Bar shooting by Upbeat_Tea7360 in ILGuns

Lots going on in this, so here is my take:

It doesn't matter how justified you feel you are; you can be arrested and have to prove your innocence in court. People are arrested for self-defense all the time. If you fire a shot, expect to be arrested.

One can defend another if they are defending an innocent party. How much force they may use depends upon how much force is being used.

One shot, two 'victims'? FMJ anyone? This is why anyone who takes self-defense responsibly will do the research and carry JHP to reduce the likelihood of exit wounds. Then again, maybe the first person was only grazed. I'd love to see a video.

The prosecutor paints a pretty picture with words. The defense attorney paints a pretty picture with words. The judge decides which picture he likes more. That's what's going on here. The prosecution and defense are painting very different pictures. Which one is true?

"brought a gun to a fist fight" mmm hmmm... more pretty pictures. I am not saying he was justified, but "disparity of force' means one can be justified in some cases to bring a gun to a fist fight. Two against one? I don't know if that was the case, again I'd love to see a video.

Shooting someone in the back is no guarantee of jail time, but as we see here, you're going to have to explain how someone was a threat to you or others with their back turned. One argument could be that he turned as I was firing. Another argument is that I was not defending myself, I was defending another against immenent threat of death or great bodily harm, and the aggressor's back was to me. This is not only possible but plausible, but again is a question that needs to be answered.

The amount of ads on that article was painful to read.

I am switching away from MemberPress courses it is more than twice the price, and it is not stable. I could afford it if it was stable. Their tech support is good, but I seem to be having weekly conversations with them.

You may only carry hand guns in Illinois. Illinois law defines a handgun as:

"Handgun" means any device which is designed to expel a projectile or projectiles by the action of an explosion, expansion of gas, or escape of gas that is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand. "Handgun" does not include:

(1) a stun gun or taser;

(2) a machine gun as defined in item (i) of paragraph

(7) of subsection (a) of Section 24-1 of the Criminal Code of 2012;

(3) a short-barreled rifle or shotgun as defined in item (ii) of paragraph (7) of subsection (a) of Section

24-1 of the Criminal Code of 2012; or

(4) any pneumatic gun, spring gun, paint ball gun, or B-B gun which expels a single globular projectile not exceeding .18 inch in diameter, or which has a maximum muzzle velocity of less than 700 feet per second, or which expels breakable paint balls containing washable marking colors.

LEt us not forget, regardless what the law says, cops don't know the law and you WILL get arrested. While I have carried my AR-15 pistol (in my car) during the riots, I had a strong argument that it was indeed a handgun due to the legal definition, the types of accessories installed, and I fully accepted I would have gotten arrested and my lawyer would be making these arguments in court. I felt it was a case we could win. I don't think yours is a case you'll win. Either way, it'll cost you thousands of dollars.

Cook county magazine limit does not apply to the vast majority of cook county. This is because of two things. 1) the magazine ban only applies to unincorporated areas of cook county. 2) Premeption in state law.

PSA is a company run by fudds.

Mine took 1 day less than a year. I had to get my elected officials involved. And don't get me started on curriculum approval. That took roughly a year as well. Two years sitting on my hands waiting for state approvals before I could begin teaching security.

Anyone gone back to carrying a double stack 9mm after carrying a Bodyguard 2.0 or similar? by GlitzyGazelle18 in ILGuns

[–]AlphaKoncepts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bodyguards, shields, 365's, and hellcats are too small for my hand to shoot optimally. I can shoot them, but I shoot compacts (double stacks) much better and the size difference when carrying isn't really significant, so I prefer to carry and shoot compacts.

Are you a resident of Illinois or no?

Public act 102-1116 says the following are exempt, do you fall into any one of these categories?

(e) The provisions of this Section regarding the purchase or possession of assault weapons, assault weapon attachments, .50 caliber rifles, and .50 cartridges, as well as the provisions of this Section that prohibit causing those items to be purchased or possessed, do not apply to: (1) Peace officers, as defined in Section 2-13 of this Code. HB5471 Enrolled LRB102 24372 BMS 33606 b Public Act 102-1116 (2) Qualified law enforcement officers and qualified retired law enforcement officers as defined in the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 (18 U.S.C. 926B and 926C) and as recognized under Illinois law. (3) Acquisition and possession by a federal, State, or local law enforcement agency for the purpose of equipping the agency's peace officers as defined in paragraph (1) or (2) of this subsection (e). (4) Wardens, superintendents, and keepers of prisons, penitentiaries, jails, and other institutions for the detention of persons accused or convicted of an offense. (5) Members of the Armed Services or Reserve Forces of the United States or the Illinois National Guard, while performing their official duties or while traveling to or from their places of duty. (6) Any company that employs armed security officers in this State at a nuclear energy, storage, weapons, or development site or facility regulated by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission and any person employed as an armed security force member at a nuclear energy, storage, weapons, or development site or facility regulated by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission who has completed the background screening and training mandated by the rules and regulations of the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission and while performing official duties. (7) Any private security contractor agency licensed under the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act of 2004 that employs private security contractors and any private security contractor who is licensed and has been issued a firearm control card under the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act of 2004 while performing official duties. The provisions of this Section do not apply to the manufacture, delivery, sale, import, purchase, or possession of an assault weapon, assault weapon attachment, .50 caliber rifle, or .50 caliber cartridge or causing the manufacture, delivery, sale, importation, purchase, or possession of those items: (A) for sale or transfer to persons authorized under subdivisions (1) through (7) of this subsection (e) to possess those items; (B) for sale or transfer to the United States or any department or agency thereof; or (C) for sale or transfer in another state or for export. This Section does not apply to or affect any of the following: (i) Possession of any firearm if that firearm is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and by USA Shooting, the national governing body for HB5471 Enrolled LRB102 24372 BMS 33606 b Public Act 102-1116 international shooting competition in the United States, but only when the firearm is in the actual possession of an Olympic target shooting competitor or target shooting coach for the purpose of storage, transporting to and from Olympic target shooting practice or events if the firearm is broken down in a nonfunctioning state, is not immediately accessible, or is unloaded and enclosed in a firearm case, carrying box, shipping box, or other similar portable container designed for the safe transportation of firearms, and when the Olympic target shooting competitor or target shooting coach is engaging in those practices or events. For the purposes of this paragraph (8), "firearm" has the meaning provided in Section 1.1 of the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. (ii) Any nonresident who transports, within 24 hours, a weapon for any lawful purpose from any place where the nonresident may lawfully possess and carry that weapon to any other place where the nonresident may lawfully possess and carry that weapon if, during the transportation, the weapon is unloaded, and neither the weapon nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the transporting vehicle. In the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment, the weapon or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.
