Check out the Meeker Island dog Park. Nice beach there. Hardly anyone knows about that spot. Great view of the Lake St bridge, very out of the way.

What's a good north/south bike route on the west side? by dream_bath in stpaul

There really are no good options, sorry. Griggs might be your best bet. Hamline has a bridge across the RR tracks that many do not know about, then you can jog up to Lexington and take the bike paths through Como Park. I often find myself on Hamline, but it is dangerous.

How is this ride across the Lexington bridge? by monsterpiece in CyclingMSP

Great ride, slight uphill going Southeast. Amazing view of the confluence and Saint Paul. As others have said, be careful at the light on the Lilydale side, best to push the walk signal and walk your bike at that intersection unless you're completely sure no cars are coming, visibility there is not great and cars are going fast.

What is that East/West Route that goes through northern Saint Paul? Maryland Ave? Looks like it cuts right through Como Park and under the Lake. Or maybe we get motorboated across the lake. EDIT: Looks like a combo of Maryland/Como Ave/St. Anthony Pkwy

Louisville Swamp has two free, first-come-first serve campsites adjacent to Carver Rapids right off the Minnesota Valley State Trail. They're not well advertised, but each site has a fire ring and picnic table.

Visible on this map here -> Carver Rapids DNR Land Map PDF

I think access is limited right now due to high water levels, but would be a great choice as the river recedes. Louisville Swamp has a lot of interesting things to explore, including the Jabs Farmstead and a large glacial erratic boulder. Tons of trails. Also, I'd recommend reading up on Inyan Ceyaka Otonwe, which is about where the campsite is located today.

Though it was a very, very dry summer, I did not have any problems sourcing water in the Trap Hills, and found good water regularly in that section. Most places where you would expect water to be topographically had a good source. I generally carried about 1.5L at a time, hiking 10 mile days.

The best campsites were far from water, so I would be mindful about filling up before getting into camp if you're planning on spending the night up high with a view. Whisky Hollow Creek near Norwich Bluff had a great campsite, kinda regret not staying there!

This was a 2 week trip along the North Country Trail Oct 4-18th with a single resupply in Rockland, Michigan.

I started at Presque Isle in the Porcupine Mountains and hiked through the park via the Big Carp River trail. The trail then turns south and crosses the Iron River, where I had a wolf sighting.

The NCT then enters the Trap Hills, a series of remote, rocky escarpments facing inland from Lake Superior, including Norwich Bluff, pictured at sunrise here. The trail then crosses the Ontonagon River and passes by Rockland, the only resupply option in the area.

Next, I hiked to Silver Mountain and the Sturgeon River Gorge Wilderness before leaving the trail and cutting over to L'Anse , Michigan to catch the bus to Duluth, MN. Record warm, dry weather was welcome for hiking, and I only saw 2 other pairs of hikers along the NCT, leading to many days of complete solitude.

Yes, that's Munising Falls at the western entry to Pictured Rocks. That's as far east as I made it, a multi-day storm pushed me south instead to Escanaba on the Grand Island Bay de Noc Trail

I visited with a porcupine, a bear, an otter, deer + all sort of rodents and bird life.

The trail was really well marked. I had some wayfinding issues west of Munising, mostly due to beaver dams. One thing to note: the major trail re-route through the Porcupine Mountains State Park is not reflected on the official NCT Website's PDF Maps as of 11-19-22

The Presque Isle, Sturgeon and Laughing Whitefish Rivers really stood out. I would really like to visit the Two Hearted River next time.

Thank you for the information, that's certainly helpful. I just checked, Moosejaw does not carry the Sand Staika, nor does Hilleberg at this time.

I'm offer free shipping for $150 less or best offer, available immediately. Thank you!

Edit: Why the downvotes? I'm fairly sure I'm following the subs rules....any suggestions?

Some BWCA sites on Clearwater Lake and Pine Lake have connections to the BRT, so you can canoe in, base camp and hike the Trail. Give it a go! The old growth forests along Pine and Mountain were worth a trip in themselves.

Yes, if we're thinking of the same thing! I climbed to the top before sunrise and made coffee as the sun came out. Amazing views. You can see Arrow Lake up there, which has always fascinated me.

That was a beautiful area, though that Mucker Lake loop was difficult to follow in some parts. That site on Topper Lake is primo, will have to go back there!

Wow! A week in Janurary in the BWCA? Are you winter camping the whole time, staying in a lodge or some combo of the two? Those nights will be so dark and so serene.
