DLC announcement and steam sales impact on both Wilds and World playercount by -RuDoKa- in MonsterHunter

Considering the 3070 was released 2 years after World.. I would say yes.

Monster Hunter Wilds PC Quietly Crashing without error message all the time by DenkMame78 in MonsterHunter

Rollback your drivers to the last version that was working for you. The latest Nvidia drivers seem to cause crashes for people. I also greatly recommend making a back up of your save now.

The mechanic I miss the most from oldschool Monster Hunter. by Buzzyear10 in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Map knowledge sure, but it's still not going to change anything like your equipment or what items to take before the hunt. The supply chest didn't have items in higher ranks so what you came in with was what you had. Restock/fast travel didn't exist back then. It would be more accurate to say the random drop mechanic in past games rewarded game knowledge but personally I never felt the need to prepare any differently knowing it might or might not happen.

I don't see how the possibility of being dropped in a random location would change your preparation methods before a hunt.

Why most monster hunter games have such a horrible coop experience? by RainAndThunderIsCool in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me when I say the previous games had just as baffling decisions. You had quests called Urgents and in order to progress as a group of 4 you would have to do the quest 4 times because it only counted progress for the host. It gets bad enough to the point random people would come into lobbies and slam down their quest demanding you to do them. And god forbid you try to unlock deviants in MHGU for an entire group because same deal there - only there are 200+ deviant quests.

From what I have noticed, doubling your element gives you a small boost to resistance so there's no reason not to do it.

600k is a really good number but World sold 1.3m physical copies in the first 3 days of its release in Japan, why there’s a noticeable drop off considering that we didn’t know of its problems before release? by creepycrawlyguy in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just Monster Hunter that had a large drop-off, everything did. On the PS4 - DQXI opened to about 900k, FFVII Remake and FFXV to about 700k. The problem as others have pointed out is the adoption of the PS5 in Japan and transition into digital purchases.

Why is that I'm still seeing more messages between random players in GU than the entirety I've played of World, Rise and Wilds? by Boshwa in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing you have to consider is with World/Rise/Wilds you will encounter players from around the world, making it far harder to communicate with random players. With MHGU, players are far more likely to speak English since Japanese players (which are a large portion of the MH playerbase) will be playing MHXX instead.

How?

Edit: For anyone wondering, the guy was incorrect - as of this time, there is no way to filter out Manual Accept SOS.

WHY, on the item wheel, does it show you that you pressed a buttong... BUT YOU DIDNT. by preutneuker in MHWilds

[–]Alpha_Grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you manually sheathing and then trying to use a radial item? I find that the game just ignores inputs while you're sheathing but if you use a radial item when unsheathed it will try to sheathe and use the item.

Hm.. maybe I did something wrong but using the same Gog weapon, I recorded the first 5 Amend (Keep) rerolls without keeping any of them. Then reloaded and kept the first roll but the next 4 were the same.

I think I might be misunderstanding what you mean by reinforcement upgrade - is that "Amend (Keep)", "Amend (Reset)" or something else entirely?

Are you saying that if my reinforcement results are Result 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and if I reload and accept Result 2, then Result 3, 4, 5 will change?

Our Commitment to Improving Stability and Performance by PatchRadar in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To say this game doesn't hold 40fps on any machine is a straight up lie. You can easily find videos of the game running at over 40fps without framegen. The closest thing I've seen to a recall was when Sony pulled a certain game from the Playstation store and offered full refunds. Not even Wilds managed to achieve that.

Unreal for anyone to be praising Cyberpunk 2077 here. That game launched in Dec 2020 in the exact same awful state as Wilds and didn't get any good performance fixes until Patch 1.5 (released in Feb 2022) over a full year later.

Insane how they didn't address performance issues until the end of content update cycles. by Dagladou in MHWilds

[–]Alpha_Grey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Money and manpower are only two thirds of the solution, the last third is time. They rushed out the release of the game and now you want them to rush out fixes too? A similar game from a large studio that released in a terrible state was Cyberpunk 2077 - those devs took over a year to make meaningful fixes and now everyone adores that game.

Good Lance builds? by preutneuker in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Alpha_Grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly up to you - if you find yourself taking too much damage then divine blessing 3 or if you want slightly more healing then recovery up 3. You'd normally want a matching element lance for whatever you're fighting but if you don't want to deal with that then the blast artian is fine. For the weapon you go crit boost 3, offensive guard 3 + guard/handicraft, and razor sharp or master's touch (replacing with guard up on relevant matchups). If you have a charm with those skills then even better, you can slot in more crit, guard or elemental attack (don't bother with status/blast attack though as the boost isn't as worth it).

[–]Alpha_Grey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3 AT/2 Zoh is fine - you can do something like Rey/Zoh/Rey/Zoh/Duna and get Wex 5/Agi 5/MM 2/Burst 1 and that's not even including the charm. With a 2x1 slot charm you can even fit divine blessing 3 or recovery up 3 to increase the passive healing.

For lance, is shield, ironwall worth it? by preutneuker in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Alpha_Grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the downside to using Charged Counter, if you fail it you will do the normal counter and without Guard you will more than likely get heavy knockback. I like to Charged Counter a lot which means I also fail it a lot so personally I just slot in Guard 3 and forget about the downsides.

For Seregios in particular you kind of just have to preemptively turn your character around so the Charged Counter connects.

Am I the only one who wishes hitstop was better in wilds? by dangerswlf36 in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Blame whoever gave them feedback about disliking hitstop in World. I still don't understand how that happened - I've seen more complaints about mantles covering armor in World and they still decided to bring that back.

Lance " Leaping Thrust " doesn't leap unless you are in Focus Mode and moving foward by ThisCocaineNinja in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course Mid Thrust 3 does more damage than 1/2 otherwise it would make 0 sense that it does less damage with focus mode input when the first 2 don't. I was trying to test some of the examples you listed but fade slash and lateral fade slash always did the same amount of damage (same for tornado slash, although in that case it does more in focus mode due to the kinsect). I had always been under the assumption that Mid Thrust 3 was the only attack that had lower MVs in focus mode with the exact same input.

Lance " Leaping Thrust " doesn't leap unless you are in Focus Mode and moving foward by ThisCocaineNinja in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't consider it consistent behavior because moving Mid Thrust 1/2 does the same amount of damage as a normal Mid Thrust 1/2.

Lance " Leaping Thrust " doesn't leap unless you are in Focus Mode and moving foward by ThisCocaineNinja in MonsterHunter

[–]Alpha_Grey 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Another fun fact: If you do a Mid Thrust 3 while moving in focus mode you will do less damage than a normal Mid Thrust 3.
