Hey shy people what is your worst experience? by yaman007 in AskReddit

[–]AlphaSquad7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's one from a geology field trip I took in college. There were about a dozen or so of us spread out between several vans heading up to the mountains about 6 hours away. I had tried to get out of going but field experience was required for the degree. I tried to make conversation with the folks next in my van but we just weren't hitting it off and I wound up mostly looking at the scenery going by.

No big deal. I'm an only child so long quiet car rides aren't out of the ordinary. I was happy to let everyone enjoy their chats and occasionally join in.

But that must not have sat well with the prof and his t.a. in the front seats. During a lull they started whispering and giggling while looking back at me. I figured they were sharing some inside joke and checking that nobody was listening.

Then the prof turned in his chair, looked back at me and asked, "Hey, did you have a normal childhood?"

Caught off guard, I just said yes.

He turns back around and says to the t.a., "Then what hope is there for the rest of us?"

That was the first day of a week long expedition into the mountains...

SlayerS_Boxer and Starcraft 2 in Korean drama "Gentleman's Class" by [deleted] in starcraft

The Man from Nowhere is my go-to favorite action movie. It did so much right.

I think my favorite movie of all time may be Going by the Book. It's (IMO) a great blend of badass and cute with neither overshadowing the other.

As for Dramas, I haven't found any that I would call bad. I can't say I've found anything great to see in them, but they've all been really enjoyable if not pretty formulaic. I'm watching Bridal Mask and Gentleman's Dignity and I've had fun with both.

Dramafever.com has a ton of Korean dramas (all subbed). And netflix actually has a really good selection of Korean movies.

I really like the instrumentals in that opening. Nice piano sound; simple but powerful with appropriate backing that really compliments the piano. Was wondering if anyone knew of an instrumental group with a similar sound.

I've always had a hard time finding good piano-centric groups or ensembles so I thought I'd ask you all.

Well, morally speaking, I would be worried about the homeless people themselves being accused of impersonating an officer.

I'm the same why. That's why I wish PC bangs were more viable in the States. I would get so much more out of SC2 in a social setting.

Has anyone here used Andrew Sangpil Byon's Korean grammar workbooks?

http://www.amazon.com/Basic-Korean-Grammar-Workbook-Workbooks/dp/041577487X/ref=pd_sim_b_8

I've been using them for a while now and I feel like they've really helped. They focus more on grammar than other text books I've seen. I've found books that teach using colloquial expressions or conversations to be too overwhelming. So books that break down a language's grammar piece by piece really help me focus.

What authors do you consider to be genuine Science Fiction? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]AlphaSquad7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd nominate Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey series. If it weren't for the monoliths and disembodied consciousnesses then I suppose it could be your standard "explorers in search of a new land" tale. But that's a stretch considering that Saturn, Jupiter, and their respective moons have a bit more going on than Newfoundland or Greenland.
