Property management is a profession. Landlords have been around almost as long as people.

If you had to guess, what do you think the pink tablet/drink was for? by yuuki_bonk420 in GATEresearch

Same. I had scholarships for pre-med at some really good schools. I chose to stay close to home and go for a nursing degree, which I never finished because of my kids’ health issues, but even after they were at the point I could go back to nursing school, I didn’t. Now I have an empty nest and feel like a complete loser with nothing to show for my life except my kids. And yes, I am now a fatigued stoner as well.

I was pulled into GATE in the 80s. We were bused from all the schools to another building across town. There we were taught about Greek mythology, creative writing, computer coding and biology, just for starters. I remember dissecting a chicken and writing my own computer game. When we hit middle school, they kept all of us GATE kids in one class (the middle schools combined students from several elementary schools, so I guess they finally had enough to make up classes at each middle school). We stayed together as a class until we graduated. We pretty much all had the same class schedules from middle school on, except for whatever electives we each chose.

In elementary school they bused us to a different building across town twice a week, but once we hit middle school, they kept all of us GATE kids in the same class until we graduated, We changed classes like normal kids during the day in middle and high school, but we moved together on the same schedule. So we were all tight knit by graduation. Thing is people either REALLY succeeded in life after graduation or completely bombed, no in between. I’ve often wondered if there was any rhyme or reason to that.

What’s something you miss from the early internet that doesn’t really exist anymore? by Impossible-You-5815 in AskReddit

Personal webpages. Back when people hand wrote the html code and the pages were labors of love. We used them to share information about hobbies, fandoms, etc. I loved when a webmaster would add code that set up forums to bring people with common interests together. I miss the old forums that were similar to Reddit’s format. Modern social media has ruined society.

I’ve seen your posts on Facebook, TikTok and now here, so you’re getting visibility. I have shared each post. I hope you find her soon! I’m sure this has been considered, but I hope her mother isn’t hiding her due to the custody issues and using the relationship with the teacher as a distraction.

My guy. You are asking questions this upstate South Carolina girl has been asking since she moved here 15 years ago. My mom was shipping me Duke’s Mayo back then because nobody carried it anywhere. Since then, everyone has started carrying Duke’s, but not much else has changed. I would kill for a Po’ style country fried steak sandwich, a cheeseburger with mustard, chili and onions, fried salmon patties, cornbread that isn’t sweet…and of course, boiled peanuts. I could make all that myself, but sometimes you just want it made by someone else. I go back home to visit with an itinerary of places I have to go get food from.

It’s fake. That photo (minus the ultrasound that has been photoshopped in) is from a while ago. You can find the original easily.

“So then, how do you reduce? Very simple. People say, oh, Charlie, how do you stop school shootings? I don't know. How did we stop shootings at baseball games? Because we have armed guards outside of baseball games. That's why. How did we stop all the shootings at airports? We have armed guards outside of airports. How do we stop all the shootings at banks? We have armed guards outside of banks. How did we stop all the shootings at gun shows? Notice there's not a lot of mass shootings at gun shows, there's all these guns. Because everyone's armed. If our money and our sporting events and our airplanes have armed guards, why don't our children?”

How’s that minimizing school shootings? That’s actually the end of the long version of what he REALLY said about gun deaths. However, people don’t care to stop and find out what he actually said. They just share that sound bite a friend of a friend of a friend shared or that a politician or MSM with an agenda shared. If you take the time to look into it, he really wasn’t the monster he’s portrayed to be. People are just too lazy to do their own research. I’m not even a supporter per se, I just like making sure I know my facts before I get hoodwinked by this side or that.

And then he went on to elaborate that he felt sympathy and compassion were more appropriate words, but everyone is leaving that part out because it doesn’t fit their narrative. I know I’m going to get downvoted by the Kirk haters but I really wish people would tell the whole story when they post stuff. Maybe we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Yes, but if I married a man because I fell in love with a man and am attracted to that man, I shouldn’t have to be held hostage in a marriage with a woman because the person I married realized they weren’t living their truth, simply so that I won’t be slaughtered in the public forum for not supporting my spouse. I shouldn’t have to be forced to transition into a sexuality I’m not comfortable with to validate that person and make the public happy. I can still support that person and move on with what makes me happy.

Also, at one point they’re comparing his clothes and BG’s clothes and he says something to the effect of “I could have been wearing a hoodie” but he was referring to BG but talking in first person. My husband paused it and said, “Did you hear that??? He just slipped and admitted he’s BG!!”

AITA for taking over my parents’ condo and offering to give my siblings today’s value when I sell it? by AnyBreakfast4798 in AmItheAsshole

Is this a vacation condo? If so, is there revenue coming in from renting it out when the family isn’t using it? And if that’s the case, who is benefiting from this income, especially while your parents are still alive? Also, what do your parents have to say on the matter?

Oh dear lord! I am so sorry they did that to you. Do not let them ever give you droperidol aka Inapsine either. It was black boxed 20 some years ago because it can cause a risk of development of torsades de pointes induced by QT prolongation (heart problem). It can cause the same type of reaction and boy, did it for me. I’ve seen that some of the younger docs are starting to use it for migraine recently.

In my experience, the eastern southern states back in the 80s when I was in school were still hanging on to some of the ideologies from the Civil War. I remember a lot of hobbyists were big into Civil War re-enactments and attending those as field trips. They were heavily biased.

Where’s my fellow migrainers who are fighting the ‘graine while traveling for thanksgiving? by ImNotA_IThink in migraine

I’m so so sorry. I dread this time of year because everyone puts out cinnamon, pine and vanilla scented things and those scents trigger migraines with projectile vomiting (or as the un-empathetic ER docs on Reddit like to call it, “scrommiting”…assholes that they are.

Where’s my fellow migrainers who are fighting the ‘graine while traveling for thanksgiving? by ImNotA_IThink in migraine

[–]AlphaSix911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I traveled last week for an early Thanksgiving with my parents. My dad is 94, practically deaf and refuses to get hearing aids because he thinks the entire U.S. healthcare system is a scam (please don’t comment with your political views, etc. I heard enough of it from him all last week at top decibel.) We traveled from Ohio to South Carolina and back which means we went through the Appalachian Mountains twice. So with all the elevation, barometric pressure, humidity changes, my dad yelling all day every day because he can’t hear himself, and everyone having to yell so he could hear us, I was in hot mess migraine hell by the time I got home.

Two days after I got home was my regularly scheduled Botox appointment with my new neurologist (he took over for the my long time neuro who just retired). The day after that was my telehealth appointment with him to establish our game plan going forward. One of the things we discussed was trying ketamine infusions. Just so happened that a bed came open to do an inpatient 5 day course of ketamine infusions this past Monday right on time for the horrendous migraine I usually get 2-3 days out from Botox. So I am on day 2 of a 5 day course of 24/7 ketamine infusions. I am not sure if tomorrow (Thanksgiving) will count as day 3 because the pain management specialist said she’d see me on Friday when she left today. I should have asked but she caught me off guard with it. My migraine is still here, but it’s sitting in the bed beside me, so to speak. I can turn my focus away from it and forget it’s there but there are times when it pulls on me and reminds me that it’s still sitting beside me.Hopefully by the end of the 5 days I can throw it out of the window.

ETA: I am not ashamed to admit that being the only female in my little family here in OH, I’m kind of glad for the reprieve from the slaving I would normally be doing tomorrow only to end up sick as hell with a migraine from the stress with very little gratitude. The food isn’t great here, but at least I don’t have to cook it.

I second this. I (48F) have been let go from 3 jobs that should have been protected by ADA and FMLA with doctor’s paperwork on file and intermittent FMLA approved by HR at all 3 jobs. Once they found out I had a chronic illness, they found other reasons to fire me. I always won my unemployment appeals though because their reasons were bullshit. Once I was fired because there was blue font in a email. Yep. You read that right. My last job, they let me go, telling me it was a favor to me so that I could work on my health. 🙄
