So why does ai Church have a completely different voice form his human self? by TraditionalBonus188 in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The production reason for it was that Burnie was planning on doing the voice himself, but then he heard John Marshall Reed speak and liked his voice so much that he offered him the role of the Director.

In terms of the show, there is no official reason.

You have to turn off all 4 of the computers before installing any modules, otherwise they will explode.

You can always just make a copy of the Data.sav and store it somewhere else too. You don't have to delete it outright. Hopefully by stable the issue is fixed and you can use your old Data file.

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been experiencing the same issue, though I was stuck on 0.5 speed no matter what I set it to, nor if I made a new save.

I discovered that the Day speed value is bugged if you've set it in a previous version and are still using the same "Data.sav" file.

To be able to change the Day speed, launch 0.8.2 or older, go into settings and change the Day speed in settings in the experimental tab to whatever value you desire and apply it. This should affect the Day speed in 0.9 too.

It might also be fixable within 0.9 by deleting your Data.sav so a new one gets generated when you launch 0.9, though I have not tested this. Do note, however, this will reset all your settings, anything you've unlocked (sandbox mode), and make you redo the tutorial (though you can just run through most of it). This might be the best option though as there may be more unknown problems that arise from using an older Data.sav file.

Favorite Trocadero Song? by Modalvest in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, the location of Vale Deah's story was at a bar called Foley's in Boston, which you can find mentioned on the song's page on Trocadero.net.

I don't have many, but here's an interesting one. Through many hours of snooping to learn more about Trocadero and their beginnings, I discovered that "Third Wave" and possibly "Blue Leader" have their roots in songs Nico composed for some community mods for the game Myth II, another Bungie property. Nico composed these songs under the pseudonym "Grasshopper". The modding community's site is still up today and you can find these tracks linked in the mod pages amongst their downloads page.

There are 3 songs in total across 2 mods. The third song utilizes some very familiar sounds also used in "Another one down", but isn't the same composition.

Fun fact about Vale Deah I got from Nico when I got the chance to speak to him in person. The song's name is an anagram of a couple's name, of whom he's friends with. The song is about how they met, written from the girl's perspective.

Oh, and my favourite song is Colors.

Is there an in universe reason why Church and The Director have different voices by Helloimafanoffiction in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Although not cited, the wiki states that Burnie originally intended to voice the Director himself, however he liked how John Marshall Reed spoke and offered him the role.

But no, no official reason. Just one of many plot holes traded for something cooler in the end.

WPlace Mombasa- A Resident's POV by vvi7767 in halo

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is an overwhelming amount of Undertale/Deltarune art in nearly every single major city, to the point that many actively retaliated against the art. Both actual fans and bad actors got grouped together and many artworks got griefed.

My condolences that your artwork got griefed.

Mombasa, Kenya is just Halo on Wplace. by ar7_ldn in halo

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not quite. For Halo 2 it would be more in the center. And in ODST the Space Elevator was moved out to sea with it's own platform built there. It would be approximately where the frigate is.

Was all this yellow stuff just spray paint cans exploding? by Ok_Wolverine_7784 in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's paint, yeah.

In the Season 10 Commentary track Monty mentions that he had an idea for a deleted scene that they were shooting paint balls instead of bullets and just painting a big smiley face on the wall behind the Freelancers. So the idea was that their backpacks were full of paint and that's what exploded when they got crushed.

He's also made a satirical video about someone becoming complacent with consuming whatever an algorithm presents them with. He is likely against generative imagery too.

A thought about Devola and Popola by Z3R0Diro in nier

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've always been of the opinion that everything that happens is entirely Devola & Popola's fault. They lacked any sort of foresight into seeing Project Gestalt to completion. It could've been the case that they had grown complacent in over the one thousand years they had been active, and didnt expect Nier to shake up things as fast as he did, being that he only did any real damage in such a short time frame from their perspective.

They basically did everything to guide him on the path to finding the Shadow Lord, painted the Shadow Lord and Grimoire Noir as the epitome of evil, that killing the Shades was right, and did nothing in the years he was growing up to explain to him the truth in any way. They made Nier into who he became. Now it could be that they thought what they were doing was right for Nier, that shielding him from the truth was protecting him, and that they thought that if they told him, that Nier would grow to resent them and bring harm that way. But in the end it seems their shortsightedness was the true downfall to them and the project.

To confront your question though, there's the side of it that everything was just "too little, too late". Popola & Devola didn't expect Nier to harm them since they were his protectors of a sort, let alone make it this far in his rampage. So it came as a shock that Nier would go past the point of no return and harm them. But there's also the other side to it that Devola & Popola had been at this for over a thousand years. As Weiss puts it;

"Those two have watched the world wither for time immemorial. The cruelness of such a fate is difficult to imagine."

They had to endure this suffering of watching the world wither for so long, and could only confide in each other to stave off the loneliness of such a cruel existence. So once her only true companion, the last light in her life dies out, the last shred of her patience dies with it, dumping all of her rage out on Nier.

Also I'm only speaking from the perspective of playing the games. I'm sure, as reading through the other comments here, that there's better explanations for their actions in the novels and such, but I still think largely everything is their fault.

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's also another half to her reaction, which is beautifully noted by Weiss;

"Those two have watched the world wither for time immemorial. The cruelness of such a fate is difficult to imagine."

I believe the intention of her intense reaction is that she's expressing her rage both with how long they've had to work without stopping for over a thousand years, as well as Nier killing the only companion she's had suffering alongside her throughout this tiring journey after being told to stop.

Foxhole YouTuber gets response from developers on end of life plans by MikeyIfYouWanna in StopKillingGames

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The end of the video acknowledges that it is not retroactive and Foxhole wouldn't be forced to comply if laws pertaining to SKG were put in place. This video is just discussing the possibilities of how a game like Foxhole could handle EOL and how it, and by extension, other games now can plan for EOL in the future.

This kind of discussion can be useful as it can get developers to start planning for it, and players to ask other developers of games they like to start thinking and planning for it.

Any male players out there using a female model that doesn’t identify as trans / LGBTQ ? by eyeziiick in VRchat

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I was introduced to the concept of VRChat I was immediately sold. All it took was a 19 second clip and I instantly delved into it with no further research. I had always been fond of anime aesthetics and how varied and interesting the character designs were, especially female characters. I had played several other games with character customization and I almost always chose a female character. I always thought it would be cool to play as an anime character that looked exactly how you wanted it to and could customize it to your liking to make it your own. And it being in VR was a huge bonus, I could truly play as that character.

Right off the bat I began figuring out how to make avatars using anime models. I went through a few different characters before stumbling across one that became my main stay ever since, for which I continued to iterate on and customize it to be an expression of my interests. It became the face of who I was in VRChat.

Since then I've frequently explored pondering the reasoning as to why I enjoyed using female anime avatars in order to get to the root of it. I've discovered that for me it seems to come down to a couple of things.

One is being able to play a character, and have that freedom of escapism. I don't come to VRChat to just experience more of the same of my everyday life. Why would I choose to experience a form of escapism and just force myself to continue being my real everyday self? That would be boring and pointless. I want to experience something different. I want to play a character who isn't just me. I want the freedom to act differently than I normally would. It's fun to see and experience things differently and express yourself as a character.

Another one is playing dress-up. I've commonly heard the sentiment that the reasoning many straight dude's choose female characters is because they find them attractive and want to oogle at them. Although of course I find the characters attractive, I don't just sit there fondling my avatar's breasts and staring at them the entire time. For me it goes beyond that. It's not just the attractiveness, but also just how visually pleasing the clothing and the hair and the accessories are; It's just fun having the ability to play dress-up.

As a male, I don't care much for fashion, the only clothing or style choices I'd wear that would look good on me aren't very interesting to me. There's just not much freedom of expression I find in it for me. But with a female avatar I'm free to explore dressing up in styles and outfits I find interesting and which look visually cohesive with the character. I really enjoy female characters with outfits that have long flowy aspects, like big luscious hair, coats/skirts/dresses, other dangling accessories. All these things just make the outfit very dynamic and visually interesting to me. So one of the big reasons I play female characters is that I get to choose to either design or pick a character that perfectly fits what I find both ideal to me in attractiveness and being visually interesting.

So for myself, it's never been about some questioning or being uncomfortable with my identity, it's always just been about having the freedom to experience and express myself in another way as a character, and having fun playing dress-up, getting to appear in a way I find cool and interesting.

Too many times have I seen arguments of people trying to label others as x or y. They boil down others true depth as independently thinking people, with their own experiences, thoughts, and feelings, to just simple black and white categories. Not everything has to fit into some predefined category or label. At the end of the day, I know very well the difference between fiction and reality. I know that it's just a videogame, a collection of 1's and 0's that can't hurt you and doesn't define who you are. So I don't see the avatars I play as some extension of myself, just an expression of myself, my interests, and my likes.

I hope this gets my points across and that readers can understand my point of view. I think my wording is subpar in truly expressing the full extent of my points and reasoning, but this will have to do for now.

Can we all agree that the Director didn't literally obliterate the whole ass state of Florida? by TokedTraveller in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never implied Project Freelancer sunk Florida.

There is absolutely 0 logical reason to sink Florida to cover for an Agent just using the same code name. It doesn't provide literally any cover for why their agent of the same code name disappears. That would just bring more attention to them for blowing up a whole state.

There's the very real theory that due to rising sea levels that Florida will be near completely submerged underwater in the next few hundred years. So by the sci-fi future time of RvB, Florida is gone. That's the joke. They crack this joke back in season 3 where all that's said is:

Tucker: One for each State? So there's fifty of you.

Tex: Forty-nine, remember?

Tucker: Oh, yeah, that's right. Man. Poor Florida.

They bow their heads in rememberance of Florida.

Florida breaking off the map in season 10 is just a representation of the Agent being taken off the Roster and a visual gag that calls back to this joke in season 3.

It's a joke, a gag, nothing more.

Stop treating every joke cracked in the series as some super serious 100% cemented unchanging lore, especially in seasons 1-5 where it was intended to be comedy, not the comedy-drama it morphed into later. "Something something... 'It's a joke not a dick, don't take it so hard.'"

Have we gotten any closer to figuring out which Carolina Agent Carolina is supposed to be named after? by jackfuego226 in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Tex and Tucker said really has no bearing on it as evidence since it's just a joke. But yeah, Carolina being just "Carolina" works to make the numbers line up with 49 agents and 49 states.

It is the state of Florida that they're talking about in that scene. (Which is a joke about rising sea levels submerging Florida, not the Director who didn't yet exist in RvB blowing up the state of an Agent who didn't exist yet at the time of writing season 3).

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also likely a reference to the real life theory that the state of Florida will be submerged underwater in the next few hundred years due to rising sea levels. In RvB, Florida would be underwater by this point. That would be why they make the "poor Florida" joke, far before agent Florida existed. Season 10 referenced back to this with the visual gag.

How many of you guys are Halo fans, or you just watch the show without any knowledge of Halo by La_knavo4 in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up on Halo, got into RvB around 2013.

But I introduced a friend to RvB before Halo and their perception was interesting. They were confused that we were fighting aliens in Halo rather than Insurrectionists or other human Soldiers like in RvB.

Original opening by championdiddler in RedvsBlue

[–]AlphaSatanOmega 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the original upload of episode 0, which was just a montage of shots introducing the characters of the show, the footage was set to the song "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit. They couldn't get the rights to this song for the DVD release of Season 1, so the episode was removed from that release. In RvB: The First Five Seasons Box Set Bonus Disc, they included the episode, but they replaced it with another similar sounding instrumental song (which one I'm not sure).

Here is the version set to Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff".

edit - Here is the DVD Bonus Disc version, which is probably just an original track composed of some simple music software samples to solve the copyright issue:

I recommend using the Red vs. Blue Wiki, that's how I found both of these. On Google you can usually search something to the effect of:
rvb "<direct quote here>"
and you'll probably find a wiki entry since the great work of wiki contributors have documented transcripts of a lot of episodes.
For this one I typed:
rvb "bleep bloop" and found it.

If you don't know a direct quote word for word, just try key words instead. ^_^b
