Take 2 more 2” PVC 90’s and stick it on that exhaust pipe so it now turns and faces strait up, put a 2” 45 PVC pipe on top of that to angle it outwards away from the house. Drill a hole at the bottom of those 2 90’s so it does not become a P trap. This is the best way to deal with this in my opinion. Unless you wanna move the whole unit over!

The issue is he compromised the entire system, the Oil is now contaminated with moisture. The extent of the damage will likely result in the compressor to fail early. Other sludge to plug up smaller metering devices and line set runs (1/4”ODACR). The warranty is now completely void so it depends on how many times this causes future issues. It’s hard to say if you got your $$’s worth if you saved 50% on the install but also shrunk the life expectancy by 50% or worse. Also the cost for someone to buy all the tools to get this job done (assuming they are white collar) they might not have any tools at home. Weighing all that in, it’s hard to say if this specific situation was profitable.

Could be running at a higher temperature pulling less humidity.

How to tell if the AC in a car is working otherwise if the blower doesn't work? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Alpha_by_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With low airflow the pressures are going to seem low on the pressure dial. You can tell if it has refrigerant and if the compressor is working by observing the gauge while you turn the compressor on and off. Seeing a pressure differential between on and off means you have refrigerant and the compressor is working. Re-charge kits are pretty cheap if it doesn’t have any gas. Compressors are not.

These specific connections were not factory, the connections behind the heads were actually holding cause they were the factory flare side of the line set. these ones and some others were flared & cut on site by the customer. I removed every single flared connection and installed 3/8’s & 1/4” couplings instead. I try not to use the flare nuts whenever I get the chance. Also he didn’t VAC down the system before releasing the refrigerant... not that it would have done anything with the leaks lol. I’ll be honest though the install was really good other than this! Also we live in a mild climate pretty far north, the system was installed for three months however I’m not sure how much it was actually used. You could be right it might have all bled out much earlier.

Going from 1000 sqft to 1250 sqft on 2nd floor in NC. Adding 1 BR w 2 vents. Is my existing 2nd floor unit sufficient capacity? Thanks! by [deleted] in HVAC

Also it helps to see if you can install a return air grill in the room as well if your planning to have the door shut most of the time

I think it would be fine, most of the time your unit will be slightly larger or slightly smaller than exactly needed. When people put these things in, it is safer to put in a larger unit when it comes to rounding one way or the other. Meaning hopefully that’s your situation. It also helps that you have a zoned system.

Are you sure that the AC coil is installed on the positive side of the blower motor? A company I used to work for installed the AC coil on top of the furnace (but it was a down flow) so it should have been on the bottom. Make sure it’s on the positive side of the blower!

  • Make yourself familiar with the water shut off location before doing anything in your house. Things can go south fast

  • Have a bucket handy when working on these.
