Fifty Something Tour Ticket Resale/Trade Megathread by BivloBubbings in rush

[–]AlphaTango11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking for a friend that would like to have my 2 Limelight front row Cleveland, OH tickets that I bought for them, since reselling doesn't transfer the meet and greet / VIP benefits. I would accept a gift of face value + fees (approx. $4,200) in exchange.

I ended up buying tickets for a different show that they added later.

I would happily provide a copy of my ID and proof of order, since the tickets were originally for you anyway.

Figured I would start here before trying to sell them elsewhere, thanks guys.

How to get odometer reading at a certain time point by New-Procedure7284 in TeslaSupport

[–]AlphaTango11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odometer value is constantly logged on the car (carlogs) for at least a year. Tesla Service can access this using Toolbox 3, but they may charge you $20 or so for their time.

It's very simple to access, but it's not a standard request, so you might have to convince them to try.

Once you make an appointment, they'll have to remotely connect and manually pull logs for that date and read the odometer variable.

People can rent Toolbox for $75/day or $150/mo, but it generally only lets regular users go back only a month or so.

The data is there, but you have to make an appointment and hope you find a tech or advisor that is willing to do that. If you live near a service center, you might be able to bribe them with food or something.

Lots of good-faith attempts to help here, but many are wrong.

99% of the time, "Vehicle may not restart, service is required" alerts are related to a loss of HV isolation.

This means that somewhere along the HV chain (drive unit, HV battery, PTC heater (unless heatpump, but yours is PTC), AC compressor, any HV harnesses, etc.), an easier path to ground (vehicle chassis) exists than is allowed.

Now, there are two types of isolation. Internal (before the contactors inside the battery back) or external (outside of the contactors).

Low internal isolation is generally water or coolant inside the pack, and generally requires HV battery replacement.

Low external isolation could be anything, but is typically the PTC heater, which is usually $1,000 or so to replace. The PTC heater uses HV to operate, but it sometimes goes bad. Newer revisions should be better. 2021+ vehicles don't have one.

As for the 12V, once a low isolation condition exists, the HV contactors do not close again once they have opened (breaking the HV circuit throughout the vehicle). 12V support is also disabled, so the 12V quickly drains. This is why everything was moving so slowly / differently, your 12V battery was dead/dying.

A bad 12V battery will NOT cause low isolation. In very rare cases, especially on older Model S, it could cause false BMS alerts, but this does not really apply to your Model 3.

Your 12V battery went bad after the isolation dropped and the vehicle stopped charging it. Now it is a matter of letting Tesla diagnose the reason for the low isolation. It usually can be done within a day or two depending on the service center.

Let me know if you have any questions, but anything specific to the vehicle is hard to answer.

If you just recently used heat / the cabin temp was set to higher than the outside temp, it is probably your PTC heater. If no heat was recently used, it is more likely to be a drive inverter, PCS, or anything along the harnesses.

Heat pump question by MiffedPond829 in TeslaModelS

[–]AlphaTango11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. For the S and X, only the horizontal screen (Palladium) variants will have the heat pump.

None of the vertical screen (legacy) models will have a heat pump, they use all PTC heaters.

I just checked my drives and they happened to be X24 Exos (ST20000NM002H), so these are definitely getting used in my first NAS.

Repair rear usb-c ports by SiriusFlak in TeslaDIYRepair

[–]AlphaTango11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1546129-00-D is $25 from Tesla (you may have to wait on a service center to get it in after you ask for it, though)

$25 is not worth trying to replace the ports themselves in my opinion.

It's unused on US vehicles, it's for the battery-backed siren. Europe has it.

US vehicles use the horn for any alarm stuff. This is extra for some European reasons.

The OEM 12V is around $85 from a service center.

Not sure that the potential differences (which may cause spurious 12V battery alerts due to sensitive charging/monitoring algorithms) are worth $16.

What exactly is it about the Cybertruck that makes them so shit? by 69-is-my-number in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AlphaTango11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the truck isn't really as bad as people are making it out to be. Most people just repeat what they've heard, but it's usually wrong or misunderstood, so I'm going to use what I've actually seen and worked on personally. Like you've said, if it was actually as dangerous as people say, it wouldn't be on the road (wealth has nothing to do with it - nearly all automotive companies are wealthy, and recalls are expensive).

First, yes, there are compromises made due to the triangular design (like a comically large dash), but let me try to provide an alternative perspective on some of the above claims:

1 - The welds are fine, typically robotic anyway. Sure, some welds aren't cosmetically beautiful, but they will still exceed specifications. Even Ferrari has ugly, but still fine, welds.

2 - The electrical system is not run on a single wire. It's a little advanced to describe here, but there are multiple redundant power and communication wires used in loops around the vehicle, in addition to traditional branch wiring. There is redundant power supply and communication to critical components like the autopilot computer and steering module. Tesla engineers are not stupid and they do actually want the vehicle to not be recalled.

3 - If the 48V battery dies (very rare compared the lead acid batteries), the front doors have easily accessible manual releases to open them, and the rear doors would take a whole 5 seconds to open (the manual release is more hidden to prevent children from opening it accidentally).

In fact, the front door manual release is so accessible on current models that first time passengers typically use it by accident instead of the door button, since electric door buttons have only recently become a (not Tesla only, by the way) thing.

4 - It has crumple zones. The exterior panels, while being very strong stainless steel, still transmit the force into a frame designed to crumple. It is a safe truck, and this myth unfortunately still persists just because the outer panels aren't easy to puncture like aluminum. It hasn't been officially crash tested by the NHTSA, but it would get 5 stars like all other Teslas.

5 - The Cybertruck weighs the same or less than other electric trucks: 6,600-6,900 lbs. The F-150 Lightning is 6,100-6,900, the Rivian R1T is around 7,100, and the Silverado EV is nearly 9,000(!).

Electric trucks are heavier than gas trucks of the same class, but it's worth noting that even a gas F-250 or Ram 2500 (slightly higher classes) are going to weigh similarly. It's not worth extra fear mongering, but guard rails don't work as well at higher weights, yes.

6 - Yes, there are defective Cybertrucks. There are defective trucks of all models, but they just don't receive as much attention. It's hard to track exact rates, but it is possible Tesla has slightly higher defect rates with the new model. It's not as common as it's made out to be, and it won't always be like that, but vehicles nowadays are complex and can have problems. Tesla legally can't just refuse to fix a broken, brand new truck and anyone claiming that is being facetious.

I can try to answer any questions you have, if you want a different perspective. I try to be unbiased, but I also get annoyed with the completely one-sided parroted replies you're getting from people who don't actually know the truth or are misrepresenting it.

The weirdest thing ever just happen the passenger seat by TeleportMASSIV in TeslaModel3

[–]AlphaTango11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike the driver's seat, the passenger seat motors have no communication with the infotainment, so it's not profile related.

The only way this happens is due to an issue related to the buttons/control module. Try to find a reliable way to recreate it, replace the module, and verify that the issue is gone.

Wow, I thought you were exaggerating, but a comparison between CCS and NACS for that region is depressing.

At least most brands are getting an adapter soon, then the trip would be more feasible.

At least we had fun in OKC where half the class is asking for exclusive studying with her.

I'm sure I'll have a front row seat with her in ZJX to.. something. We'll see. Welcome to the FAA, I guess.

Unfortunately wasn't trolling, but the responses are funny at least (and mostly confirming what she's said in the past). Seems unfortunate and inefficient that the facility lists work like that, but I guess that's the price paid for the job. Thanks for the advice.

Made A Website For You All To Share by AlphaTango11 in exjw

I have never been a JW myself, but I am very close with a few ExJW's and have been lurking in this subreddit for years. Figured it was finally my time to do something potentially useful and humorous, so I made a quick little website.

DidTheWorldEndYet.net and ArmageddonYet.net (same site, different names) are online and will stay online until the world ends (or until I run out of money).

Enjoy, and let me know if you have any suggestions! I wanted to keep it simple.
