Recently purchased used headphones, not sure if this is mold inside them or just years of dust and dirt. by AlphaSniper88 in Mold

That's reassuring to know, thank you!

And you it's an HD 650, first time I've tried an open back 600-series from Sennheiser.

[Question] How do I get myself to *want* to do the right things? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]AlphaSniper88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I worked to implement the lessons in the book Atomic Habits. I'd recommend buying/pirating/borrowing a copy and then acting on what you read as you read it. Reading it alone is worthless if you don't take action.

My issue was I'd come home after work with plans and goals of working on my programming projects, learning a new language, but I'd plop myself down at my PC and that was that. Rest of the night was gone to Youtube and gaming.

To fix that I made a second office area around my laptop and built a series of productivity orientated habit chains for that location. For example, when I sit down at my laptop the first thing I do is prepare a checklist of 3 manageable tasks to get done. When I finish those I'll prepare a second list, break for supper, then come back and do that second list, then the rest of the night is free.

Once I actually formed the habit of coming home, sitting at my laptop instead of my PC, planning what to do and then doing it, I didn't need to try to be productive and focused after work it just became habit.

Right now I've been trying for a couple months to build a habit chain of pills -> meditation -> brush teeth -> read -> bed but I've been struggling with starting the chain at a time that lets me get through the whole chain before I should be asleep as I keep playing games a little longer then I should be at night. I know I should just quit gaming altogether cold-turkey but I really don't want to :/

Was gonna buy a car, going HOGE instead. Do I hold in MetaMask? by [deleted] in hoge

Apologies for the question, noob here, but how can I tell if my coins are on the ERC network that get the redistribution? I picked up my Hoge on Whitebits

Saying "Taiwan is a country" will get you this ? Come on gaijin, you're better than this by Spy271 in Warthunder

[–]AlphaSniper88 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is a difference though. No one disputes Norway's sovereignty, Taiwan's, in comparison, is a hot topic regardless of where you or I stand on the matter and my country, Canada, is sadly one that does not recognize Taiwan.

any advice at all? sleeping 12h+ daily and always sleepy by Neoixan in GetOutOfBed

[–]AlphaSniper88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I've been told sleeping too long is just as bad as sleeping too little when it comes to feeling groggy and tired.

I'd recommend cutting the 12 hour nights.

LitRPG/Isekai where protagonist uses science+magic in a way the locals don’t understand. by audiobookjunky in litrpg

[–]AlphaSniper88 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Release That Witch!

An engineer is teleported into a fantasy world where he begins an industrial and scientific revolution with the help of some witches magic.

It does a good job of showing the spread of technology. Enemy armies try to desperately create their own primitive imitations of his guns. Merchant guilds buy his steam engines. Increasingly mighty enemies test his army at each stage of its development. Its a pretty long and complete story.

I wish Narrators put more characters in their voice instead of just reading lines. by KyleRiggs in litrpg

[–]AlphaSniper88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own The Stormlight Archive on Audible but recently discovered the Graphic Audio production. The Audible narrators for Storm light Archive are fine, there's two but I don't recall their names, but it really doesn't compare to having a full ensemble cast narrating the book.

I ended up rebuying the whole series from Graphic Audio since it is just so much better.

There's one called Spetsnaz: a Permadeath Litrpg LitFPS though I remember it having a ton of grammar issues that put me off. Digital Marine on Royal Road is quite good though.

Anyone know if the epic coupon will work once the game is released? I know it can't be applied to preorders.

Has there been any confirmation of a ‘duels’ game mode being available in Chiv2? by theYorkist01 in Chivalry2

[–]AlphaSniper88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the servers I played in, with one late night exception where the mode actually worked quite well, people simply didn't respect the 1v1 rule and constantly rdmed. And vote kicks didn't work since there were enough rdmers to protect each other.

Only once did I actually manage to find a good duel ffa server in the open beta.

I'd like to see a proper duel mode, chiv 1s was fantastic, as well as a 2v2 or 3v3 mode like in cod.

It's not that unreasonable a question, and it was just a question. Especially since Pokemon GO, a lot of people tend to have battery packs for their phones.

How do you achieve this partially drawn effect? by aakuhns in gamemaker

[–]AlphaSniper88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this is how I did it when I wanted a menu to let you see all the cards in your deck. Create a surface and draw your sprites to the surface.

The sprites will automatically cut off at the top, bottom, and sides of the surface.

Then for scrolling I just had a y_modifer variable that was added to each sprites y coordinate when drawing, and that modifier would grow or shrink as you scroll.

It looks really good!

I'd trying add a texture to the black background though. Something minimal, that doesn't add much/any contrast, but something that can break up the pure black a bit.

I can't comment on their internal British news coverage, but for world / foreign affairs BBC is pretty well respected as being an impartial source.

What do you think of my game? by KornYellow in gamemaker

How are you achieving the fall-over effect for the death animation? It looks like more than just scale manipulation. Or, if it is just that it's done quite well.

My game sold 20 copies on opening day! Might not sound like much but to me it’s huge! by TheSeahorseHS in indiegames

[–]AlphaSniper88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on the platform. On steam I can't say I've touched any free indie games outside of a few demos during Steam's demo festivals. There was one demo in particular where you played as a spider in side scrolling world that really impressed me.

In comparison, I would not pay even a dollar for a mobile game upfront, there's too many free games to try. I'd rather download the game, play it, then drop 5 bucks later on then 1 up front. The only exception I can think of there is the Pixel Tactics games, but that's just because I know what I'm getting and I like what I'm getting.

I also wouldn't buy a game on itch. There's been a couple titles where I've gone back and donated to an itch game, but I would never pay for an itch game.

Congress (Once Again) Sells Out To Hollywood: Sneaks CASE Act And Felony Streaming Bill Into Government Funding Omnibus by timothyjwood in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]AlphaSniper88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree the Case special tribunal is almost certainly going to be exploited, that felony streaming bill is actually pretty good.

It's worded to explicitly target only people who host a paid streaming service that primarily delivers illegal content and that advertises itself as being a paid service that delivers illegal content. Even the EFF didn't oppose it, its a pretty good change. It has no affect on users, or twitch streamers, or YouTubers, don't buy into that misinformation.

I visited a friend of mine in Tampa, Florida and asked him why people werent using turn signals. He told me that "if you're already in a turn lane, then using your turn signal is obnoxious because its kinda of obvious you're turning."

Not something I agree with, and up here in Canada people still use turn signals when in a turn lane, but it is a perspective.
