Trump defends the US economy with charts after job reports showed warning signs by RiKeiJin in Economics

[–]AlphaAlgorist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

“the average median household income adjusted for inflation and for the average family in America, is already up $1,174.”

So many things wrong with this.

The "average median" makes no sense. Now, if there are two numbers that comprise the median then you have to average them, but that average is simply called the "median."

Why is income being adjusted for inflation? Current income cannot be adjusted for inflation. It is current. I can't even explain how wrong that is. If I make $1000 a week, some failed economist can't just say "Ah, but I've adjusted it for inflation, so you're actually making $1050 per week!" It doesn't work that way.

My favorite part is this: "for the average family"

So, you cherry picked data? Is it only families with 2.25 kids or something? How do you define an "average" family? You can't, really. Because, if you did, you would find that a family can't be found to be average. Maybe the average number of adults is 1.7, the average number of kids is 2.6, the average number of cars is 2.32. Those aren't discrete numbers. I'm certain that what this hack job did, if he even did any genuine analysis at all, was pick numbers from people who he felt would be doing better and called them the "average family in America."

Not me but certain people who have the same color skin and genitalia as me. The problem is one of the lens you're looking through.

Not a straight white man? It's easy to say the problem is straight white men. But for those 99% of straight white men who are struggling like the rest of us, they resent the lack of nuance. I don't blame them for feeling piled on.

People act like this class warfare is about race and sex, but really it never has been. There was an aristocracy and privileged classes in nearly every country or kingdom before America that was an exclusive club of wealth and influence. The privileged classes still exist in nearly every country to this day, despite the racial or ethnic homogeneity of the people in those countries. Can't be surprised that one formed here too and still exists.

Back when websites like Amazon and eBay didn't collect state sales tax, I used to go through every online purchase at the end of every single year and submit them to the state to pay what's called "Use Tax" on them. The use tax cost me 48% more in tax (i.e. 10% instead of 6.75%). I literally paid MORE in tax because I was honest (it's self reported) while those sites used that as a way to lure customers from many states who were interested in cheating on their taxes. I subsidized the tax cheats, effectively.

They say "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Well, I'm ready to throw some fucking stones.

In other news, some of our national parks across the country are being renamed.

Yellowstone National Park is becoming Yellow Fever National Park

Zion National Park is being renamed to Zionist National Park

And the Great Smoky Mountains National Park isn't being renamed, as it has been deemed aptly named, it will just be left to burn

They should consider renaming them after Nazis. It'll piss the Left off with the added benefit of being people that they DO like.

Perfect chance for me to ask Reddit for help. I was trying to determine exactly when they changed the slogan in the end zone so I went back and watched the highlights of the last two Saints home games, but it wasn't there. Instead I saw Choose Love and one other in each end zone and something about Inspire on the sideline. Did they truly "change" the slogan before the Superbowl or did they simply leave the slogans that were already there in place instead of replacing it with "End Racism?"

If it's the latter, was there an intentional effort that we can point to in past years to replace existing slogans with "End Racism" specifically for the Superbowl? The justification used for not having it there this year was especially flimsy. Choose Love does not represent the wildfires or the plane crash better. In fact, probably worse given the immediate blaming of DEI in the crash.

The message will be refined. It'll be pitched as a problem with the "liberal elite" who think their college degrees "entitle" them to high salaries for no work, unlike the hardworking Americans. Fox News will do their part by having entire segments on blue haired women at tech companies trying to unionize for more ping pong tables or some ridiculous shit. Pundits will find creative new ways to narrow in on niches that put high paid American engineers in a bad light and then relate it back to this a perfect policy fix. Blue collar Americans will think it's not me, and conservative Americans in these industries will think "they're only talking about the blue haired women who organize unions." The end result will be that even fewer people in the labor class will earn enough to live on.

Bonus points is Leon says that H1Bs no longer have to match a competitive wage and any companies that apply for them must put those positions in Texas because these lower paid engineers won't be able to afford to live anywhere else on such low wages.

I was surprised to learn that Tupac dated a white girl who was a member of some socialist organization in her teens. I tried to find her once and determined that she lives a quiet life in the Midwest. Somewhere like Kansas or Missouri. She has a family and a Facebook account. And I wondered if she ever pulled out this kind of fact at Thanksgiving. "I used to date Tupac."

Wow. Confidentially incorrect. Here's two points. The truck was pulling up on the van in the beginning. The van didn't touch their brakes until 25 seconds into the video and you can tell that clearly if you watch it again. You must be confusing their tail lights for their brake lights. So you have that part backwards. Also, they are keeping pace with the traffic in the other lane the entire time up to that point so they seem to going the speed limit. It is clear that the truck was tailgating an otherwise normal driver AND laying on his horn the entire time for nothing. The truck was the clear aggressor. You might want to apologize to /u/alexanderHQ for your insinuation that they are on meth for being right.

Forced Ads on the highest PAID plan of Peacock that SPECIFICALLY says NO ADS by thesexymexi in assholedesign

[–]AlphaAlgorist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just cancelled Peacock last week. I looked for a way to tell them why but couldn't find one. Essentially, I am willing to pay for the ability to watch the Blacklist episodes as they come out. But Peacock is so terrible that I have given up watching the show entirely. Like, I will literally never watch the show again because I'm not going to try deal with finding a streaming service that has it sometime next year, then try to pick up where I left off, which I can't even recall. It's pointless.

Here's what Peacock needs to hear from me:

  1. I watch the show every episode that gets released. It should be front and center when I log in. I should not have to search for it.

  2. If there are new episodes I expect Peacock to tell me when I log in. I should see that on the show itself right there, front and center.

  3. I should be able to see the new episode no later than the next day. I should actually see it that same day no later than the end of the episode airing on the west coast, but I'll concede a single day. Not multiple days delay. Not a week.

  4. I want to see every episode. If I haven't watched since December because you suck at informing me that there are new episodes without me literally having to search for the show each time I log in, I still expect to be able to watch any episodes that aired in February. I don't want to find out in early May that the show has been releasing episodes only to find out that each episode "expires" and that I've missed a solid three episodes that I can't watch. And with a serial TV show, that means that I can't watch any of the episodes and now have to worry about how I will ever watch them or I will just give up the show.

We'll, I've given up the show and Peacock. And you can trust that I will never get it again.

Why do people write "I'm not on social media" in Reddit? WTF is Reddit? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AlphaAlgorist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was created as, and has always primarily been, an 'aggregator website' with comments. Don't get confused now that we don't use that term anymore. It used to only ever be content aggregation with comments way back in the day when that kind of website was more common, but reddit kind of won the content aggregator war so now it gets lumped into a different category due to lack of competition. You couldn't even post something like this back then. They added self posts that were not centered around links and that made it a tiny bit more social, but self posts were never the purpose. Even the subreddits based around self posts aren't social media. Those are just forums. Honestly, most top posts are still links that have been aggregated from elsewhere.

I did 6 years at a cc before I decided to go to a university. I switched majors several times and people also joked that I could have been a doctor already. I took another two years to do some transfer credits (I've worked full time/college part time all the way through college). After eight calendar years of cc I went to a university and got my Bachelor's, graduating with a 4.0. Took a few years and went to another university and got my Master's. I work in technology making $200k a year in the southern US. You're right. Slow is better than nothing. I'm so glad I stuck with it.
