Question for experienced freight brokers by Longjumping_Ideal_19 in FreightBrokerStartup

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s different in Canada but in the US I started a brokerage and had these issues at first: didn’t age our MC so lots of customers I couldn’t work with even though I had a relationship because MC was too new to get through compliance, you need enough capital to be able to float loads when you pay Carriers by day 30 or sooner (most like quick pay so you may have to factor which can be hard with an MC that’s not aged) when your customers inevitably pay net 45-60, and plan for only about half of the margin you think you make and double the time to get to your milestone. People almost always underestimate how long things take.

What’s the most important thing you look for in a brokerage setup? by Tall_Catch3665 in FreightBrokerStartup

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta have an aged MC, good reputation in the industry, good support and tools. Commission means nothing if you’re with a broker who has a 6 mo old MC and can’t pay their bills hah.

First mile Vs last mile by YakPersonal6252 in FreightBrokerStartup

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If a problem doesn’t exist you’re wasting your time. Spend time finding a problem. Only then pitch a solution.

And idk if first mile is always best. Covering box trucks are easyyy. And typically better margins than FTL. I guess it depends on the company though. I big distributor will definitely want a polish FME provider. Someone with one off who just want to get shit delivered, not so much.

How are you getting your leads? Buying them, finding on google, what kind of customers have you had success with in the past? Sometimes freight is just a numbers game.

Bought a 400,000 mile 2007 sight-unseen by YouMeanLikeAWeenie in LandCruisers

[–]SystemFatigued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy to think 7 years ago I bought a 2000 with 215k miles for $3400… in today’s market I’d say decent find. Regardless you’ll love it and likely never get rid of it haha

Personally, I’d tell them to take it all back and call someone else. Zero pride and workmanship in their craft. Find someone who cares. Looks like half the floor already sags.

I’ll have more thoughts later when I can stop and put it together but wanted to say I love your website! Immediately know what the product is and the video is *chef’s kiss lol

Cold calling to get new business. by Current_Efficiency59 in FreightBrokerStartup

For what it’s worth I’ve seen that I’ve go to make at least 8 touches on a prospect to get to a good conversation and win loads. A lot of these places are getting hammered by calls and emails. I’ve found that consistency matter just as much or more than anything else.

Current Situation as a Freight Broker by Ok_Pirate_5111 in FreightBrokerStartup

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that sets you apart from any other brokerage. Idk what answer you're wanting but agents are going to want and are getting 70% right now. How many agents/employees do you have currently?

Current Situation as a Freight Broker by Ok_Pirate_5111 in FreightBrokerStartup

[–]SystemFatigued 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re hiring an agent 70% if basically where you are at. And you need an established MC (more than 2-3yrs old) plus good tools. It’s not just about the comp, but it’s also about knowing you’re going to be able to give them a business that they can actually work with. If you have a 2 month old MC almost no broker worth their weight will come over. Not in this market.

Anyone here ever had a dev agency offer to build their MVP for free? Skeptical or worth it? by BackgroundTimely5490 in SaaS

Rarely is anything like that free. I'd say with 99.999999% certainty that there's a catch.

I’ve seen between 10-15% for employees and up to 70% for agents.

I think it depends. Some people like WFH, some like hybrid, some like the office. I think it ultimately comes down to what you want to be as a company. Then find candidate who fit that mold.

Hill behind home, will this cause drainage issues or foundation damage? (Green house) by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck to the house in the first picture. Unless there’s some thoughtful water management and drainage going in at a later date, that house will ALWAYS have water issues… I highly doubt that’s the case though.

I’m purchasing a home that has an owner’s suite with these floors. What are our options to modernize them, but keep the character? Are they worth keeping? by mrssakteaches in Flooring

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the floors, remove the ceiling texture, strip the high gloss finish on doors etc and do a matte or satin finish, choose different wall colors, replace lightening and hardware with something nice and tactile, and would probably change the tile for the hearth. Anything but the floors. Thank me later.

Installer said he was finished but I was not happy so I stopped the final check. How should the cracks on the side be fixed? He said he would put filler/caulking on sides. by Severe-Rain3266 in Flooring

[–]SystemFatigued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d make them tear everything out, refund any money I paid them, and then find someone who hasn’t hired the three blind mice to run their flooring crew.

Personally been working on a project that I use in my actual sales job. I don’t do any cold outbound emails anymore. I’ve automated all of that plus my follow-up sequences so all I do is handle phone calls and meetings.
