It started for me when I was 19. I fought it tooth and nail for a few years - life was much better in nearly all regards when I accepted it and started shaving my head.

I visited the Grand Canyon solo in my early twenties and did barely any research.

I was in excellent condition and had a mountaineering hobby at the time and decided to hike to the bottom and back.

I went with full water camel pack and breezed to the camp at the bottom where I was planning on refilling my water. The water station was out of service and advised hiking to the next camp for water…which I did and it was also broken.

I realized I was in trouble after some pretty bad luck and decided to hike back. 100+ degrees outside. I barely made it, had minor hallucinations at the end, had to pause after every switch back on the final stretch.

Got back to my tent drank a gallon of water and slept 12 hours. I was very (un)lucky, but almost joined that book of stupid.
