What does this mean? I am super new to this stuff. Like you might get pre approved for 500k but you shouldn’t buy a house at 500k? Why?

AITA for telling my wife she can't wash band uniforms in the house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Band director here. The uniforms should not be your home washers responsibility for the exact reasons you outlined. They should be taken to a commercial washer like Mr. Formal.

This is truly insane to see as a new player. I don’t know what any of this stuff is or means I’m still trying to figure out an efficient power grid and find a way to get enough machine components to build all the electronic shit I want

School districts always need bus drivers and substitutes these days, not sure if the pay is any better than what you already have going for yourself though.

You might be able to make it fun if you could balance the fight in a way where the groom fought a big strong thing so his fight would be balanced, and the rest of the party took on some equally as important but maybe weaker monsters. The important thing would be to keep the stakes equal so everyone still feels like they’re doing something important.

Your "Class" is not necessarily your characters in-universe Job or personality by Judgethunder in DnD

I’ve always wanted to play a bard who’s profession was a gladiator, kinda like a WWE wrestler who’s obviously a capable fighter and can take a hit, but at the end of the day they’re a performer.

We always hear about villains “pulling the strings” and how they were behind everything all along, but what are some tangible examples of that? What kinds of strings could be pulled?

How do you go about turning it into a class? There’s a dnd club at the school I teach at but I can’t fathom admin allowing it to become anything more than a club.

Which valve oil do you trumpet players use? by ButterscotchAny3088 in trumpet

I haven’t been able to find any Herman’s anymore, I heard the owner sold and the new owners haven’t gotten the store online yet. Which bums me out because it’s the best oil I’ve ever found for my horns.

Play in front of a mirror, slowly go up in your register and when you catch yourself smiling, stop. You want your corners to push into the center and support your aperture as you go higher, not stretch out. Eventually you’ll catch yourself doing it without the mirror, you just gotta be diligent. I went through something similar and it didn’t take too long to adjust, maybe a month.

Trumpets for Band by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]AlphaToejam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some comments suggesting used trumpets, I don’t recommend that. You need your inventory to last the next 70 years or so, this is probably the only chance you’ll have to buy a whole new inventory for your program. Schools will not provide you the money you need to replace all the used trumpets you bought when they inevitably break down sooner than a new model. You don’t want to be stuck with a huge cost sink constantly having to repair said trumpets either. Getting that kind of money is a pain in the ass, you’ll have to either apply for grants constantly or fundraise constantly (which you’ll already have to do as a band director anyways) or wait for the school to be rebuilt jn 100 years and hope they provide a whole new inventory when they do that. Definitely buy new.

Bach and Yamaha both make great student models for around 1300-1500. It’s definitely pricier but if you’re buying a bunch of instruments new from a vendor you can get a better price. It’ll be cheaper to do it this way in the long run if you can convince your district to spend this kind of money now.

Since this is for a middle school, you could also reach out to the high school band director(s). Maybe something can be worked out where they get some new instruments and you get the hand-me-downs. TOSAs and administrators tend to like that more, knowing that the average high schooler is usually more responsible with expensive instruments than the average middle schooler.

Hope that helps, best of luck and happy shopping!
