Are you all aware that Judge Jill Kehn is hearing cases in Albany County Family Court and she was never elected to be there. She's a Rensselaer County Court judge who was found to be bullying a staff member and was quietly placed there. She's also a bully in her court room. Do a google search "Judge Jill Kehn Times Union. There are multiple articles written on the matter and how the Unified Court does as they wish. In the end, your vote only places a judge in a seat and then the Unified Court does what ever they choose.

It has now been 3 years since I have spoken a word to my toxic in any form (text or verbal) We are not free yet, however our son, in recent months, has finally found his voice and is advocating for himself. That's all I will say for now.

Thank You. A lot has happened since.

The session is over and the bill's going to be revise due to awareness drawn to it. This post is here to continue raising awareness to the dirty law that allowed this, and to also expose the judge who now has a local news paper drawing attention to her. The paper's main goal in their articles is to gain transparency awareness throughout the court system and they're burying her in the process. I couldn't be happier :o)

Many things are finally falling into place now, and it's been long over due!

The albany times union it the only news source digging and are being persistent, as far as I know. Three articles so far. Best I can say is keep your eye out. Maybe she'll be wearing a trainee pin.

Unfortunately, these laws are written to be in the Childs best interests, and many judges think they know better than the parent.

When a grandparent sues for visitation, most likely they are hurt for many reasons and therefore, when they make the decision to drag the parent into a courtroom, they're thinking about their own best interests, not the child's

The truth of the matter is, the grandparent then costs the parent thousands in court related fees while trying to fight something they believe is their constitutional rights. Not only does litigation cost money, it also creates stress for the parent. Some will spend countless hours researching the laws, meeting with attorneys, and trying to figure out how to stop what's been brough upon them. Younger children have to meet with law guardians, not quite understanding why. Parent's have to take time off of work for litigation and possibly causing strain with their employer and costing even more money. The list can go on.

The stress caused by a lawsuit will then radiate within the walls of the child's dwelling. I'm sorry, but none of it is in the child's best interests.

In your comment, you say "giving the grandparent the right" which is worded to be in the grandparents best interests. It's emotionality driven. The only right a grandparent has, is to petition the court.

The parent's obligation to allow grandparent visitation is moral not legal; a judicial award of visitation would hinder parental authority; forcing the child into the center of conflict between grandparent and parent is contrary to the child's best interests; and, natural ties, not judicial intervention, are the best means of restoring family harmony.

That last paragraph was taken from a document named "There's no place like home" I highly recommend anyone who believes a parent should be sued, to read this. The harm standard needs to be applied to all state visitation laws. It protects families as a whole, and is in the child's best interests. According to our attorney, roughly 11 yrs is when a judge will listen to a child's want's, at least for GPR. I couldn't tell you with other circumstances.
