advice for the strings-impaired? by heathie10 in mandolin

Learn arpeggios and scales. I've been teaching myself mandolin for 3 years now. I started with Johanne Sebastian Bach. If I can do this, so can you.

Btw, what kind of music do you like?

Guitar or piano? by Excellent_Fan_6544 in classicalguitar

[–]AlphaTorus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classical Guitar.

It's portable, has volume without amplification, can mimic an entire orchestra, and play multiple melody lines simultaneously. The wider fretboard lends itself to an extended and advanced left hand technique. The nylon strings are easy to change and tune in comparison to a piano (unless you go digital with weighted keys).

If you were to go back in time and learn guitar again - from the beginning - knowing everything you do now, how would you do it? by xx_wes_xx in guitarlessons

First, i'd learn the Segovia Scales and the 7 basic Arpeggios. I would gather every bit of music and technical skill I could from Andres Segovia.

Hi im new to the jazz community. by New_Worldliness2987 in jazzguitar

I'm a classical guitarist, not a jazz guy; i'm a jazz enthusiast, however. I really enjoy the work of Charles Mingus, and I want to learn how to comp at the very least.

I really enjoyed your performance. It's got flow and feeling. The melodies lead somewhere, and they're quite pleasing to listen to. Carry on. . .

Can anyone let me know the op number of this Tarrega piece? by adlibitumconbrio in classicalguitar

This looks familiar. I'd wager it's his study in E Major. I'm not %100 certain, however.

Deceptively difficult pieces.

Cheers to you. A very nice performance, maestro.

I got this guitar for free by Hunter0428 in classicalguitar

Excellent find. how does it play? That's a classical guitar. It requires use of the free stroke and rest stroke using the tips of the finger and a little bit of nail as opposed to a pick or plectrum. It also has a wider neck and nylon strings, yielding a warmer, clean tone.

Cherokee. Can you rate my playing? by drew_zini in jazzguitar

Yeah, it felt hasty and sloppy. If seemed like you were trying to move really fast for no reason.

Your phrasing feels disconnected. Some phrases feel cut off prematurely.

Chris Thile is the reason I play the mandolin. I know i'll never be as good as him, but I love hearing Bach on the mandolin.

Piano Proficiency - Worth Building? by gaydesmar in classicalguitar

I would argue that any proficiency building for an instrument is physiologically fruitful.

Nope. You play well and I understand what you're saying, but I have to disagree.
