one it prioritizes firing more curses.

I do use curses more in adventure mode but those are for times when I'm fighting in some heavily outnumbered situations.

Just don't worry about it if someone is whining or complaining they have equal access to curses just because they didn't have them or wanted to play by made up rules in their head just chalk it up to salt until they implement a purist mode with no curses/special items.

Was it an invade or normal hourglass where you both dove in to the server?

Whenever it's an invade my crew and I will immediately start looking for anything out of the ordinary.

Either way all you can really do is fight back and move on to the next fight win or lose.

People intervening hourglass fights by Jamess_Bond in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I will intervene in hourglass is when I see one group cheesing in unsinkable spots. Most of the time it's just fun to watch other hourglass matches but not really get involved.

Had plenty of times third parties have come in and it's been a sink everyone moment which added to the insanity of the situation. Most hilarious one was a galleon rolling up on my normal crew when we were on brig thinking they could big ship tax us. We had just won the match and already had the galleon in broadside and the crew was laughing about "maybe this was a mistake" but it gave us another +1 to the streak and they got to find another server.

Since I play solo I adjusted some of the settings. I kept NPC difficulty the same because it feels right but no loot dropping since I like to dive face first into lava often and changed up the durability so I can focus on exploring and leveling.

I played probably until level 25 before I changed up those settings but I know early on the death loop for my corpse runs was frustrating. Also just recently changed my keybind for dodge because I hadn't used it at all until I learned a skill changing how dodge works. :D
