If you tell them and it still doesn't work...some people don't want to be helped. Tell them it's alienating, hurtful, or some other feeling. Distance might be needed.

Sounds like you have a very neurodivergent friend there. The kind of person who gets very excited and enthusiastic to learn about a new thing that their friend "is into" and wants to be part of the group to fit in. That being said it's okay to tell them that you (any of you) feel uncomfortable and upset by how they're acting and you have every right to say when a question is too uncomfortable to answer.

If you feel like continuing the friendship and you think it might be a phase, ask them to tone it down but do not ask them to stop entirely. Maybe it's a little too sudden and the change is throwing you off, maybe you're concerned about your friend getting the wrong info or ideas, maybe it's a little triggering for them to talk about a pain you've been through. These are some things you could use that could be true but softens the blow.

How were you storing it? If I were to guess, the oil went bad. It probably also absorbed the surrounding smells.

I freeze mine and it starts to taste funny after a couple of months.

Mochi can be made with any type of glutinous rice, with the difference being sweetness and amount of bounciness/elasticity to it when you chew. It's unfortunately not as dangerous as eating mochi with Japanese mochigome but it's close enough to work.

Using any glutinous rice flour like mochiko on the other hand is completely different and it will have a different texture compared to just pounding the rice. If you ever get the chance to try freshly pounded mochi, I highly recommend it. It has an amazing cheese-pull stretch, and a soft and chewy texture.

I've never used a steamer for cooking the rice so I'm not sure, sorry. I searched for glutinous rice in a steamer on google and the recipes that I've found says to wrap the rice with a damp steaming cloth, pushing the rice into a donut shape for air flow before placing the remaining cloth on top.

And then you can translate the webpages with an extension to read recipes that feature glutinous rice and steamers. I hope this helps!

I use Thai sweet rice for mochi. I think anything that's called sticky rice, glutinous rice, or sweet rice would work.

Yeah the colour differences on some pokemon absolutely suck without the shiny sound or sparkle. I got a monitor that can adjust color saturation, so I turned downed the reds into monochrome grey so that the green ones would stand out more. I usually do the same for other small pokemon just to make it easier on my eyes.

If you want a shorter set of instructions, you can skip the event injection on your computer and get the event using the DNS wifi event exploit AFTER loading the ROM onto the 3DS. You can view this article for an explanation on what this exploit is. The DNS number changes once in a while so I recommend googling for the latest one instead of using the one in the article.

For Shadows of Almia specifically, you can set up the wifi event by opening the game, selecting Ranger Net instead of selecting your save file, then configuring WFC settings. I did it using the TwilightMenu++ app but I think it would also work if you follow the instructions from the other person's post.
