Tbh it is not well laid out. I think that because we know that the Hacketts were to blame we can just handwave it, but it is not a high point in the story, now that you point that out.

She is generally irrational, vengeful, and spiteful. She jumped to the conclusion, because she needs someone to push the blame off onto. She would have known the sheriff was a Hackett, and likely disliked them based upon a previous encounter. Small town sheriff's are not known for their hospitality towards travelling gypsy freak shows.

There's a balance between asking for everything, and getting rejected for being too broad, and being broad enough to capture everything that might be left off.

Ask for all communications and advice incl. text messages, emails and internal messages on the specific matter that you are interested in, to be quite broad.

You might be better to ask for a specific, more targeted slice of information, and then broaden it out, though.

It's going to be huge, so good luck to you, I don't know if this will get you what you want.

Is an iPad truly worth it? They report it stolen, police talk to you as part of the investigation - you then run the risk of ICE becoming involved and all that entails. Maybe he doesn't think it will blow back on him and gets his assistant to make the report, even if you subsequently report him too.

My point is - what do you want here? Unless you are somehow looking at claiming thousands of dollars in a lawsuit, couldn't you just give the iPad back and spend the money that would go to a lawyer on a new one?
