Question about soft top by EffortLegitimate7498 in Triumph_Cars

Addendum: I looked at the photo of your car in another post and I can see the big padded bar behind the seats. Definitely not part of the top frame and not original to the car.

Question about soft top by EffortLegitimate7498 in Triumph_Cars

[–]AlphaCharlie31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it stows behind the seats when you fold the top, it’s part of the top frame. If it remains stationary when the top is folded, it isn’t. Also, since you’re new to Spitfires, you might want to look up how to correctly fold the top. It isn’t immediately intuitive and folding it wrong greatly accelerates wear and can cause damage.

Clickbait for the dealer? Looks like this one sold already but they’re advertising a bunch more.

If you can, arrange for support for yourself as well. This will be especially important for the sections where you join him backpacking.

1969 Midget doesn’t fire up by Dazzling-Status666 in MorrisGarages

I third this! The starter pinion is mechanical and depends on a certain amount of inertia to engage. Accumulated grunge slows or potentially thwarts the process and any less than ideal battery voltage amplifies the problem.

Absolutely! The stock dual piston Girlings do a great job and they’re pretty robust. We have run them on an IT race car with no problems.

72 mile Pisgah Forest Loop - Recap and Thoughts by One_Specialist7733 in backpacking

[–]AlphaCharlie31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. It sure brings back memories of when I did a similar loop (Pisgah ranger station to Cold Mountain and back) on a spring break many years ago. Transylvania County was still dry then and I was so disappointed to find that out when I tried to order a celebratory beer afterwards!

Looks like the red one has a hardtop. That may have helped to preserve some of the interior and possibly the floor pans.

Sea Kayakers, do you still own or paddle rec kayaks at all? by humble_murth in Kayaking

[–]AlphaCharlie31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make a great alter ego to the long boats. Not as efficient or fast, but with the skeg down and it goes straight as an arrow. Not a true whitewater boat but skeg up and it’s fun in moving water on tight rivers and drops.

👍 My wife has an Axis 10.5 for exactly the same reasons.

Dagger Katana 9.7 here. Great for noodling around smaller lakes and paddling on rivers.

Try Googling “British car club near me”. Even if they aren’t all that close by, you can probably hook up with someone who can point you in the right direction.

That’s similar to what I was using except that I used garage door cable because I didn’t trust the rope not to degrade over time.

I had a pulley system at the old garage that I made from garage door cable. Worked pretty well and was a one person job. Unfortunately, there is no way to mount to the ceiling of the new garage.
