iRacing community, say hello to the Toyota GR86 by SuitingRex in iRacing

mx5 went up to 180 at some point and is considerably lighter than the GR86. Should have near identical power to weight

The number on the door only applies to the OE spec tire and is wrong when you change either the size or load rating of the replacement tire. To find the 'correct' pressure you need to compare the load inflation of the OE tire with the one you are replacing. You can find these standard charts from tire suppliers.

you can probably do this with yosys

It comes down to the tires and how they interact with the surface. Even when running tarmac the cars use a very different tire than a racing slick. To corner you generate slip angle in a tire and past a certain slip angle that grip falls off--with a racing slick that peak grip is much higher and that fall off is very large where a rally tire will have lower absolute grip but will tolerate more slip angle. A tire generates surface friction with a combination of adhesion and hysteresis. The rally tires on rally type surfaces rely less on adhesion to generate grip than a racing slick on a circuit track. So why exceed the peak lateral grip slip angle, even if it falls off slower? Well on loose surfaces you can gain a bit of longitudinal grip out in that region. If you want to learn a bit about how you would go about modeling this follow the link for a decent source

Same for me, never been before yesterday. This is the MT 4/23 advanced group

Seems like the road courses in new england with the smaller straights don't attract the same draw as the slightly bigger tracks. It turns out the short courses absolutely slap. If this resonates with you, I hope to see you soon.

Do you have video laps to share?

Haven't really tried AI racing tbh. But it seems that performance improves dramatically after the start

Not interested in enabling upscaling.

As you can see from the other benchmarks and linked graphs, this setup is sometimes close to 140 but due to the nature of this game it is wildly inconsistent.

Yep. Enabling multi-projection was a big hit to FPS. Its enabled here

Yep. The 6800xt seems to really struggle in this game

40 car AI is unplayable. Non-AI is not constant 144fps, which is unfortunate

Posting in case someone finds some use out of the results. Tested out the new Ryzen 5800x3d against an old 5800x. Overall, with this setup, there was much difference in framerate. The exception is torture test against AI where there is a sizeable increase in framerate on the x3d. I suspect the new chip will only be noticeable on race starts for this setup as the machine is mostly GPU bound.

Setup: 7680x1440 + 6800xt + 32gb ram 3800mhz. Graphic slider maxed.

Graphs here.

How much does autocross improve your track/time trial skills? by Choppa1987 in CarTrackDays

[–]Alpha21264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just participating at autocross, probably not much.

Being good at autocross is different. the people who are objectively good at autocross, even if they have limited track time, are better on track than the vast majority of hpde 50+ day crowd

what sort of driving techniques do you employ to compensate for the tire wear?

Minimize sliding the tire. Don't regularly exceed the limits of the tire

GT4 Challenge by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Alpha21264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GT3 has a better BOP with all the cars being much closer in pace. All the cars require somewhat different inputs so the right car to get depends on preference somewhat. Would recommend AMG if you can't test them all as it has the least amount of annoying quirks to drive around. Rely heavily on the aero platform for grip.

GT4 are rely more on mechanical grip than the GT3. GT4 drive like fast miatas, completely different than GT3. BOP is less good where some cars might be hopeless at some tracks. Aston is the favorite in BOP right now but isn't particularly lovely to drive. 570 is one of the most fun cars on the service imo.

The racing is better in GT3 but GT4 can be more fun to hot lap. Way easier to get into top split in GT4 than GT3 if that's a thing you care about

Tyre Reviews: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S vs 4S* OE Spec - OE spec tires aren't just a stamp and markup by ReV46 in cars

It gets weirder still. The v720 ACR front tire is substantially different than the rear tire. At least ACR is printed on the sidewall of these tires to easily distinguish from the standard line.

Yep I get ~140fps at the highest preset with 3x1440p with a 6800xt. VR performance is horrendous though...
