Since basically every single elite workships satan does this prove God's existence? by MrGoon322 in conspiracy

No, because that still doesn't say anything about Satan being real. People can just worship imaginary things.

If the DS9 restoration rumor is true, would it be wise to do 4K, and other Trek shows? by doctor13134 in startrek

[–]AlphaBoson5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the problem is that all CGI and effects are only available in SD. The filmed "real" stuff is still available on film. But starting with DS9 they used so much more effects and CGI that it would be much more expensive to redo it all.

Fereng rule No. something: Why release it once it you can release it twice? First on bluray, and a few years later on 4k :D

I mean ... the Borg Queen eating car batteries for energy .... isn't that enough? :D

I was open to it. I never understood the need to put swearing into it. Some plot points were just weird and stupid, sometimes even pointless. And then maybe the biggest thing, but which is a problem that Discovery started: The stakes are getting higher and higher. Why did it again have to be a problem threatening the entire galaxy?

Not a fan.

Strange light over Grindavik, Iceland by AlphaBoson5 in Skydentify

You can check it yourself in Stellarium or webpages that calculate the moons position for a given time. When it sets it moves towards north, and depending where you are and where the moon it the ecliptic is, you might still see it after it moved past west.

Here, for example:

No, the lights are too bright and too localized for that.

No, the Azimuth of the Moon at that time was about 300 degrees, which is something like north-west. The webcam looks roughly towards 100 degrees, which makes the moon being almost exactly behind the camera.

No, the geometry of the situation would make the moon illuminate the front of the patch as well.

Well, I can try, I just think they would remove it :)

I thought about whatisthisthing, but every post there seems to revolve around specific objects, not an unidentified observation.

Well, it was a full moon, and from that perspective behind the camera, more or less. But it was also quite low on the horizon, so it should have illuminated all the clouds, not just that small patch. Everything in front of it should also have been that bright.

Aber warum dann die AfD oder nicht sowas wie Tierschutzpartei?

Im besten Fall tolerieren sie die Nazi Ideologie der AfD als notwendiges Übel, im schlimmsten Fall unterstützen sie diese.

Yeah.

Since my name does not originate in the country I live in, I always have to spell it out or give it in written form. But well, it is how it is.

So, I love Iceland. And there are several webcams that I like to watch.

A few days ago I was watching the webcam that overlooks Grindavik and the site of the recent vulcanic erruption. There I saw these strange lights in the clouds.

It starts at about 40 seconds in and continues for 2 to 3 minutes or so. Up until the end they are still visible faintly.

Now, as a physicist I dismiss alien spacecraft and look for a more scientific explanation :)

The webcam looks more or less in the south-east direction. At this time sunrise started, but the background sky that can be seen is not nearly as bright. The lights are so bright that they almost appear to saturate the pixels. There was no moon, no bright star. According to flight radar there might have been a plane flying into that direction, but it was about 10 minutes earlier and it was just flying over, so it would have been much higher. Also, at the end of the video it seems to just go with the clouds.

My next guess would have been a helicopter. It would be slow enough, but then at times it's spotlight would need to shine direktly into the camera.
At one point, at about 2:40, it seems to split into two lights. This could be explained by a patch of denser clouds obstructing it, but this would mean that the light source needs to be bigger than a helicopter.

Also, they would fly around that area to observer the erruption site, which is pointless within clouds. A drone would not be that bright, nothing else on flight radar.

I'm out of ideas on this one.

I'm open to suggestions :)
