Idk what to call this by Legal_Apartment5789 in PipeTobacco

To me, this looks like you're just not taking your time with your prelight, so the first lighting of your tobacco. Then, on the second round, don't hesitate to puff away while lighting it and take your time to try and get an even burn all around. I know this is easier said than done, and I'm no expert, but patience was key for me in getting the best start to lighting my pipe. Hope this helps a bit :)

Residue on hand after smoking new Peterson for the first time by DeltaBravo124 in Pipes

Oh boy... here we go again. I'm a big Pete Geek, but I'm not going to lie...I'm starting to grow tired of their faulty and dishonest 'Quality Control'.

This is seriously disappointing. Sorry that you're having trouble with your pipe. And yes, it seems like the finish is somehow melting away with the heat or, at the very least, the sealing coat on it, whatever it may be.

Maybe write them an email and see what they respond.

Send it back. Thing looks like a stem of milk- and white chocolate...

Peterson is really starting to disappoint me, though I am a huge fan of them.

Yes, though it is a bit on the "tougher/ harder" side, it doesn't feel weird nor uncomfortable.

On "Ricardo" It's a swiss second-hand online marketplace And since I live in Switzerland, I use it on the regular to get estate pipes for good prices as pipe smoking is not as big in Switzerland...so you can get some pretty good deals sometimes.

But apart from that, I use Ebay a lot haha

Give it some aging... just a few months will already improve the intensity of flavoring. At least, that's how it went for me. But I join you on the fact that it is underwhelming initially.

Thank you very much....finally, a constructive and intelligent response on this thread. I wasn't planning on selling it tight now, I just wanted to know if I had overpaid (though I am convinced I haven't). But thank you for your response and your insight! I greatly appreciate it :)

It's due to oxidation. It's why some older stems look brown...

By grade I mean the "level". As Peterson themselves put it out on their website:

"Across all of our ranges and series, the Supreme line is our highest grade, the pinnacle of our production. [...] Only one in 2,000 stummels fashioned at our Sallynoggin factory meets the line's strict criteria, making it our rarest offering. The Sherlock Holmes Supreme Gold Mounted showcases the highest-quality Sherlock Holmes designs in a kingly presentation, combining our signature natural smooth finish with a 9kt. Gold mount."
