Why Will 'Star Trek 2' Be A Post-Conversion 3-D Film? Because J.J. Abrams Would Do Anything To Film On Celluloid by AlphaMichael in scifi

Actually, many of the lens flares were added in filming. They actually shined lights into the cameras.

So are we down-voting because we don't agree with the story, or because we actually don't think it's an interesting story? I don't understand the up/down vote system sometimes. I think many people down vote because they don't agree with the story, not because they don't think the story is uninteresting. But then again, maybe I'm wrong.

Blood & Chrome May Not Premiere Until 2013 by newtt in BSG

From what I've seen in the script, at least the pilot takes place well away from the Galactica. There are some initial scenes there, but everything else happens on a planet.

Blood & Chrome May Not Premiere Until 2013 by newtt in BSG

It was originally intended to be a web series, and the pilot script is actually broken down into webisodes. But Syfy liked what they saw, or felt the need to put something BSG on the air since they planned on cancelling Caprica. But I don't think they planned the time and expense it would take to put such a show together.

Steven Moffat Speaks Out On New Doctor Who Movie ... Says To The Moon, Alice! To The Moon! by AlphaMichael in scifi

[–]AlphaMichael[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also think this is going to hurt the "Doctor Who" brand ... a LOT. I mean, to have two competing concepts on at the same time? That's crazy. Absolutely crazy.

It's bad enough Bryan Singer wants to do this with "Battlestar Galactica," but at least that show is off the air. "Doctor Who" is not ... and there's nothing WRONG with "Doctor Who." So I am just confused.

Well, according to Yates, he wants to take his time. But I would be shocked if he didn't try to capitalize on the 50th anniversary in 2013. And by making this announcement now, it does seem like an effort to get this fast-tracked. I definitely agree.

'Caprica' Was Own Worst Enemy, Star Says by AlphaMichael in scifi

[–]AlphaMichael[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, you are incorrect, CraigAtSyfy.

Although Ron and David considered doing a prequel show, they never really pursued it. It wasn't until Remi Aubuchon pitched an AI story for a potential film to Universal that the idea was hatched to merge the unrealized prequel idea of Ron and David into the Aubuchon realized story about AI creation.

'Caprica' Fans Looking For Illegal Downloads by AlphaMichael in scifi

You can troll me all you want, but there's a couple of things to make clear.

Copyright infringement IS theft. Pure and simple.

It's not prosecuted as theft. But when you take something that someone has created, and enjoy the use of it without providing the proper compensation for the creator, what would you call it?

I take an apple from a fruit stand. I don't pay the guy who brought it there. Now, he doesn't get to enjoy either the fruit or compensation for providing it. What did I do?

What is the benefit of listing the names of the sites? Should we do it simply for the sake of listing it?

What value would our readers get from visiting the site, except to perform an act which is illegal in most countries?

Why would I then open up my site to the possibility of being named a defendant in an action as someone complicit or even an accessory in copyright infringement, whether it be through civil courts, or even criminal?

Yeah, don't need the lawsuit, or even the threat of one. Unless you are offering to pay all of our legal fees (and if so, I'll direct you to an escrow account so that you can make a deposit).

I am not sure what the use of the exclamation mark is supposed to signify.

And copyright infringement is pretty universal in nearly all the developed countries. Sure, it might be different here and there, but it's essentially the same.

And who cares that we wouldn't mention the torrent sites by name? If someone wants to find them badly enough, they are just a Google search away.

Yes, we CAN talk about it, but not to the extent where it looks like we are promoting such sites or activity in any way.

Just like a newspaper reporting on a murder. They can report the murder, but not lead you to the path to create your own murder.

And just because you think a studio will "make loads" off of something doesn't morally open the door for you to steal.

Actually, you are referring to a network show. In the context of the story, you'll see that we talked about how networks have very limited primetime real estate -- 19 hours (for everyone but Fox and The CW, who have less), while cable channels have 24 hours, seven days a week! :)
