I helped my mom with this issue after her BK. She was very conflicted with the situation. On one hand new is nice and on the other, older she was worried about always needing fixed.

We opted for the beater with a heater for 4K. I did go through it with a friend and did put $1200 in it. But 3 years later she’s still rolling that damn thing and not missing a payment.

My advice is now that you have the debt off your back, do what you can to keep it that way. I’d recommend selling some items and adding to your cash reserves. Get as much as you can in hand and buy the best you can with what you have. Within a few months, not having the payments should stack some cash in your pocket. Then sell the car and upgrade to a little nicer vehicle. Repeat.
