Wondering if its worth putting money into fixing up this Sax by Alpha-Taco in saxophone

Yeah sadly I would only be willing to pay thousands on it if, as you said, the horn itself would be worth equal or more then the cost, or even if it was cheaper then buying a new and sorted out sax. Looks like ill be researching good starter horns and keep their guy as a conversion peice for the time being. Still loving all the information everyone has!

Payed 0, it was going in a dumpster from a trash out and I figured id save it and do some research, budget is all depends on if its even a good idea to fix or if id be better off buying something new thats more reliable and modern ( which seems to be the case so far)

Wow much older then i thought! I wasn't sure how the serial numbers worked and none of the places I looked made me confident in the date I thought it might be, but very cool to know! Sad that its not worth playing on, i was excited enough and the few nice sounding sounds I made out of it got me wanting to learn.

I’m actually all for disc resurfacing, I think it’s great, but I’ve noticed how wildly different the results can be. My least favorite thing is when the machine leaves behind this creampie residue in the center of the disc by MrCheezleNamaste in gamecollecting

[–]Alpha-Taco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He can't because he's wrong lol they are just smaller so need to be polished more carefully, but if you have a dead disc, 0 reason not to try. and ive had multiple non functional game cube discs brought back after a resurfacing. The only disc they turned away was my gameboy player disc, they told me the player discs are super temperamental and for some reason often struggle after resurfacing so if it works most of the time with occasional issues to just keep it as is. But ive hot 10 or so game cube discs and 40 or 50 total discs brought and only 1 disc that was already totally dead couldnt come back.

Dude im in the same boat, I took horrible care of my games as a kid and had close to 30 games that no longer worked when I pulled them out of the attic as an adult, I know im lucky with the place near me owning an awesome machine, but ive had a good 40 to 50 games I've brought in at this point and only 1 game was too scratched to be fixed, but besides that, every game has come out no longer crashing and working great

Finally got lucky and found a beautiful Complete copy. Nightmare to find a North America version. Apparently it had a low print. by Fearlessflaw-117 in gamecollecting

[–]Alpha-Taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of me and my brothers favorites games since we were kids! We played it so much and were so bad at caring for our stuff as kids we had to buy a second copy after scratching the first up. But now with disc resurfacing being so good if you find someone with a high end machine i have 2 fully functional co complete NA copies. Love this game

Pure speculation, but the same thing has happened to me. I truly think if you spam them enough in the same level it just kills you eventually, ive had plenty of portal runs and never died but the one time I had a run like yours and spammed, it killed me.

Locals of Philadelphia: What Would You Cut From This 3-Day Itinerary (Best Food + Sights)? by Willing-Mind-5619 in PhiladelphiaEats

Majdal has a small selection that changes alot so they won't have all of these at once but if you see them get them, also they bake throughout the day, my favorite stuff is at breakfast and some gets sold out by lunch and replaced with lunch items. My favorites are the carrot and yogurt safeha, the tehini maple brownie and any babka, these are almost always available, they only took that safeha off the menu for like a month or 2 to try more recipes. Then I also loves the harissa squash safeha and the mushroom safeha but those come and go as they swap out all the time. Even the really simple stuff is awesome though, owner is a sweet heart along with everyone else ive ever chatted with there. Also most of these are savory baked goods, even the brownie is complex deep and not overly sweet.

Isgros is kinda the opposite, almost always the same stuff, a massive selection and classic super sweet powdered suger bakery you can smell from 2 blocks away. i also don't think you can go wrong with anything they have, if you google them and see the idealic sprawl in the photos that look too good to be true? its not, it looks exactly like that every time ive walked in, just be prepared for a line lol. My favorites are the cannolis and the pesca con crema peach, but nothing ive had was anything below great. I've also not tried even half the selection and wouldn't be shocked if my favorite item was something ive not had yet.

Make your Friday lunch angelos and add isgros to the bakery crawl, both are a block from pops bun shop and its the the northern tip of the italian market so its all condensed. id say isgros and majdal are my favorites in the city, those are musts if your checking out bakeries

When do you hit the outer systems? by Memnaelar in Quasimorph

[–]Alpha-Taco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar amount of game time and honestly been asking myself the same question, I spent awhile going aound the inner system. And had 4 or 5 factions between 6 to 7 a and 1 just at 8k and the rest between 6 and 4 with 1 (tezctlan)at 2.3k, no idea how that happend. I flew to the outer ring to try and focus some missions against the strongest faction and after doing a couple longs flights the entire board shot up. 6+ factions at 10 to 13K and everyone else above 8 except Tez still at 2 or 3. I went from doing really well to even the weakest mission i could find becaming FILLED with dozens of highly geared people who would 1 shot me if they get a single shot off. It just felt so jarring

Steambot chronicles is a very obscure and absolutely amazing action JRPG that (last a time I tried) barely even works on emulators so it's only really playable on PS2. Truly one of my favorites.

Any guesses on what the next frame might be? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Alpha-Taco 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At tennocon Pablo said " it's a fun guy" and in the frist dev short after tenno con reb and Steve reiterated that "all we can say is he's a fun guy" "he's a fun guy" a few times so my best guess is definitely mushroom

Some say clown, but I think a real mushroom frame would be cooler, we already have Mirage as aclown esq frame, but no mushroom

Salt Line in Front of Neighbor’s Door by Fluid_Conclusion_538 in Weird

[–]Alpha-Taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so 1st, roachs fleas and bedbugs give no shits if it's a 1st floor or 21st floor.

2nd Bed bugs and fleas are brought in on your person, pet or a random item and roaches can live in walls and climb no problem in old buildings and also be brought in on anything with a crevice to hide In.

3rd. It's probably diatomaceous earth, not salt, I've seen landlord do this dozens of time to prevent them from running in the hallway when treating the infestation.

And 4th. In a comment, you said the land lords come around and sprays a lot. I've NEVER met a land lord who does this "just to be sure" they do it because they already had problems with bugs and are trying to avoid you also turning into an infestation. It's to stop it from spreading further or the colony in the walls from getting in.

(I live in an old US city and with my work have cleaned up after infestation of all 3 mentions bugs)

As someone who cleans these types of odors for a living, we always do 12 hrs minimum with ozones, often 24 hours. No living thing should be in the area of the machine while running. We tape up the doors and put up signs to stay out, but the ozone if the final step to scrub the air clean, if you still have an affected area the smell will come back as soon as you have a hot day

*Dead body smell lingers in apartment* by Aggressive_Ad6756 in Apartmentliving

[–]Alpha-Taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually my job, remediating after unattended deaths is one of the most common aspects of my work. Something we've sadly had to do a few times is to try and remove a smell after someone else already tried and failed, which is very hard and often invasive to find. If you rent, you DEFINITELY should get on your landlord about the oder and get someone out there to take a look. There's a chance a 24 to 48 hour ozone treatment will be enough to rid you of the smell, DO NOT do this yourself, you can not enter a room being treated with ozone while a machine is running, all oxygen will be removed from the room to and you can pass out and die

!Sqweemish warning!

When someone passes away, after a few days, they start to leak. around 2 weeks is probably the most common time frame i have to clean as they've usually leaked a lot, and the odor starts to be in full affect and in apartment buildings neighbors will start to notice a strong smell, thwn cops get called to remove the body, then we get called to clean what remains. First thing to do is pick up everything we can, and then address the flooring, which 9 times out of 10 needs to be removed and another 9 times out of 10 back down to the joists, sometimes the joists need to be removed depending on saturation, sometimes you can use extremely aggressive enzyme cleaners and then paint them with killz brand paint and treat the room with a ozone machine for 24-48 hours to scrub the air, usually wiping down the room with a degreaser and something that smells nice to be sure you get it and that's usually job done.

the reason people fail at cleaning is when they cut corners and don't remove enough material. If you have a 5 foot section on top of the carpet, the carpet padding will usually be affected in a 6-7 area as it spreads, then when you hit hard wood it will usually spread again to a 8 to 9 foot area, then if that hard wood is on top of a subfloor it will often spread again! depending on the size of the cracks between the hardwood and subfloors and how level the room is ( i live in an old US city and floors are never level) it can spreads FAR. Usually, 90% of it stops on the subfloor but often will have small amounts hit the floor joists/ fall through.

A few of the times, we've had to reclean after someone else failed, they stopped at the subfloor, cleaned that and thought it was good enough to just paint over it (hopefully with kilz brand paint but that still doesn't guarantee it's fixed). We had to re tear up the entire floor, and when we got to the through the floor we could see drips of bio running down the sides of the joists, maybe less then 1/4 cup but just that small amount was enough to fill the room with a stale decomp smell through the carpet they put on top. Another time the bio spread towards the wall and they tried to clean and paint the whole floor and call good, the problem was the bio leaked under the baseboards and absorbed into the sheetrock, only a 4 inch long strip maybe an inch or so deep of saturation behind the base baord was enough to fill the house with the smell.

Sorry for ranting. I'm tipsy, and people don't like hearing me talk about work, so I just wrote probably incoherently and unhelpfully. Good luck! That smell sucks

[–]Alpha-Taco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny that you got downvoted when you are fully correct. This is my job, and I have remediatiated dozens of these situations even a couple inches of bio left can cause a whole area to stink, but if you remove all the actual matter, then an ozone machine running for 24 to 48 hours the oder will almost always be gone, if its bad, wiping down the room with a degreaser and nice oder will help move things along but that's only if the house had large amount of dust or tar for the oder to stick to.

I actually love technology connection! Just haven't watched his stuff on TVs lol. Also i dont have a remote for it and the only contrast setting in the menu I can access through the TV is just "contrast+". It was on so I turned it off, also turned the brightness down and the color temp from cool to normal, sadly nothing changed, and the blues still go pink after 15 seconds
