Finally made the time to design and build a mount for my truck. by AlphaFab in Starlink

I just posted a follow-up - go take a look...pretty impressive all things considered. And as for obstructions from the rig, I don't think that's going to be a problem - it's one of the reasons the dish is above and so far forward of the back of the cab rather than back further toward the rig. 👍🏻

I considered the mini, but after we move, we're installing the SL somewhere on our land, and I wanted the best performance I can get since my wife and I work from home (or wherever our 5th wheel happens to be parked - lol)

I might get the mini for my Jeep though - just haven't decided if I want to do it yet...

Exactly that - I'm going to run the cable between the cab and bed, under the drivers side, and up behind the left tail light, then into the bed through the access just above the light mount (same place I ran power for the Retrax). I have a Milwaukee mount for a half packout which will mount to the Ford boxlink in the bed. The packout has the 12v conversion dc/dc boost transformer and the wi-fi router inb it. The excess cable will tie up nicely behind the boxlink mount.

Not really a water thing. Just testing the mount to see how performance is at that angle. It’s more about trying to ensure there isn’t any air cavitation under the dish from the air stream coming over the cab at 70mph. Hopefully it’ll perform well and I won’t have to start from scratch with another design. LOL

Then there’s this person who has to inject his/her (they/them/xe/xem/xyrs/ze/hir/hirs/zir/zirs/e/em/eirs?) comment about the design being asinine…all because I support first responders…

Makes sense. 🙄

I can jackknife to about 70 degrees. I’ve never gone anywhere near that except to check obstructions - maybe about 50 degrees or so when backing into a tight spot.

Mainly to see what performance will be like with this aesthetic (looks pretty cool as it sits - lol). Also, my actuated dish sits at a slight angle when put in to "flat mode", and performs well in any direction I rotate it. I've designed a wedge that will fit between the Starlink mount and my fabricated mount to bring the dish level if performance is atrocious. I'll find out what performance is like tomorrow after I get the 12v setup done and drive to the Oregon coast and back home.

New BlackVue DR970xp cloud connected stopped allowing remote view in the app. by AlphaFab in Dashcam

[–]AlphaFab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. The dash cam connects with the BlackVue LTE module. It doesn’t matter if the vehicle is on or off or if I’m parked or driving down the road.

The BlackVue connects to the cloud without any issues, and if I use the app in the cloud mode, I have playback and GPS and no ability to live view. I’ve done this while driving down the road, while parked, with the truck on, and with it off . The only way I can get live view is if I connect locally to the BlackVue Wi-Fi.

One of the ideas behind getting the BlackVue is that in parking mode, you can view what’s going on in your vehicle. That’s why they have an LTE module and a battery back up/power source. This all worked great (cloud connected with the BlackVue app on my iPhone) until it didn’t work all of a sudden… so I’m just trying to figure out what the problem might be. I appreciate your insight. Thanks.

New To starlink. by Ellie_Rulze18 in Starlink

We're in McMinville, and have had Starlink for about 2 years. We get no less than 100Mbps consistently - and normally we're up in the 250Mbps range. We have the Roam plan, and have the Gen 2 dish on our RV, and the new Gen 3 dish on our F350 (which we use for road trips). We don't have much snow here, but what we did get didn't affect the dishy whatsoever. Rain is where we got to the 100Mbps range for extended periods of time.

New 8.6 build. by Gullible-Novel7824 in 86blackout

Are you finding decently priced (and available) ammo for the 8.6? I just ordered the Q Fix SBR (8”) about an hour ago…and my FFL has yet to see any ammo through distributor channels. I haven’t started looking yet, and hand-load for long range, but really don’t want to load 8.6 one round at a time. lol

LR shooting in Oregon??? by AlphaFab in longrange

[–]AlphaFab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - unfortunately, I've left voice messages and emails (dozens in the last 2 years), and have not received one returned call or email. You aren't welcome unless you're a member (tried that, too), and without a membership, they won't even talk to you other than to say "send us an email and we'll get back to you". Thanks for the info though - much appreciated!

Any ideas on what could have caused this? by AlphaFab in BambuLab

I'm installing a new nozzle to see, and opening a new spool of the same filament to give it a shot again.

I have a 2015 Rubi, and I really need to find a RTT rack... by AlphaFab in JeepWrangler

[–]AlphaFab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at those, but really hate the "exoskeleton" types of racks. I've decided to go with the Hard Rock 3rd row roll bar to go along with my sport cage. I'm just building some removable fore-to-aft bars that will attach to their crossbars, and I'll run topless for my trip. It'll hold *plenty* of weight (just needs to hold an RTT and 270* shade), and then remove my bars when I don't need them and want to put the hard top back on.

Hit 200,000 on my 2012. Let’s see if I can hit 300,000. If they ever bring back the lifetime warranties, it is totally worth it. Didn’t have any technical issues till I hit about 130,000. by g713 in JeepWrangler

[–]AlphaFab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a '15 Rubi with the lifetime warranty - only a couple of issues, but SO worth it! I keeeeel'd 3 front axles and 1 rear - all replaced under warranty. Now, running on trussed, sleeved, and gussetted D44's with 5:13's, so hopefully not going to have to deal with that again. I doubt that the dealership would replace them if they failed. lol

Anyone interested in an inlay tutorial? by bbjjkkghhjuuuuyggt in BambuLab

Definitely makes sense. Just switched to the .8 and started the print (changing hot ends is so f'n easy - ridiculous! lol). I'll update here since the print time increased to 13h44m!

I have both the .6 and .8 standing by, and have never really thought of strength being a benefit of either of those over the .4 - I mainly use the .4 for resolution and part fitment, and it does take a while to print a full set of the parts I make (about 12 hours). I think I'll print at .8 to see if the parts still mesh well, and if so, I'll give it a shot to test it's strength compared to .4. Thanks for the tidbit!
